I always have a hard time putting her books down until I'm done!
She does a great job with her descriptions of the area plus a good story line.

Sierra Jensen has spent the past four years working for a missions group in Brazil, when she finds out that the program she's working on is going to be discontinued. Before she starts her next position, her friend and translator, Mariana, offers to bring her along on a trip to Hawaii. Sierra hopes the trip will give her a chance to make some decisions about her future--what the mission has planned next for her isn't exactly what she's passionate about. Mariana wants to party, meet guys, and just have some fun on vacation.

Jordan Bryce in on assignment in Hawaii to photograph the surfing competition on the North Shore. He and his friend Derek hope that this time in Hawaii will further their careers in photography and surfing, respectively. An accident back home delays Derek's arrival to Hawaii, while a storm traps Sierra and Jordan together. Jordan is convinced that this could be his big break, and no girl, especially one who lives in Brazil, is going to distract him.

While Sierra makes major life decisions and Jordan captures the eye of a potentially lucrative sponsor, God has even more in store for them...and their friends!

Having grown up with Sierra and her peculiar treasures of friends, Christy Miller and Katie Weldon, it was fun to `catch up' with Sierra after she left Rancho Corona University. One of my favorite things about Robin Jones Gunn's books is how characters from other series pop up from time to time, and Sierra and Jordan will be making another appearance in Cottage by the Sea, a book about Jordan's mother, releasing summer 2012.

I like the softer, more mature Sierra that she has become.

Fans of Sierra Jensen will love catching up with an old friend in this novel. Four years have passed since readers last saw the fiery blond with a heart for God. When Sierra's job in Brazil ends, she finds herself at a loss at what do next. When her friend offers her a trip to Sunset Beach, Hawaii, Sierra knows it's a gift from God. She'll have time to catch up with her sister and to figure out God's plan for her life next. When she keeps running into Jordan, a photographer with his own career plans, Sierra must decide whether to return to Brazil and take the job offered or follow her heart and Jordan back to the states.

I read the Sierra Jensen series back in high school and felt the series ended before Sierra's story did. I was thrilled when Robin Jones Gunn wrote this book, telling the next phase of Sierra's life. However, one book didn't do justice to this amazing character. Most of the book felt rushed, and several times I wished there had been more reflection on an event (like Sierra's work in Brazil ,her conversations with Tawni, or even Sierra's thoughts on seeing Paul married) than was given. The events of this book could have been told with more depth in a two or three book series.

Overall, I enjoyed catching up with a character I consider an old friend.

Which leads me to my second recommendation Love Finds You in Sunset Beach, written by dear-to-my-heart Robin Jones Gunn. I need to put in a little plug for the Love Finds You series, it's a wonderful line written by a multitude of authors. Each book takes place in a different real town. They range from hilarious to edge-of-your-seat suspense. All are worth reading.

This book was like sitting down to tea with a best friend. Those of us who were fans of Robin's YA Sierra Jensen series did flips when it was announced that Sierra's story would finally be told! Four years have passed since we last saw our free-spirited Sierra when she left college to work at a mission in Brazil. Us fans were left asking: whatever happened to Sierra.

Robin has this writer super-power of making her characters so lifelike that you forget they are fictional and start thinking of them as real people who you know and care about. I found this to remain true in Love Finds You in Sunset Beach with Sierra and Jordan.

We find that Sierra's time in Brazil has matured her, she's still the Sierra we love, but she won't be jotting off split-second hate mail like she once did as a teen. When her position in Brazil comes to an end Sierra must decide if she will stay with the mission for a new task or if it's time to move on and do something else. She struggles with belonging. She has never felt like she fit in Brazil, yet she's been away from home so long she doesn't know if that's where she should be either.

When the opportunity to take a trip to Hawaii presents itself, Sierra takes the vacation as a chance to relax and figure out what God wants her to do next.

Disappointed isn't quite the right word, but I definitely expected more from this book. I've read every RJG novel, and I've come to know and love her storytelling; however, this one just didn't quite hit the mark. I feel like the general storyline would have been fine, but the writing was a little redundant and the dialogue was stilted. It was also frequently redundant. :)

I would highly recommend any of her other novels, including her YA fiction, but this one gets a "meh" from me.
