Sierra Jensen has spent the past four years working for a missions group in Brazil, when she finds out that the program she's working on is going to be discontinued. Before she starts her next position, her friend and translator, Mariana, offers to bring her along on a trip to Hawaii. Sierra hopes the trip will give her a chance to make some decisions about her future--what the mission has planned next for her isn't exactly what she's passionate about. Mariana wants to party, meet guys, and just have some fun on vacation.

Jordan Bryce in on assignment in Hawaii to photograph the surfing competition on the North Shore. He and his friend Derek hope that this time in Hawaii will further their careers in photography and surfing, respectively. An accident back home delays Derek's arrival to Hawaii, while a storm traps Sierra and Jordan together. Jordan is convinced that this could be his big break, and no girl, especially one who lives in Brazil, is going to distract him.

While Sierra makes major life decisions and Jordan captures the eye of a potentially lucrative sponsor, God has even more in store for them...and their friends!

Having grown up with Sierra and her peculiar treasures of friends, Christy Miller and Katie Weldon, it was fun to `catch up' with Sierra after she left Rancho Corona University. One of my favorite things about Robin Jones Gunn's books is how characters from other series pop up from time to time, and Sierra and Jordan will be making another appearance in Cottage by the Sea, a book about Jordan's mother, releasing summer 2012.

I like the softer, more mature Sierra that she has become.

Fans of Sierra Jensen will love catching up with an old friend in this novel. Four years have passed since readers last saw the fiery blond with a heart for God. When Sierra's job in Brazil ends, she finds herself at a loss at what do next. When her friend offers her a trip to Sunset Beach, Hawaii, Sierra knows it's a gift from God. She'll have time to catch up with her sister and to figure out God's plan for her life next. When she keeps running into Jordan, a photographer with his own career plans, Sierra must decide whether to return to Brazil and take the job offered or follow her heart and Jordan back to the states.

I read the Sierra Jensen series back in high school and felt the series ended before Sierra's story did. I was thrilled when Robin Jones Gunn wrote this book, telling the next phase of Sierra's life. However, one book didn't do justice to this amazing character. Most of the book felt rushed, and several times I wished there had been more reflection on an event (like Sierra's work in Brazil ,her conversations with Tawni, or even Sierra's thoughts on seeing Paul married) than was given. The events of this book could have been told with more depth in a two or three book series.

Overall, I enjoyed catching up with a character I consider an old friend.

Disappointed isn't quite the right word, but I definitely expected more from this book. I've read every RJG novel, and I've come to know and love her storytelling; however, this one just didn't quite hit the mark. I feel like the general storyline would have been fine, but the writing was a little redundant and the dialogue was stilted. It was also frequently redundant. :)

I would highly recommend any of her other novels, including her YA fiction, but this one gets a "meh" from me.

I've read numerous books by Robin Jones Gunn in the past, and some I've enjoyed very much, including several of her series. Unfortunately, that didn't hold true with this offering. Granted, I've never read her YA books, so I was not familiar with Sierra Jensen's character. This book reads like a YA novel, and I can see where fans of this character could enjoy the story. In that regard, the pace of the romance was good since both Sierra and Jordan are trying to figure out who they are and what they want from their careers, and where a relationship might fit into the mix. It's more the quality of the writing that disturbed me. Over and over, we're told instead of shown. I lost track of how many times the book said, "Sierra realized..." There are too many passages of prose without dialogue. If not the author, the editor should have caught such rookie mistakes that were disappointing from someone of Ms. Gunn's calibre and many published books to her credit. The content surprised me some, as well, especially from this particular line of books since Sierra and Jordan stayed one night in the same place (through no fault of their own, but as a result of circumstances nearly identical to another Love Finds You book!), and then Jordan stayed under the same roof as Sierra and her hard-partying roommate. The spiritual content was good and appropriate to the characters and their circumstances, but overall, this book was a disappointment.

Adventurous, independent Sierra Jensen suddenly finds herself at a crossroads in her life. She's spent the last four years doing ministry in Brazil. When her work comes to an abrupt end, she doesn't know what to do next. Accepting the offer of a week in Hawaii with her friend, Sierra hopes to seek God and find out where life's going to take her next. Jordan Bryce is an upcoming professional photographer sent to Hawaii to capture photos of the surfing competition. He's seeking to start making a name for himself and finds himself captivated by the lovely Sierra. When a series of "God-things" keep throwing the two of them together, they both question if this is God's will. Will they be willing to take a chance on love or will they go their separate ways?

I was so thrilled to pick up this story about Sierra. I've watched her grow up through Robin's books. I've always felt that Sierra's story wasn't finished and kept hoping that one day Robin would write more to Sierra's story. I got my wish with Love Finds You in Sunset Beach. Please be aware that spoilers will follow.

It was such a delight to come back into Sierra's world. Like most fans who grew up with Christy Miller and Sierra Jensen, I wanted to know answers to some very important questions. Did Sierra ever end up with Paul? Is she still the free-spirit that she was as a teenager? And is her heart for God as big as it was in her teens? Yes my questions were answered. There was finally a chance for closure with her relationship with Paul. I admit that I loved Jordan. He's not like most heroes. He's quirky and funny and has his faults. Yet he's a man that seeks God with all of his heart. And I loved him with Sierra.
