5.0 out of 5 stars An insightful look at Amish culture and small town Ohio, July 18, 2010
By
This review is from: Love Finds You in Sugarcreek, Ohio (Paperback)
All novels inspire questions. You will definitely ask yourself this one: Could this really be Serena B. Miller's first published novel? The characters in this novel are so vividly drawn, the plot so engaging, the inspirational message so well integrated into the story, that even readers who don't usually pick up a novel described that way will find this one engaging and thought provoking. I look forward to more books by this author. This is a gem of a debut.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful combination of love, friendship and God!, February 19, 2011
This review is from: Love Finds You in Sugarcreek, Ohio (Paperback)
Double bonus for me with this novel! First, it's a WONDERFUL addition to the Love Finds You collection, AND it's a GREATtastic Amish novel! It's not your ordinary Amish story....I know,I know. I've said that about other Amish novels and that's true for them, as well, in their own way. This one, though, is a really sweet novel written by an amazing talented lady. Serena B. Miller has a fan for LIFE now!

Set in Sugarcreek, Ohio, Miller takes us on a whirlwind of a ride as we meet Rachel Troyer, a half-Amish woman who is super close with her Amish aunts and protects them, along with their town by being a cop. Things are going good for her and her aunts. That is until Miller introduces us to Joe Matthews and his sweet, adorable, lovable little son, Bobby. I fell in love with that little boy instantly! Not to mention that his dad was a good character for the story, too.

The plot line of Joe Matthews having a mysterious past and moving into the cabin and then the daadi house at Rachel's aunts' Inn was fantastic. Rachel's cautious and protective character really came into view when Joe arrived! But, can she trust him enough around her aunts? And why is he so secretive? Rachel really went into her role when she was running his prints and searching him out!

I absolutely loved the combination of learning to let go of the past, being open and honest, and trusting in God to protect everyone. Miller mixed those up with just the right amount of friendship and love amongst Englishers and Amish, and added just a bit of lightness to the story with sweet Bobby. THAT is what makes up an incredible, heart capturing novel!

So, yes, I highly recommend this book to your already growing collection of Love Finds You novels, or if you don't collect those, I still recommend it for your growing collection of Amish novels! It's a more than 5 star worthy novel that will pull you in, settle you down and make you feel right at home in the midst of a wonderful little town called Sugarcreek! Well done, Serena B. Miller!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fact, fiction and memories, August 26, 2010
This review is from: Love Finds You in Sugarcreek, Ohio (Paperback)
I spent a lot of time in Sugarcreek years ago. This novel put me right back there! I enjoyed the reminders of things I'd forgotten about such as attending the annual Swiss Festival (I thought the fire house had Apple Fritters!). The Amish center of the story warmed my heart. A plot and interesting characters were all great. Recommend to all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent example of what a labor of love an author's first book often is., February 8, 2011
This review is from: Love Finds You in Sugarcreek, Ohio (Paperback)
Love Finds You In Sugarcreek,Ohio is a wonderful Inspirational Amish Fiction story. Living near the largest Amish community in America,I have read many fiction and non-fiction books about the Amish because I find their culture interesting.

This book gives some great insights into that culture. It was also a very engaging story with a great mystery element,as well. This is one of those 'can't put down books' that is a thrill to read.

I believe that most author's first books are a labor of love, and are generally wonderful,if the talent is truly there, and this book shows that this author most certainly has the talent. I can't wait to be treated to more stories by her,and wish her great success.

For those that enjoy 'Amish-themed' stories with a touch of romance, characters you will love and a mystery,as well, this book will be a treat for you.

I couldn't believe that 10 min. had passed before I realized my husband had started the car and we were on the road again. I just fell into the book on the first page. Grandkids in the back seat didn't even get my attention. (Does that make me a bad grandma?)

Very good story I love reading about the Amish way of life. You would never believe that this was her first book. In fact, I enjoyed it so much I bought a copy for a girlfriend's birthday. (She enjoyed it too!)

If you just want to get away from it all and enjoy an afternoon of "chillin" this is the book to pick up.

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome book!, January 10, 2011
This review is from: Love Finds You in Sugarcreek, Ohio (Paperback)

Rachel Troyer, lives in the middle of Amish country. She is not Amish, but is related to many of the Amish, her father having left the faith. After she orphaned at eleven years old, three of her Amish aunts had raised her. Now grown and a police officer in the small town of Sugarcreek Ohio, , Rachel's goal is to take care of her elderly aunts. Problem is, they are not cooperating with her plan. They run an Inn, bed and breakfast style place and do not understand why Rachel insists they stop taking in guests.
After an accident leaves Aunt Bertha injured, Rachel insists no more guests, and they agree with the provision that they are allowed to help anyone they feel they need to help. They are strong believers in the verse about helping "angels" unaware.
Enter the angels, well not literal angels but a young man and his little boy, who desperately seem to need the help of the aunts. They allow him to stay in one of the cabins, much to Rachel's disapproval, and he makes himself of so much use, they ask him to stay on and work for them.
Rachel is upset, something is not right with this man, and she intends to get to the bottom of it. Her investigation turns up nothing and at the urging of others she finds herself liking "Joe" and his son Bobby. When she finally figures out who Joe really is, she knows her world is going to be turned upside down, and to make matters worse she has fallen hard for Joe.
This was one of my absolute favorite books I have ever read. I love the Love Finds You series and to combine it with an Amish story was like the frosting on a cake. Delicious!! 347 pages $12.99 US 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Finds You in Sugarcreek Ohio, December 20, 2011
This was my first book by Serena Miller and it certainly won't be my last. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and loved how it wasn't your typical Amish book. I especially loved how the murder of Grace was solved with a twist, I didn't see it coming.
