4.0 out of 5 stars Considered a Bible... December 16, 2002
Format:Paperback
This particular "Melody Book" (other Melody books cover other "facets" of stones... like color pictures, application of stones, etc.), is about as comprehensive a book as one could hope for, regarding the metaphysical properties of particular crystals and stones. It's very rare that you'll find a type of stone (no matter how obscure) that isn't listed here.

My only beef with it is that stones are more individualized with what they're suited for, than Melody would have you believe. (For instance, all of a certain kind of amethysts aren't suited for exactly the same thing, and the same goes true for all of any kind of stone...

Still, it is pretty much "the encyclopedia". (I'd also highly recommend, "Stone Empowerment", by Jane Hightower... Not as comprehensive, in terms of covering "all the stones", but it has practical info (including cautions) that simply doesn't exist in the Melody books.

This book has MANY things going for it.

the author discusses various types of crysyals (clusters, dendric, gateway, generator, manifestation, obelisk, etc).

Then goes on to other sections (acquiring, dedication, cleansing, awakening, charging, programming, meditation, protection, making elixirs, etc).

Then the larger portion of the book is used to list the properties of hundreds of different kinds or stones. The author even goes so far to list the astrological sign, and which number the stones are associated with.

This book is an incredible resource for information about crystals; but I have three little nitpicks.

1. The Author lists the use of salt water to cleanse your crystals on page 54. I do not recommend this method because salt is a corrosive agent, and repeated cleansing in salt water could break down the lattice structure of crystals.

I DO recommend cleansing stones by the following methods.

a. smudging them in the smoke of a purifying herb or incense.

b. placing the crystals in sunlight.

c. burrying them in the ground so the negative energies can be transmuted.

2. I wish the author had listed the hardness of the assorted stones. This way you could use assorted stones of similar hardness so they did not damage one another. It would not be wise to carry a peice of Clear Quartz in a pocket with a peice of Moldavite. Moldavite is only 5.5 on the hardness scale where Quartz is a 7.0, Boji stones are 7.4. Ruby is 9, and Diamond is 10.

3. This book with 700+ pages is quite difficult to hold and read. So I would recommend that you read about the first 100 pages that discusses the assorted types of crystals, programming crystals, cleansing crystals, etc; then set the book on the shelf and use it as a reference guide when you want to find the properties of the assorted crystals as you acquire them.

Aloha nui loa (I love you very much)

5.0 out of 5 stars A to Z of Crystals February 6, 2004
Format:Paperback
This marvellous reference work tells you everything about the metaphysical properties and use of crystals.

The chapter Configurations describes the shapes and structures of the mineral kingdom, from the Ankh to the Window Crystal. There are chapters on Numerical Vibrations, Master Numbers and Preparatory Methodology, which serve as guides for those who wish to speed up their progress on the spiritual path. The last mentioned chapter deals with acquiring, dedicating, cleansing, awakening, charging and programming your crystals.

The chapter Practical Applications provides information on crystal meditation, protection, elixirs and how to treat food, plants, your car and your aura with crystals. The chapter Additional Definitions serves as a glossary of terms, from Akashic Records to Yin-Yang.

The main body of the book consists of an alphabetical list of crystals and their properties, from Acanthite to Zunyite. Here the appearance of the stone and its metaphysical and healing qualities are discussed. Astrological correspondences and numbers are also provided.

The book has a beautiful cover painting, Crystals Of Life, by Charley Berryhill and concludes with a thorough index. It is a very useful and extensive guide to crystals. My only complaint is the lack of photographs or illustrations that would facilitate the identification of individual stones.
