Take a vacation trip to Poetry,
This review is from: Love Finds You in Poetry, Texas (Paperback)
I am an avid Christian fiction reader, but never much in the romance genre. "Love Finds You in Poetry, Texas" was a complete treat. What a lovely, lively, often rollicking good story of creative marriage matches (and mismatches). It caused me to reflect on the "knowing" of love that cannot be explained to another person, and the blessings of integrity which flow in relationships. The author's weave of engaging characters and poetry is loaded with rhyme and reason that will satisfy to the last page. I previously read and loved Janice's historical novel "Hurricane," and this one joins as a new favorite. Can't wait for what she writes next.

LOVE. THIS. BOOK.,
This review is from: Love Finds You in Poetry, Texas (Paperback)
This is an amazing book! I would love to see it made into a movie. The whole time I was reading this book, I was laughing. The characters in this book are so funny! I loved them all. The way Janice paired them all off was genius. She really showed how God's plan isn't always our own, and when that happens we need to be joyful and realize that God has something better for us than we had for ourselves. I don't normally like poetry, but in this book it is very down to earth. The poetry isn't so deep that I can't understand it. (I'll admit it... I don't get deep poetry. Don't like the stuff at all.) Love Finds You in Poetry, Texas is an excellent book that I think anyone will enjoy.

Loved it!,
This review is from: Love Finds You in Poetry, Texas (Love Finds YouTM) (Kindle Edition)
I started yesterday and FORCED myself to put down last night so I could get to bed at a decent hour. *G* Just finished it a few minutes ago. Really enjoyable read! Sweet, and often humorous, illustration of just how big a mess we can make when we get ahead of the Lord, and how He cleans up those messes. Belinda is a wonderful character! Highly recommend this book!

Awful, awful writing,

This review is from: Love Finds You in Poetry, Texas (Paperback)
Well this was just amazingly terrible writing, storytelling, plotting and characterization. This is supposed to take place in early 20th century Texas - a time when Galveston and San Antonio were the largest cities, not Houston and Dallas as this writer seems to think. The main character, Belinda, is a 28 year old woman from whom you would expect mature, rational behavior. Instead she acts like a silly 12 year old, constantly "clapping her hand over her mouth" or "sprinting down the road" (and she does both of those things A LOT!). She is a silly, unlikable, overgrown child and you really don't care about her one little bit. This awful characterization makes the story itself completely pointless. I have read several so-called "Christian" books with some pretty silly plots and some fairly nonsensical stories, but they usually had something redeeming about them. This had nothing at all. Look, just because someone claims to write "Christian" fiction doesn't mean it has to be published. I'm sure there is better out there. Do yourself a favor and give this "writer" a skip.

Poetic. Romantic. Humorous. Just some of the MANY ways that I would describe this fantastic addition to both the Love Finds You series AND Janice Hanna's amazing, God filled novels. They are all absolutely fantastic and with Poetry, Texas' charming, lovable characters, I was instantly pulled into the story and swept away by the stanzas of the story. An absolutely wonderful feeling. I loved being taken back to the early 1900's , seeing the sweet town of Poetry come to life, with all the shops and people. Janice Hanna has definitely got some masterful talents!
In Love Finds You in Poetry, Texas, we meet Belinda Bauer. Bless her sweet heart, she was so cute and sweet, and tried so hard to make everyone happy with her "marriage broker" business, but, well, it seemed that not all of the marriages were matches made in heaven. Especially when she was trying to match up her long time best friend, Georg Kaufman. Now THAT was fun to read about! It really had me laughing and smiling through the entire book. Seems that each bride that came for him....well, simply put, God had other plans for that man's life. And, poor Belinda, she just didn't know what to do when the brides would choose different husbands than the ones she matched them with! It was so fun to read the end results....well, you'll just have to read it for yourself, because I don't want to give away any spoilers! If you're new to the Love Finds You series, please start with this one. It's got all the elements of a wonderful book: humor, romance, great characters, captivating plot line, God's love and so much more. Janice Hanna has taken a mail-order bride plot and mixed it with a mismatching twist to give her faithful fans a 5 star novel that is sure to win every readers heart! AWESOME job, Janice!

I enjoyed this book. It was a very pleasant read with no characters to dislike. The romance between the hero and heroine was far too drawn out is why I didn't give it 5-stars. That is my only complaint with this book, however.

Charming Christian Historical Romance,

This review is from: Love Finds You in Poetry, Texas (Paperback)
Janice Hanna's "Love Finds You in Poetry, Texas" is a touching romance novel set in the west at a time when the men greatly outnumbered the women and one way to rectify the imbalance was to send for a mail-order bride. In this charming story, Belinda Bauer is playing matchmaker. She wants to find a bride for her friend, Georg Kaufman, the town barber, but the bride she sends for falls for someone else. She tries to match up others as well - some work out, some are horribly mismatched. But will Belinda come to regret sending for a second bride for her best friend when she finally realizes that she is in love with him?
I adore Janice Hanna's writing! Her contribution to the "Love Finds You..." series is entertaining and inspiring. That said, I must admit that her more modern Texas love stories (the Weddings by Bella series penned as Janice Thompson) are my favorites. Hanna's humor seems to be more conducive to contemporary plotlines. Still, I would highly recommend this novel for entertaining, wholesome Christian reading with a historical perspective.

Poetry in prose,

This review is from: Love Finds You in Poetry, Texas (Paperback)
Poetry is an interesting method of communication. It was amazing and good writing in my opinion to find poetry woven not only through out the prose of this story, but also into the metaphors and descriptions of a Christian life. God is the ultimate poet if only we would listen for the next stanza of our lives before jumping on our own. This book contained a great matchmaking and mis-matchmaking love story for the inhabitants of the town of Poetry, Texas and Janice Hanna was also able to weave historical elements of famous poets through out. As my first experience with a Love Finds You novel I was entirely pleased and look forward to reading more of them in the future. The love between the main characters was palpable and described very well in a realistic manner of friendship and assumptions. I love the writing of Janice Hanna aka Janice Thompson, and cannot wait for more both historical and contemporary. |
