5.0 out of 5 stars "Love Has A Name" is a definite winner!
This album is absolutely a Christian pop-album and unfortunately Kathy might just take a little flach for that, as is evident in a 'not so nice' review of this album that's already been posted. That said, it is still an ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL, 'feel-good' mix of pop-music. Pop music gets a bad rap all too often and for no real reason. This intentional 'pop' album does...

2.0 out of 5 stars Glossy, shallow product
Kathy's latest effort follows the path of another usually strong Reunion Records artist--Michael W. Smith: put out a career-best album that artistically trumps just about everything else in the genre, then regress 10 or 15 years to a time where saying "Jesus" or "Father" a lot makes for a good record. It does not, and nowhere is this more evident that...

This intentional 'pop' album does exactly what I'm sure Kathy set out to do, it makes you feel good and at the same time reflect on your soul and your faith. Yes, you want to get up and dance and sing when you here "Parade". That's a good thing! Kathy's songwriting ranges from the complex and poetic to the very simple and endearing. That's Kathy, she can make even the simpliest idea for a song like "Break My Heart" become something lyrical and special: singing about all the wonderful things she has experienced in life, naming them all, but yet acknowledging how the hard times and pain are what has taught her the most, then welcoming God to "Break Her Heart". How lovely, simple and poetic. Also in answer to something that was said in the 'not so nice' review of this album that's posted: "Corner Of Eden" her last album was truly special and spectacular with grand songs, choirs, huge orchestrations and strings, etc. But how boring it would have been, and how 'not so special' would "Corner Of Eden" have become if Kathy just did the same album all over again. "Love" is a departure from "Eden" and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I'm not even a follower of Christian music and I've fallen in love with Kathy's music because of her voice and the truth behind her song writing. I've had a hard time keeping this CD in my own hands because so many people wanted to listen to it and then didn't want to give it back to me because they enjoyed it so much. That says it all!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome - Well Worth The Wait, October 30, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Love Has a Name (Audio CD)
I must admit that I have waited for original Christian music from KT with eager anticipation - this album did not disappoint! KT had a hand in writing 9 of the 10 songs on this album. Though she does have an amazing voice and talent for relating all types of musical styles, the words that have come directly from her heart, through song lyrics and speaking are what make her an amazing light for Christ in this life. This is so evident in the words of each of these songs. The music on this album will touch your heart, the words to each song as you listen will make it skip a beat. Each song has a different feel and a different message, but each will lift your heart and fill your soul.

The opening title, Parade, grabs you, makes you smile and practically makes you dance right out of your seat. "All Is Well" is a powerful lyric, a song filled with the thoughts and phrases we have all uttered on those despairing days - yet it reminds us to see the good, to see Him, even at the those times, and that, really, all is well. "On My Way To You" is a great funky song filled with what it's supposed to mean to be a Christian, and how I too pray I live my life while I'm on my way to you Lord. "Live For The Lord" is a song anyone who truly knows the Lord could easily use as an anthem for their heart. "Break My Heart", despite it's title, actually praises for the storms in our life from which we learn and grow and how to appreciate the beauty in all our other days. "God Said It" is a latin flavored ditty filled with God's own words - and I too Believe It! "Hold Me While I Sleep" is a tender song which expresses the way we all want our Father in Heaven to comfort and cradle us after a long trying day. "Count On Me" is a wonderfully light and fun song I want all my friends and loved ones to hear - it expresses who I am and how I feel about them always! "I Want To Know What Love Is" is a great version of a very popular song by the group Foreigner - it makes you hear and appreciate the song like you never have before. Finally, "Love Has A Name", the title track, is an awesome statement for what it would mean if we all realized what we are actually saying when we say "I Love You". Jesus died for us to show us His Love - can we say that same meaning is always behind the word "Love" when we say it? Love does have a name - it is Jesus - think of that when you say it. Awesome Job KT!! Thank You!!

5.0 out of 5 stars overflow of the heart, January 10, 2002
By
Linda A. Peterson (El Paso, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Love Has a Name (Audio CD)
I was not a fan when I purchased this CD- actually it was a gift for a contemporary christian music fanatic friend- but I wound up with 2 by mistake and gave it a try. I was so jazzed to listen to all of the songs over and over again. I kept waiting for the words to get stale...they didn't. I kept waiting to start flipping to other CD's in my player...I didn't. I kept waiting for my husband to complain about the same CD playing over and over...he didn't. My finger kept pushing play for over 2 months and this cd still feels fresh and new every time I hear it! The other night on the way home from a 2 hour drive my husband was singing the words and liking it! Kathy Troccoli's new CD grabs you and refuses to leave you where you are... but takes you so far away from what you know as safe and secure and predictable in music...and turns it all upside down so that you can't put to words how great it feels to listen to her music! Look, I'm not a conditioned fan with an opinion. I am an unfamiliar listener who was so wow'ed that I have to buy some more for the rest of my friends and I don't buy many friends music!! Look- after almost 3 months my heart continually overflows with a surge of love every time I hear this CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars All that AND a bag of chips, February 13, 2001

Kathy has done it again! Blasting off the stereo with an infectious new signature anthem in "Parade" to the salsa-esque "God Said It" to the endearing and deep feeling ballads "Hold Me While I Sleep" and "Break My Heart" this album gives K.T. fans and new comers plenty of vintage feel with a surprising dose of diversity in musical direction and vocal range. And to think this fine lady writes most of her own lyrics says volumes about a true "artist" and performer. And though I don't tend to like remakes, Kathy's version of "I Want To Know What Love Is" retains the integrity of the original with K.T.'s unique vocal signature. The rest of the tracks, especially the swanky, upbeat "Count On Me" round out one of the artist's best efforts to date. There's something here for everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great CD, January 17, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Love Has a Name (Audio CD)
I enjoy this album as it has a variety of different music styles on it. I agree with the other reviewer who felt Kathy might take flak because of it. However, it is an upbeat cd. It makes me smile, tap my foot, and I certainly enjoy listening to it at work. The music is easy to listen to and like from the very start.

I have found during my commute to my job, the music from this cd keeps playing itself around in my memory (which isn't a bad thing)!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshes my soul!, May 23, 2001
This review is from: Love Has a Name (Audio CD)
I really enjoy this CD. It has a "slightly more mature" sound, or perhaps it is her spirt), but certainly contemporary. It is clear that these songs come out of a heart that has been through some pain and has come out on the other side, and in the end says "All is well." I also like the refreshing view that Kathy portrays about going through hard times in the song "Break my heart." It basically says that if it takes hard times for you to break my heart, then go ahead, Break my heart. Helps one realize that "it's been in the rain that I have grown through all the sorry I have known..."

5.0 out of 5 stars Variety: the spice of life, February 20, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Love Has a Name (Audio CD)
Wow what an album! Pop--most definitely. A departure, yes--although Kathy has sung so many different flavors, it's hard to label one above the other as a departure! It's definitely different from the Corner of Eden album that was mentioned earlier, but then so was Love and Mercy, Sounds of Heaven, Sentimental Christmas.....I could go on. As for lyrical depth, I find every bit as much here as I do in all her previous work: incredible honesty, passion and insight. I have to admit this album took a little longer to creep "under my skin" than did the last three--probably because I really do like rich and mellow over pop. But different doesn't mean bad. Variety is the spice of life, and there's something for everyone here.

When I got the new recording, I find myself tapping along and feeling a Warm effect through-out the entire recording that I believe that Kathy was recording to any who listen. Sure, their are those who would say that this recording is a flop/dud. But this recording just proves to anyone with an open mind and heart that their is hope in this world, and that is really want I believe that Kathy really is sharing in the many different styles that the recording offers to us. Thanks Kathy for all of your talent!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kathy does it again!, July 26, 2004

I am a huge fan of Kathy Troccoli and have most of her albums. Yes, this one is different to the other albums but that does not make it a bad album. I feel that she has deviated from her usual style here but she has also discovered a whole new way of using her amazing writing talent and awesome voice,

The first song 'Parade' has a really upbeat tune and very profound words of worship lifting up the Name of the Lord in His majesty and holiness.

The second track 'All Is Well' is so typical of KT's humility in expressing her shortcomings but, at the same time, acknowledging that Jesus is Lord and, therefore, we know that 'all is well'.

'Break My Heart' has a very deep meaning to me because, during my thirty six years as a Christian, I have been through many valleys and it is only at these times that we know the awesome presence of God! Two years ago my second youngest daughter went to be with her Lord at the young age of thirty, leaving behing three young sons, a grieving husband, sisters, brother and parents. God taught me, during that time, that He does all things well and we can just rest in Him.

'God Said It' is a lovely, upbeat song and brings home the truth to us that we can believe it simply because 'God Said It'!

The title track 'Love Has A Name' completes this beautiful album and reminds us that God loved us so much that he came down from heaven to die for us and He requires, above all else, that we love one another.

If you are a Kathy Troccoli fan, please don't be put off with negative reviews on this album. Try it... you will love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars NICE SURPRISE, November 7, 2002

This was a very contemporary sounding album. A very nice surprise. From the very first song, it captured my attention. Throughout the whole album, I was constantly suprised at the sound of each song. This is a very diverse album. Nice pop songs and latin-flavored songs.

Highly recommended to contemporary Christian music listeners and those looking to start. Another recommendation: Amy Grant's late 70s/early 80s albums.
