5.0 out of 5 stars Charming!
My mother-in-law gave this book to my son for Valentine's Day, and it is a delight! The watercolor illustrations are just terrific, and the bears who star in the story are so sweet and snuggly-looking, you'll (almost) wish for a product tie-in -- that's saying a lot! Even better, the prose describes the different ways we can show each other love. One of the lines...

2.0 out of 5 stars Really?

I purchased this book because I loved the bright watercolor illustrations (Vanessa Cabban does amazing work) and read it several times with great enthusiasm. Then I realized what I was reading. The...

Even better, the prose describes the different ways we can show each other love. One of the lines from the book (``Love is when somebody quietly listens to everything you've got to say.'') has served as a gentle reminder to me to be more patient with my son's constant chatter. I can't think of a more loving way to say goodnight to a child than reading this special book out loud.

I just love this book! I read this book almost daily to my daughter. We just love the sing-songy rhyme about love. It is a great bed-time story, giving children happy thoughts to go to bed with. Wonderful!

5.0 out of 5 stars heart warming, May 22, 2000

My one year old absolutely loves this book. It is one of the sweetest and most enjoyable stories I have read. The words just put you in a loving mood. I have read this so many times that I have memorized it. I have tried hiding the book, but she always manages to find it and crawls into my lap to hear it one more time. It is truly "a great bedtime story". I have decide to get another one so when she grows up, she can share it with her children.

2.0 out of 5 stars Really?, January 24, 2011
"and then when your stomachs are grumbly, love is unwrapping your treats. And love is stuffing them all in at once, leaving masses of mess on your cheeks."

I purchased this book because I loved the bright watercolor illustrations (Vanessa Cabban does amazing work) and read it several times with great enthusiasm. Then I realized what I was reading. The beginning and ending both offer strong reminders of what love should be for a child, but the whole middle is filler and trash. Love doesn't have anything to do with stuffing masses of mess into your face or butterflies tapping on your toes. The book trivializes the concept of love for young readers. I made several alterations in my copy and have since then been able to enjoy the book with my son (he loves the illustrations, especially the last two) but I would never purchase another book by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Beautiful!, September 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Love is a Handful of Honey (Hardcover)
We originally checked this book out of the library and loved it so much we had to buy it. The illustrations are warm, detailed and original while the story not only gets your preschooler thinking about savoring precious moments, I find it brings back fond memories of my childhood. Simply beautiful!

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful!!, October 8, 2009
By
This book is a beautiful depiction of love and a great way to describe it to a sweet child who finds joy in the simple things like tickles and skipping. The reviewer who didn't like it because they prefer the Bible's description of love is missing out. I believe this is how Jesus would describe love to a child...in amazing analogies like the Bible is full of. This book will be one of the few I make sure I save as a keepsake for my child.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love is a Handful of Honey, February 10, 2009
My mom bought this book for me when I went off to college. Even though I am not a young child, I still enjoyed the book because it had meaning to me. I enjoy how books like this can relate to children and adults. When I am a mom I want to read this book to my children before they go to sleep because it talks about how love is important and how you can love in all different kinds of ways.

5.0 out of 5 stars My son LOVES this!, September 16, 2008
This review is from: Love is a Handful of Honey (Hardcover)
We have to read this book (and two other short books*) to my 16 month old son every night. He loves the pictures of the Bears and at the end of the book he kisses them goodnight. We have tried reading other books but these are the only one's he will sit still and listen too.
