Book Description

January 2, 2009
Love Travel Guides are a complete departure from the traditional mass-market books. Love Travel guides present a curated selection of Indian experiences that have been chosen to help the traveller fall in love with India. These discerning guides celebrate the unique style and beauty of India. Love Delhi, one in Indian series of Love Travel Guides, details the most authentic experiences in Delhi and the surrounding region including Agra and Jaipur, Varanasi, Amritsar and Rishikesh. Primarily targeting international visitors to Delhi, the guide is designed for the discerning traveller who wants authenticity in style. The 152-page book, handmade in India, comprises eight sections including an overview of the city with 'must knows and must dos' and presents the best places to eat, drink, shop, and visit. It is based on the 'love stories' shared by locals; including chefs, artists, designers, architects, flower sellers and auto drivers. Love Delhi is printed on handmade paper and crafted with care by local designers and crafts people. The hand-woven silk covers were developed in partnership with Sonam Dubal the Delhi based fashion designer; and the hand-loom khadi trimmed with rani pink Mysore silk a that the books come in are by Sonali Sattar of Hidden Harmony. Fiona Caulfield, founder of Love Travel Guides, believes that falling in love with a city is just as exciting as falling in love with a person. Your senses become more engaged and you simply feel more alive, she says. The simplest criteria for inclusion in the guide was 'does this place help you fall in love with this city?' If yes, then it was in; if no then it was out. Simple. 10% of the profits go to charity.

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll be lost in Delhi WITHOUT this guide, November 16, 2011
This review is from: Love Delhi (Paperback)
I lived the last four years in New Delhi and was introduced early on to Love Delhi by my Delhiite friends. Not only is the natural-fiber bound book lovely to look at, the info inside is well-researched and current, right down to cell phone numbers given for reliable taxi and rickshaw in the middle of town. The book is neatly divided into sections, based on geography (which neighborhood) or interest. The guide is the closest thing to having a best friend living in the city--the kind of friend who has inside information about where to go, what to see, and how to do it with minimal aggravation. Caufield self-identifies as a luxury vagabond, and some of her ideas are extravagant (like balloon rides in Jaipur), but are also without fail the best Delhi and it's environs has to offer, including tips on how to see Old Delhi on foot, tips on which "wala" has the best food on the street, or which alleyway leads to a worthwhile treasure. I kept the book as a travel diary, checking off each category as I explored it and keeping notes in margins and in the folder in the back. (not sure if this edition has the folder feature.) It was helpful to have information sorted by neighborhood, in the event I got stuck in traffic in an unknown part of town, I could usually find a good restaurant or interesting gallery to pass time. I understand that Caufield keeps a staff in Delhi who regularly check info to make sure it's current. Highly recommend-this book was my personal tour guide.
