5.0 out of 5 stars Dionne at her best!
Having enjoyed Dionne's music since I was a kid growing up in the 60's and 70's I have heard nearly all of her albums and this I feel is the best album of her long and distinguished career. This album shows a different side to Dionne. While she is perhaps best know as a ballad singer-this album only has 2 ballads out of ten songs and both of them are stark intimate...

3.0 out of 5 stars Love At First Sight
There is no doubt that Dionne Warwick has a magnificent voice. From the 1960s to today, her smooth R&B vocals have remained a factor on the airwaves of both AM and FM radio. From Warner Brothers Records, the 1977 release of Love At First Sight is no less a wonderful portrayal of the power of those vocals. Though it did not yield any significant hits, Love At First Sight...

5.0 out of 5 stars Dionne at her best!, July 16, 2000

Having enjoyed Dionne's music since I was a kid growing up in the 60's and 70's I have heard nearly all of her albums and this I feel is the best album of her long and distinguished career. This album shows a different side to Dionne. While she is perhaps best know as a ballad singer-this album only has 2 ballads out of ten songs and both of them are stark intimate ballads nothing like the big, bombastic overblown ballads she later did on Arista. Granted she did some great stuff on Arista but she did some really great stuff in the mid 70's on Warner Brothers that was sadly overlooked. This album is so refreshing-Dionne sounds like she had a great time making this record. The opening cut "Keepin' My Head Above Water" is one of the catchiest-one of the most irresistable songs I have ever heard Dionne sing. "A Long Way To Go" is a very inspiring song with great lyrics and Dionne really letting loose with a great chorus and a little gospel overtones. "Do I Have To Cry" is a pretty ballad and "Don't Ever Take Your Love Away" is downright hypnotic. This song was written by Issac Hayes who later wrote "Deja Vu" which was a hit for Dionne. "One Thing On My Mind" is another high energy song as well as the cut "Early Morning Strangers"-a song written by Barry Manilow(who recorded it 2 years earlier himself. It is a great lyric about the downfalls of "one night stands". "Livin'It Up Is Starting To Get Me Down" is another interesting song about living the "high life" and then comes the stunning ballad-"Since You Stayed Here". This is just Dionne and a piano and it is simply lovely. Then just when you think the energy level has dropped down-the album closes with the title cut "Do You Believe In Love At First Sight" -the most high energy song on the CD-this song is impossible to sit still to. Producers Steve Barri and Michael Omartian did a great job on this album-never have you heard Dionne sound so rejuvenated. She must have been in a particularly happy mood when she recorded this because her spirit shines through on the whole album. Ray Parker Jr(Ghostbusters) plays guitar on this album to give you some idea of the great musicians that play on it. Dionne made several other great albums on Warner Brothers including "Track Of The Cat" and "Then Came You"-hopefully these also will see the light of day on CD. But until then, buy this CD and hear Dionne is a bright uptempo setting and prepare to enjoy it. This CD is a gem from start to finish. I have hundreds of CD's and albums but this would have to be in my top ten favorites. I've had the album since it came out in 1977 and loved it from the first time I heard it. When I saw that it was available from Amazon on CD, I ordered it immediately. The sound quality is excellent-even outshining the LP.

The ballad "Since You Stayed Here" alone is worth the price of this CD. It is just Dionne & a piano. This recording was made 2 years before she joined Arista. So she is in very fine voice throughout. I love the 2 marvellous color photos as well. The sound is audiophile-quality. You'll use this CD to test your system & impress your friends!

Highly recommended!

I was so happy to see the release of the recordings Dionne Warwick did while at Warner Brothers.
Without Bacharach and David, Warwick discovered a wonderful contemporary arena of music to lend her pipes to.
70's soul was made for her. Unfortunately, she did not get the support or promotion from the label.
I think everyone underestimates the quality of the work done at WB.
I think its the funkiest, and most soulful music she ever recorded.
NOW, if we can only convince Arista to release ALL her work at that label.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hidden Treasure !, November 10, 2000
This review is from: Love at First Sight (Audio CD)
Our learned reviewer Thomas Lay hits the beauty and importance of this album right on target. Dionne is lengendary for ballads but this album is somewhat quaint and different. It delivers you to a different state of listening pleasure that will invoke semblances of country pop, MOR and emotive sentimentals. This album challenges the listener to categorise its genre and will actually remain quite happy just being appreciated for its expansive celebrative musical arrangements and tune instead. Dionne introduced this album to the Brazilian audience way back in the early 70's and made quite an impact on Fantasia (not the Disney movie), their national variety show then. Not that they did not already know her but this album brought her closer to rank and qualifies her as one of the very few unique singers in English that was so dearly embraced by the population there. Any wonder why Dionne made the "Aquarela Do Brasil" album and currently resides in???-->make a wild guess. The musical style is unbelievably timeless and very very "happy" and you won't even suspect it was recorded during the 70s. Well, looks like it's not just Madonna who can kick retro. If you love Dionne like most diehard fans do, you will also be most delighted and amazed with the album cover pictorial of how our casual pony tailed girl turned Miranda in stark ocean blue floral on the back. Wow....si si (x7)...she looks verrr...y nice! Go for a real treasured find and buy the album..strictly no regrets...you can always say that with all Dionne's album..especially the hidden ones.

I just adore Dionne Warwick and was thrilled to find this, and several other of her albums re-released on import. Risking my bank manager having an apoplectic attack, I ordered them all and this one was the first to arrive. I was not disappointed and I can't imagine any Dionne fan being so when they buy this. It's very indicative of the time, but hasn't become twee with age. One of my very favourite songs is "Since you stayed here" and her version is just the best. Very simple, plaintive and with lyrics to die for. Perfection is CD shaped! If only "Track of the Cat" & No night so long" were re-released on CD, I would be a very happy fan.

Hard to find in most venues, this one song is worth the price alone.
