3.0 out of 5 stars Master Composer does it again!, June 26, 2000

I have most of Mr. Goldsmith's other available CD's in my collection, and while "Love Field" is not his best work, it still proves to be an enjoyable, if low key, listening experience. This is one of those scores that works a little better in the actual film than by itself as a CD recording. Once again Mr. Goldsmith does a wonderful job capturing the feel of the film's setting (1960's) with a simple, jazzy, "hometown" main piano theme. He does and equally accurate job capturing the moments of tension surrounding JFK's assassination with some brooding and tense underscore, and a pretty riveting action cue. The main theme you will find worked throughout the score, receiving a few trademark Goldsmith variations (i.e. flute and strings). The movie itself is more of a love story with the time period and JFK's assassination serving as a mere backdrop to the developing romance between the film's main characters. If you like his other stuff, there is no reason you won't like this particular score. It does have a little something for all Goldsmith fans. If you are like me and prefer his more grandios and thematic works, then you might want to save this one for another time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely, understated score, April 15, 2001

I admit, I've never even seen the film, but as a Goldsmith fan, I snatched up this CD. It is a lovely score. It is such a nice departure from Goldsmith's epic scores (which I love too, of course.) If you have only heard scores like "Alien" or "Star Trek", this soundtrack will come as a surprise. A pleasant one, I assume. It is a lovely, sparse, gentle score. With a touch of jazz, quiet and delicate at times. A real gem.
