4.0 out of 5 stars Sexy woman - Nice voice
Well first of all she is extremely sexy. Her voice sounds pure and young, a lot like Shanice. I would love to see her work with some more r&b flavored producers because she definitely have a great voice. The cd has a pop feel to it. I was hoping for more R&B flava. I liked the songs Supernatural & Things that we all do for love (slow jam). She could go far with the right...

5.0 out of 5 stars "The Love for the Future" ,a funkdifed piece of work, August 14, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Love for the Future (Audio CD)
Ilove Nona Gaye and her one and only album that she released along with her track on The Artist formerly known as Prince's 1-800-Funk alblum. My favorite tunes from her one and only album are "only2cantell","supernatural","BREAKING AWAY",and of course,"I'm overjoyed".(Which sounds like asong Shanice would sing)However the downfall to this whole situation is the fact that Nona has not followed this album with another funkfilled project. This album was released in 1992 and it's now 1999 going into 2000! C'mon Nona we need another album. There are fans of yours that have been waiting 6 years for your return.Come back before you have to make a COMEBACK.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chip Off The Old Block!!!!!!!!!, June 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Love for the Future (Audio CD)
First and foremost,I'm very surprised that no one has reviewed this must have CD. I must admit when I first heard of Nona Gaye my initial response was"Oh GOD here is another child of a 'super-star' trying to cash in on a name".Fortunatly for me I took the time to listen to this CD.It was the "bomb",baby.I enjoyed her 1st release "I'm overjoyed".When I heard her 2nd release"The things we all do for love",I thought for sure that Mr. Marvin Gaye had been reincarnated with a soprano voice.I know that offsprings of famous entertainers hate to be compared to their parents, but Marvin Gaye passed on a lovely voice to his daughter Nona. She can definitly hold her own.My only disappointment is that I haven't heard anything else from this super-talented and beautiful young lady. Nona Gaye is an inspiration to up and coming future artists like myself, that class still matters in the music business. She has shown me that you can be sexy and classy all at the same time. Where are you Nona?Female R&B music misses you and so do I.This CD is a must have if you are at all a collector of the best R&B music. You can't have a serious R&B collection without Nona Gaye

4.0 out of 5 stars Good album - why all the negativity?, August 26, 2010
This review is from: Love for the Future (Audio CD)
When this album came out, Nona Gaye made it very clear that she was not trying to be like her father, and that she did not want people to compare the two when judging her as an artist. Though most critics soon became accepting of that, a lot of people seem to just not like this album no matter what, and I'm really not sure why, because this is definitely a competent effort that sounds as good as other similar releases from around the same time, maybe somewhat short on slow jams and the signature "message anthems" of her father, but certainly not so on hook-filled, groove-heavy neo-disco. Regardless of whether or not it matters to you that she's Marvin Gaye's daughter, you should check this album out, because it's some good listening, and that's how Nona wanted people to see it in the first place.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfection, April 22, 2003
This review is from: Love for the Future (Audio CD)
Only a true music lover can appreciate such high, octive vocal capability. A songstress indeed. Not only in lyrics, but in heart and in soul. "I'm overjoyed" The signiture to her debut. And "The things we all do for love", a smooth, melody cathing love song, clearly signifies Nona Gaye as a musical Maven. Being the daughter of Marvin Gaye, Nona comes on strong with this album from her musical roots and gifted performing skills. Each track on this album, upbeat or slow tempo, will fulfill all singers and songwriters intent.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love For All Time, December 13, 1999
This review is from: Love for the Future (Audio CD)
Though not all of the material is not exactly top notch, most of it is fairly good, & no matter what anyone thinks about highly respected entertainers' children, or physically beautiful women (of which Nona is both) forging a career in entertainment, the woman CAN sing. She does a particularly beautiful job on the two ballads, which shows she can put emotion into a track. I just wish I could contact Nona. Being a writer myself, I'd like to see what we could come up with in the studio together.

3.0 out of 5 stars overjoyed., July 30, 1999
This review is from: Love for the Future (Audio CD)
interest in nona gaye's 1992 recording debut may be reignited after her performance at the essence awards in 1999. the daughter of legendary soul singer marvin gaye, comparrisons are unavoidable. more than contemporaries natalie cole (who restablished herself as a formidable recording audience with three albums of covers from her father's era) and lalah hathway (daughter of famed roberta flack collaborator, donny hathaway, who has received critical acclaim in spite of poor sales), nona gaye establishes herself a unique identity by avoiding the sexually- and politically-charged music of her father. unfortunately, what's left is some pretty straight-forward r&b/pop fusion devoid of any real character. like tyler collins and, to some extent, cherelle, gaye has followed the middle of the road until it's taken her nowhere. in spite of assitance from keith crouch (who also worked with hathaway), the album's saving grace is derek bramble's "breaking away" which demonastrates that gaye is capable of emotional delivery and shows promise. hopefully, her recent appearance foreshadow's gaye's return to the studio and the release of a album that capitalizes on her potential.

3.0 out of 5 stars first love, July 31, 2002

I bought this cd for one song only, "The Things That We All Do For Love", because it was very sentimental for me. It was the only single I had ever heard from Nona Gaye, and was released my senior year in high school. The rest of the cd was nothing to rave about, but that song is one that will bring back memories of my first love for years to come.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good album, but needs more ballads, December 5, 2001
By
Rasheed Allen (Philadelphia, PA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Love for the Future (Audio CD)
I listened to the album and the best songs are , "things we all do for love", "when you were mine", "breaking away", "love for the future". The uptempo songs are good, but i think the album needed more ballads. I feel that she has a very strong voice shown on "breaking away" and "things we all do for love". I was instantly a fan when i heard her first song "i'm overjoyed". I was dissapointed that she did not follow up with another album, and it has been a while since she has done any music, even though i hear that there is an album in the works right now. I feel the lack in this album is with the production, maybe she should explore a more diverse group of producers that can take her music to new areas, which has worked for many artists (for example , aaliyah when she started off with rkelly, then timbaland, than took her sound to the next level on her final album-before she was tragically killed). I feel, once again that she has a nice voice, with the potential to do some great things in the r&b world, but i feel she should look to more diverse group of producers and songwriters (for example: rkelly, babyface)

1.0 out of 5 stars she ain't her daddy, February 5, 2000
This review is from: Love for the Future (Audio CD)
aside from I'm Overjoyed this is a really lame disc.the reason why she never came back is because she can't sing.i bought the 1 800 new funk thing with her&Prince doing Love Sign and it was Forgettable. Her Father is one of My All-Time Favorite Artists Ever.but she at best is a 3rd tier Shanice(who gets no Love anymore) or Tyler Collins who is a Question Mark now in her own Career.lightweight pop.
