5.0 out of 5 stars Intelligent, Romantic and Beautiful!, August 19, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Love Is Good (Audio CD)
WOW! I bought this CD a few weeks ago and I can't stop listening to it! Christine Andreas' voice really got to my head (and heart) when I first heard her singing on the recording of The Scarlet Pimpernel. The first time I heard her sing "When I Look At You" I had to stop what I was doing and just sat still listening to it. I was very glad to find out that she had released a CD of her solo recording. I bought this CD, Love Is Good, as soon as I could, and I must say that listening to it has given me so much pleasure. This CD is a gem. It's good from the beginning to the end. I have to admit, though, that I don't care much for tracks 3 and 4 ("On A Clear Day" and "Harry's Dream"). Although they are beautifully sung, I find them to be a distraction. When I skip these two tracks, I find that I enjoy the CD even more. This CD has got to be one of the best ever. The songs and the singing are romantic and beautiful; the lyrics are intelligent. My most favorite songs on this CD are "And So It Goes" and "Love Don't Need A Reason". They are so hauntingly beautiful that they make my heart ache whenever I listen to them. Not far behind are the songs "Fly Me To The Moon", "Song of Bernadette", "Love Is Good" and "Cover Me". This is a perfect CD for grown-ups who appreciate beautiful singing and intelligent and romantic songs. If you appreciate good music, buy this CD as soon as you can. You won't be disappointed. I can't wait for future releases from Christine Andreas. I hope that the wait won't be too long, for my heart is achingly longing for more of Christine's beautiful voice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Broadway Veteran at Home on Solo Recording, May 2, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Love Is Good (Audio CD)
It has been generally agreed upon that Christine Andreas is among the finest of theatrical performers in the theater today. She is a uniquely talented vocalist, endowed with a buttery vibrato and soaring soprano. Her interpretation of classic roles -- namely Laurey in "Oklahoma" and Eliza in "My Fair Lady" -- demonstrates a capability and depth lacking in far too many performers. She brought whimsy and an irresistible French accent to the "The Scarlet Pimpernel" in which she created the role of Marguerite to the delight of cheering audiences. She proves on this recording that she is equally at home in the recording studio as she is on the Broadway stage. Andreas breathes new life into such time-honored songs as "Fly Me To The Moon" and "Some Enchanted Evening." Her most emotional moments on this recording are found in the Peter Allen song "Love Don't Need a Reason" and in Billy Joel's "And So It Goes." This is hopefully only the first in what should promise to be a collection of exceptional solo albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Is Good, Andreas Is Best, December 4, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Love Is Good (Audio CD)
Christine Andreas, with her debut solo album, sets a new standard for the best in romantic music. Appropriately recorded at Angel Studio, the album has a heavenly quality rarely attained in non-live performances. She gives standard songs new life and offers a generous helping of songs rarely heard, including several written by Martin Silvestri, who is also the source of the exquisite arrangements. She not only has an exquisitely beautiful instrument, Christine Andreas has an uncanny ability to fill every song with the heart of the singer, to reach out to the listener touching a quiet place in you and filling it with light. Joining her on several songs is Joel Higgins, writer/actor/singer, who also wrote the eloquent and haunting Harry's Dreams, one of the highlights of the album. This album has every quality a collection of songs should have, warmth, beauty, joy, hearttouching feeling, and an openness that few singers are capable of achieving. This one's a keeper--buy two because you'll wear it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars What A Voice!, December 31, 2000

I saw this young lady in "The Scarlet Pimpernel" on Broadway and, quite frankly, her voice just knocked me out. At intermission, I went to the lobby and bought this CD sight unseen. I have enjoyed it and played it so much, that my two daughters, who returned to N.Y. and saw "Pimpernel" again, waited for her outside the theatre and got her to autograph it. "Fly Me to the Moon", "Love is Good", "All My Tomorrows" and the beautiful "Storybook", from "Pimpernel" - there isn't a bad song in the album. I firmly believe that if I play this album with the window open, birds would come to our sill looking to mate. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a voice!, May 24, 2000

This review is from: Love Is Good (Audio CD)
I am not the connoisseur of Cabaret singers that many people are, but the first time I heard Christine Andreas--in the show On Your Toes--I was knocked out by her voice. I have since followed her career with interest, and bought this CD when it was released. I find I still play it all the time. To my taste, the best tracks are those with the simplest accompaniment--I've been told that the cut "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever" has gotten the most notice, but my very favorite is the final track, "And so it goes" in which she sings to just a piano. There's something about Ms. Andreas' voice that is so immediate and personal--again, I'm not an expert, but to me the effect is someone singing very simply and beautifully, without artiface.

One mark of this CD's longevity is that my friends who have a copy all have different favorite tracks. Anyway, I can't wait for her new one to come out!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Superb Debut Recording, April 30, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Love Is Good (Audio CD)
Christine Andreas, star of such Broadway classics as "My Fair Lady," "Oklahoma," and "On Your Toes," and, more recently, "The Scarlet Pimpernel" shines brightly on this, her debut solo album. Her voice is as rich and full as ever; it is showcased in a beautiful collection of songs -- some classics, some newer show music, and celebrated standards. Her "Fly Me To The Moon" is dreamy and serious at once. Her duet with Joel Higgins in a medley of "Some Enchanted Evening" and "Younger Than Springtime" is superb. Of course, Andreas cannot resist reprising her signature song from "Pimpernel;" she sings "Storybook" here, just as she did in the show, with whimsy, force, and an irresistible French translation. Her upcoming release, "The Best Is Yet To Come" will be a welcome follow-up to this sublime recording.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure class, April 12, 2002
This review is from: Love Is Good (Audio CD)
Christine Andreas is a consumate perfomer with a distinctive voice that, beside simply being gorgeous to listen to, conveys an amazing range of emotion and truth. My favorite tracks on the album have to be "Love Is Good", sung partly in impeccable French with a romantic and classy Parisian bistro feel, and "Pirate", which evokes the gothic romances of the 19th C. and the timeless story of love lost. If you get the chance to see Christine perform live (in ANYTHING) you owe it to yourself to go. If not, buy the album and consider yourself lucky that this absolute treasure finally recorded an album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heaven on a little round disc!, May 22, 2001

This CD is pure joy. As I have never heard of her in the UK, I found this lady quite by accident during one of my many trawls through the delights of Amazon. The snippets I heard just blew me away and I had to have this CD. I can't stop it from rotating on my CD player, I just love it. When my mother recently visited, she too commented. Each time we went out, I had to put it in the car CD player so we could sing along (you don't have to imagine that - it is as painful as it sounds!).......so I did what any loving son would do and bought her a copy for her birthday. Christine's voice is crystal clear and the orchestrations are just perfect - not too intrusive as some orchestra's can be. All I need now is a handsome man to waltz me off my feet to the strains of the best song on the CD - Storybook!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Voice, February 9, 2001

Simply put, one cannot purchase the CD "Love Is Good" without making an effort to go and see and hear for yourself Christine perform (cabaret performances). Christine sings from the heart, her voice is pure and clear, and every detail of each song is done with perfection. I recently went to one of her shows and Christine sang a number of songs from the CD. I honestly believe that the audience expectations of the show surpassed what they might of thought prior...in the end they might feel a little guilty that they didn't pay more for their tickets. For some reason when Christine sings "Storybook" (Note: Christine's website goes by the same name), my thoughts go back to high school (Suffern High School) and the school plays that she performed in. When Christine sings "Song of Bernadette," my thoughts go back to grade school (Sacred Heart, Suffern, New York)...again with Christine performing for her classmates, friends and families. Christine is blessed with a beautiful voice and now it's your turn to hear it.
