WE'VE BEEN WAITING 10 YEARS...AND WE GET THIS?!,

This review is from: Love Fury (Audio CD)
I think it would be beneficial if people who posted reviews would actually listen to the album first instead of reprinting from press releases or relying on snippets they've heard on the Internet. It pains me to have to write this review since I'm such a fan of this group, but this is the WORST Lime album that's ever been released. The CD clocks in at over 73 minutes, but this is one album you actually wish were much much shorter. Gone are the groundbreaking arrangements and that trademark Lime "sound". Instead, you get very poorly executed disco, truly horrendous productions, song lengths that go on beyond the point of no return, and an overabundance of the word "baby" (even beyond the usual Lime standards). Also, Denyse LePage is nowhere to be found on this album. Denis is handling almost all the lead male vocals, and there's a slew of "guest vocalists" and rappers (yuck!) to supposedly make up for this. The album starts off well with the first four tracks offering a good example of standard Lime synths and melodies. "No Other Love (I Need It Bad)" is a great mix of hot Lime disco with some Latin keyboards and some (thankfully) minor background rap. This is a truly energetic and lively song. You will be hitting the "repeat" button on this one! If only the rest of the album were as good as this track. The second song, "This Is My Life", is in the same vein but suffers from some very early-90's techno synth stabs. To refer to this track as "Trance" is misleading. The salsa-influenced "Don't Take It Bad" is followed by "Love Me (Don't Let Go)". Enjoy this song because it's the last good song on this album. The rest is lifeless and uninteresting filler that will seriously make you wonder what Mr. LePage has been up to during the past ten years. "Dance, Dance, Dance" is pure filler that sounds like it belongs on a children's album. "Takin The Night" starts off interestingly enough, but soon dissolves into fodder. "Making Love To Me" is a slow song with a painfully embarrassing Barry White-esque spoken word intro (the delivery will make you roll your eyes and cringe, trust me). "Francis & Francine" is a rap track that is completely out of place here, despite great instrumentation; its inclusion on this CD is nothing short of baffling...it should have been an instrumental at the very least. "Evil Eyes" and "Victim Of Love" are just bad disco, nothing funky or noteworthy about those two tracks. "I Don't Know" is a slow song that's beyond slow...it languishes. Finally the bonus tracks are a joke. The Underground Mix of "No Other Love" is a repetitive dub version that abruptly comes to a crashing halt just so a few bars of "Guilty" can be thrown in for whatever reason. The Hot Latino Mix is engaging enough but doesn't beat the original mix. The packaging is nice although I'm sorry to see that the cover art is no longer done by Studio Graffiti, the outfit that did all the previous covers. I'm sorry Mr. LePage foisted this garbage of an album on us, his longtime fans. Other than for one great track and a couple of good ones, the rest is trash. Hopefully, he'll do better next time.

Not Lime Enough,
By Joseph Brando (NJ, USA) - See all my reviews

I am a big fan of Lime, but even big fans of Lime have to admit that after the "Unexpected Lovers" album, the quality of the following albums declined. Lime's last release, 1991's "Caroline" seemed to be trying to keep up with the times rather than pioneering them. "Love Fury" seems to be suffering from the same problem. I would have loved to have heard some fresh new Hi-NRG tracks with Denis' low, gritty vocals and Denyse's high-pitched baby doll voice but anyone looking for these elements will be somewhat disapointed. Instead, we get some mid-tempo songs with "latin" and "hip-hop" sounds, plenty of guest vocals and rapping (ughh!) There is actually only one song on the entire CD that has Lime's trademark high-pitched vocals. That song is "This Is My Life" and it is excellent!! A truly rare Lime gem in the new millennium. I would say it is the best song from Lime since "Unexpected Lovers" and whoever made the decision to release "No Other Love" as the first single must have rocks in their heads!! - its not a bad song (except for the rapping in the middle) but nowhere near the high-energy euphoria of "This Is My Life". Other good tracks include "Taking The Night", which has high-pitched female vocals by someone other than Denyse (or whoever normally does the female vocals), and "Love Me", which is reminiscent of "Guilty", but again is blemished by some unnecessary rapping in the middle. The mostly vocal-free "Underground Mix" of "No Other Love", which is included on the CD is very cool and dance-able and includes a sample of Lime's classic anthem "Guilty" thrown in for good measure. The "Hot Latino Mix" of the same track is also interesting. The rest of the CD is pretty forgettable. I say, purchase it for the super "This Is My Life" and just think of the rest of the tracks as a bonus.

This LIME CD comes indeed after a long silence from Denis Le Page. It's hard to say whether this album was a good or bad idea. The first 3-4 tracks are really enjoyable and full of nice memories coming from the typical Lime's powerful and harmonious mixture. But unfortunately when it comes to the next tracks we feel such a disappointment. Moreover, tracks 5 to 12 are almost a cheap metamorphosis of beautiful Lime sound into a kind of awful DJ Bobo and Dieter Bohlen type. Maybe just like many others I bought this album while "unexpected lovers" and other magic songs where pumping in my ears. It's not fair to taint a really beautiful and original past discography by releasing such tracks (Victim of Love sounds like a Santana's copy)!

I really like a few tracks on this CD. Some are fantastic & others are just ok, i do not care for the raps that are in the beats of LIME. Some of the tracks do not belong on this album. i figure if you get at least 4 good tracks on a CD then you got your monies worth & i got about 7 tracks worth. Denis & Denyse Le page have gone under many many names for the group LIME. LIME, Le Page, Kat Mandu, Voggue (Denyse Le Page & Her Friend), Erotic Drum Band, Direct Input, Step By Step (Denis & Denyse Le page), Denis & Denyse Le page, Mother F, NINI No Bless, No Bless, Denis Le Page, Peter Batah, & Many Many More! I should know i have the biggest LIME collection in the world. LIME has always been a feel good band with many club circuit hits & as a DJ i have seen many a dance floor packed with LIME's disco beats. If you are a true LIME fan then you must check out the band No Bless (2 albums). It is Denis Lepage (LIME) solo & also check our NINI No Bless,.... are you ready for this? NINI NO Bless is Denis Lepage (LIME), YES that's Denis Le Page with the wig, fish nets, 6" heels & makeup to boot, full blown DRAG. The music is quite unique & features Denis' deep rough voice, A SUDDEN RISE is a FANTASTIC track on this album. There are a few other good tracks on A SUDDEN RISE CD as well. You can buy the MP3 tracks right here on Amazon. The audio clips Amazon gives are not enough to get into the songs though. Join NINI No Bless on My Space & check out the video of NINI No Bless (Denis Le Page) on You Tube, you won't beleive your eyes. LIME will always be one of my favorite dance groups of all time & i hope Denis & Denyse will keep us supplied with their unique vocals & sounds. Lime's back!,

Hey! It's a new Lime album in about 10 years. I only stumbled upon this by doing a search for music right here at Amazon.com! My mouth just hit the floor! Immediately and without hesitation I ordered this and the CD single! I wasn't disappointed at all! Never mind the first review of this album. Obviously styles do change and so much for the better. I'm not loving every track on this disc but hey - there's just so much going on! I'm a DJ and I had this album clocked out and ready to go for my first night with it at my club. It's gonna turn some heads for sure. Anyone that knows this group will be asking me I'm sure. The first 5 tracks are killer. I don't care if some folks think it's meaningless fodder - it's just hot dance music! Lime has always been a love it or hate it kind of group. Granted some albums are better than others - Lime 3 and Sensual Sensation come to mind but my all time favorite dance tune from them is "Do Your Time On The Planet" (Remix) - which isn't available on CD as of yet. Of course I always loved "Angel Eyes" and "Your Love" both original and 2000 remix. I've read somewhere that Chris Marsh and Joy Dorris were the visual aspects of this group and the touring partners, but now that I've heard this album it clearly states that Denis LePage is the main vocalist and I'm sure that Denyse LePage was the female vocal lead on the other albums. I could be wrong. They've toured in the 90's at several gay friendly clubs and I missed the chance to go see them several times. Maybe they'll tour again and I'll make sure to catch them this time. Now if only a video for the first single was in the works........I certainly hope so. This music deserves a wider audience and I'm gonna do my part to promote this at both my clubs!

Havin' a bad day,
By A Customer

Denis LePage must have been going through a bad patch when he put this album together. Since the last Lime album back in 1993, Denis' work has been uneven. The ill-fated Cherry Lime project was atrocious, whereas his work with Amithia ("Music Lover") in the mid-90's was superb. I agree with a previous reviewer that Mr. LePage is following musical trends this time around (what's up with the rap?) rather than making them. A couple of tracks are good but the standout is definitely "This Is My Life" because it's so typically Lime: the synths, the sweet melody, the male-female duet. It's not perfect, but it's as close as you're going to get to classic Lime. The rest of the album is, in my opinion, mostly throwaway. I'm afraid I don't see the comparisons between this release and previous Lime works (this is far from being 80's dance music) or even Bobby Orlando tracks. I'm sorry I wasted my money on this CD. I should have waited for the single release of "This Is My Life" instead.
