Their best Album yet,
By
This review is from: For The Love Of The Game (Audio CD)
Honestly, I've never been a huge Pillar fan. I liked a number of songs off of their previous albums, but there were so many tracks that just didn't appeal to me at all, like they were underproduced or just filler songs. I went to the Pillar website a little while back and they mentioned that they believed this would be their best CD yet, and in the past they had written songs just to fill out the CD. When I first looked at the case and saw there were only 10 tracks, I was a bit disappointed, but I figured as long as they were all good songs it was totally worth it. After all, its rare that I find a CD with that many good tracks on it. This CD makes it sound like it was effortless. Every song is great, there isn't one song that I consistently skip. I can see people complaining about it because perhaps there is a lack of variety, but honestly, its different enough for me and this is exactly the style of music I love. If you liked Skillet's Comatose album (whose previous albums I didn't care much for also), I'm willing to bet that you'll like this CD as well.

The Return Of The Hard Rock Anthem,
This review is from: For The Love Of The Game (Audio CD)
With so many rock bands out there trying to come up with the next anthem tune, it's nice to see that Pillar has returned to their anthemic ways with "For The Love Of The Game." This time around, Pillar is rocking harder and heavier and still manage to squeeze in some melodic tunes. Unlike their two previous albums, the late 80's/early 90's metal and hard rock influences bleed through. I can hear a little bit of Def Leppard and a whole lotta Skid Row (especially in "Reckless Youth," which borders on plagiarism). There are plenty of songs to shout to that beckon one to remember tunes like "Frontline." Some of the highlights of this album include the title track, "Get Back," "Turn It Up" and the wonderful "Smiling Down." My personal favorite tune is "State of Emergency."
Hard rock fans will rejoice with this album and its sound so rooted in hair metal and hard rock. This is not only an uplifting album, but a great album to relieve stress to. Highly recommended to anybody who loves great hard rock, nu metal, and hair metal.

Not bad...,

A decent album, albeit a little on the short side. Some good tracks, but it feels like it could have used another few months of writing and producing.

Back and better Then Ever!,

My boys are back and ready to give you 9 anthems and 1 slow song that will make you cry. Most people didn't like the reckoning, I did, but it was missing the WDWGFH anthems, this cd has returned to give it to you hard, and this cd is the closest to dc talk's Jesus Freak with a bold message but could reach to Christians and Non due to the music. This cd will help bring you back to God, if your not a Christian and want to rock hard, you will still love this cd, Pillar is what the name means, HARD and Cannot be moved easily.

Love Pillar but Too Many Mellow Songs!,
This review is from: For The Love Of The Game (Audio CD)
I love Pillar, it's virtually the only thing I listen to while lifting in the gym, but there aren't enough songs on this album like "Bring Me Down", "Crossfire", "Echelon", etc... several are great "For the Love of the Game" is one of them.
Will most likely put the best hard songs on this album on a playlist with all of their other bests, "Fireproof", "Bring Me Down", "Epedimic", etc.. Jesus is Lord!!! and Pillar makes that known LOUD AND CLEAR!!!!!

Item arrived in promised time and undamaged. Excellent music that glorifies God and provokes thought and prayer, while permitting the listener to bang their head freely.

A Triumphant Return,

This CD from Pillar is their third best, following WDWGFH and Confessions. This CD has one of my favorite Christian ballads of all time, Smiling Down, which is the reason why I purchased this record over two years ago. Along with that, we also have some hard rockers such as For the Love of the Game, Turn it Up (which pays homage to Christian bands and their songs), and The Runaway, and it all adds up nicely to make a fantastic album.

From the title track, "For The Love Of The Game" jumps out at any true Pillar fan. The sound is a bit more rough-cut than other Pillar albums, making it unique. It presents a call to those willing to stand for Christ, the unafraid and unashamed, to remain so. "Reckless Youth", one of my favorite tracks, gives a new view of the younger generation: unafraid to stand for Christ, not concerned about stereotypes, but devoted and sold out to the callings on their lives. Then there's "Throwdown", a personal challenge to the forces of darkness, going toe to toe with your demons. Continuing in the fight theme, Pillar unleashes "Get Back" an admonishment to Christians on the ropes that we must continue the fight of faith, and "get back on the strings". Pillar also presents a call to the fearful with "The Runaway", a loaded track that admonishes staying in the presence of God. If you're looking for a more mellow side to the album, there's always "Smiling Down", a song that reminds that God and our loved ones who have gone to be with him are forever smiling down on us, even when we want to compromise or give up. It is certainly worth a listen or two.

The Truth Stays Strong as Pillar Rocks On!!!!,
By Vincent Kania "Vince" (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews

A must have for any Pillar fan, every song is amazing, there are no fillars, don't listen to any other review telling you otherwise, if you don't get this album you will regret it! (Despite that, the best ones are For the Love of the Game, Reckless Youth, State of Emergency, and Smiling Down, in case you're interested.) Amazing hard rock with everything there and above all a lifting and inspiring message in every song as Pillar continues to fight for the truth in Christ. You can not pass this one up!

This has to be one of the best CD's I have purchased in a while. I think the music on here is very uplifting and still has that rock ability to it.
I go to church with Pillar and it is amazing to know them as Christian people too. They are by far one of my most favorite Alternative Christian music groups, and I would recommend this to people of all ages! |
