3.0 out of 5 stars a lot of good songs, but the sound quality suffers somewhat
Several years ago I managed to get this CD for cheap. I didn't imagine that it would eventually go for so much, so I'm certainly glad I DID get it back then! Anyway, I enjoy this CD; I've listened to it quite a bit. I think it does have a lot of good, catchy tunes. Tony Burrows' vocals sound very good to me, if not really great. However, the sound quality of this CD seems...

However, the sound quality of this CD seems inconsistent to me. The songs are supposedly digitally remastered, but over half of them (including the title hit), though they sound O.K., sound to me more like they were taken from old vinyl records. The others sound better to me, though. There are a few songs here that I don't care so much for, but I think most of them are really good, even if they (or most of them) are "bubblegum." If ALL of the tracks had SOUNDED like they were digitally remastered, I would have given this CD a higher rating. I honestly wouldn't recommend buying this CD for the prices that are being asked for it, especially not the REALLY high ones.

4.0 out of 5 stars The one man greatest hits compilation !, June 24, 2010
This review is from: Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes (Audio CD)
If you heard "easy listening" music in the 1960s and 1970s, chances are that Tony Burrows was the voice that you hearing. Being a "portable" vocalist, he performed as a solo artist and in numerous bands that were nearly all "one hit wonders". You put this CD on and take a relaxing, toe tapping, nostalgic walk down memory lane.

Yes, this is pop, yes, this is "fluff," but for what it is, it's very, very good.
Tony Burrows has a pleasing voice.
And all the groups and hits are represented: Edison Lighthouse (love the harmonies of "Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes"), First Class, White Plains, The Brotherhood of Man ("United We Stand" is outstanding), and The Pipkins ("Gimme Dat Ding," a great novelty number).
Kinda takes you back to a time when songs were fun.
Nice production, by the way.

If you like the song "Love grows" then this is one of the few places to get it on CD. I only found a couple of other songs in this colletion to be interesting, and I found the audio quality to rather poor for a CD. It made me wonder if perhaps they had just taken some vinyl albums and played the best tracks onto a tape to make this CD. Of course, it could also be that back in the 60's and 70's recording technologies were comparatively poor by today's standards, and this is the best there is for these old songs. You really ought to consider that if you are contemplating spending the $30 or more that this CD seems to be commanding. On the plus side, there are 6 pages of pictures and stories about some of the albums and songs that Burrows was involved in, which is interesting history.
