1.0 out of 5 stars Twilight Zone episodes for people with graduate degrees, October 6, 2009
By
I love some of the other things I have read by this justly celebrated Argentine author, but these stories are just awful - a real disappointment. It shows what can happen when a writer settles into a sedate groove, and the questions he explores begin to become less interesting. The mystery and boldness of his other works are not present here. Instead we have descriptions of mundane little things - cats and bourgeois couples for example - that have little in the way of fire or brilliance, and seem instead like pretentious intellectual exercises, second rate Twilight Zone episodes for people with graduate degrees. I know that I am being a little harsh here, but I really did not like it. Check out some other things by Cortazar instead, like "Blow Up and Other Stories", for example.
