I felt compelled to write this, my first Amazon review, after seeing the lukewarm reception this great album got in places like Pitchfork and the AV Club. The album cover's sly nod to Roxy Music gives you a good idea of the fun approach the boys from Cobra Verde and Witch took making this record, and listening to this music is so much fun as to verge on being sinful. But this band isn't just a J.Mascius vanity project or a way for John P. to use rock therapy to purge the depression following his mother's death, it is an amazing rock and roll record with balls. Huge balls. Huge sweaty hairy ones. I can't express the joy in listening to a ballsy album that also has brains and soul to boot. These songs have hooks, but thanks to John, Tim, Dave & J., they also have heart. As you can see, these songs have captured mine....

I must admit that I bought this for the cover, having never heard the music. The cover was similar enough to Roxy Music's "Country Life" that I was intrigued to see it in the size of the vinyl jacket. Still like Roxy's better, but the music is listenable. Nothing has grabbed me enough to transfer it to the mp3 format but I haven't filed it in the archives yet either. For those unaware, and there probably aren't many of you reading this, it is hard rock-- -kind of a cross between Axe and Bachman Turner Overdrive.

If you are remotely interested in this I would purchase from another supplier, as there seems to be someone in Amazon's Shipping Department who does not care for the cover. The one I received (and returned) had a nice stab (like with a knife) through the cover and record. I know their Shipping Department can be atrocious ate times (like putting an $80 book in a box with no packing material), but this is the pits.
