Surprising that only one person so far has reviewed We Love Ella! This is not your usual boring tribute to a sublime talent. There was not a false note. The arrangements were superb. One might complain that there could have been more performance footage of Ella, but some of the numbers might have been cut and that would have been too bad. Except for Nancy Wilson -- who wisely modified her performance to Ella's simpler style -- We Love Ella! featured mostly young performers with great pipes really making things swing! Biggest surprise of the night: Wynonna Judd's sexy, show-stopping rendition of "Ain't Misbehavin'" And Liz Wright was surely channeling Ella direct from the Pearly Gates!

The production quality of the 2007 tribute to Ella Fitzgerald is a testament to the landmark career of this legendary artist. As hosts, Natalie Cole and Quincy Jones provided a credible perspective on the historical and artistic aspects of Ella's contribution to 20th century music (in America and around the world) as well as on today's artists. The guest performers (new, seasoned, well-known, and obscure) exemplified the variety of Ella's style, and their performances were far byond "passable" ... each gave their very best. In particular, the highlights for me included: (1) "Cry Me A River" ... Ella's 1975 vocal track overlayed with a 2007 orchestral arrangement, and (2) "Someone To Watch Over Me" ... presented by the incomparable Nancy Wilson. "We Love You, Ella" is a treasure for fans of classic jazz, swing, be-bop, ballads and "The First Lady of Song."

If you are a fan of Ella and the songs she sang, this video will make you smile for days. It has some terrific performances by a variety of singers. Of note are the performances by Ledisi, Liz Wright and the beautiful Monica Mancini. The band is the USC Jazz Orchestra. Those kids are having the experience of a lifetime to play for and with some of those great artists. You can't go wrong putting this DVD in your player.

Why does Amazon.com's product information for this superb concert, filmed in 2007, list the year 1972 as the year of the concert? This is misleading and must be discouraging to potential buyers of the DVD.

This concert tribute to Ella Fitzgerald was co-hosted in Southern California by Natalie Cole and Quincy Jones and features Patty Austin, Monica Mancini, John Faddis, Stevie Wonder and Ledisi among others. It is as good as it gets and the DVD is a must have for lovers of classic jazz. I own many of Ella's albums on CD and two much older concerts on video. This DVD is interspersed with video clips of older concerts but the tribute concert itself is recent.

Audio and video quality are both excellent and this is one to add to a jazz DVD collection. You'll enjoy this for years to come.

This compilation of selections from the PBS-TV special features artists young and old honoring the "First Lady of Song", Ms. Ella Fitzgerald. There isn't a weak performance in the bunch from the powerhouse performance by Ledisi to the "deep" singing by Lizz Wright and the "classic" Nancy Wilson every performance is excellent! One caveat: there are performances on the video which do not appear on the CD version and vice versa. However, given the excellent prices available for each version, I highly encourage obtaining both versions. You won't be disappointed!

It isn't often that you see a tribute to a remarkable artist, such as Ella Fitzgerald, done in an absolutely amazing way! From start to finish this tribute was food for the soul. The program included such artists as Natalie Cole, Patti Austin, Take Six and others, who were simply outstanding. However, I believe that all of the planets lined in one row for soul singer Ledisi, whose stellar rendition of, "Blues in the Night" blew the lid right off of the theater! Watch out for this lady! She is going places!

I am a young 66 year old male. This is the BEST 1 1/2 hours of television I have ever watched in my entire life. Natalie Cole was always Nat King Cole`s Daughter to me. Now she is a super star in the Class with her Father. WHAT ARRANGEMENTS. I have never heard better.

I love Ella Fitzgerald! She was an original and a trail blazer! This tribute puts together some of the best talent in the world, including Natalie Cole and George Duke. Quincy Jones hosts this wonderful love fest for a wonderful lady. Miss Lady Blue Skies. Miss Ella.
