5.0 out of 5 stars awesome!!!
I am not much of a commentator, but just gotta say that this cd is Awesome. I cannot get enough of it. Beautiful guitar whizz KERI KELLI smokes and inspires. Jani Lane has become one of my favorite singers because of this cd, all the guys come together beautifully. No let down here, great great stuff. This is Rock n Roll at it's best.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hair metal heaven, August 22, 2008
This review is from: Love the Sin Hate the Sinner (Audio CD)
2008's Love the Sin, Hate the Sinner (brilliant title!) is the debut release from Saints of the Underground, a side project of some of the "hair metal" scene's (mostly) minor players. The only band member who is reasonably well known is vocalist Jani Lane, formerly (currently?) of Warrant. The rest of the band is made up of drummer Bobby Blotzer (Ratt), bassist Chuck Wright (Giuffria/House of Lords), and journeyman guitarist Keri Kelli.

Love the Sin, Hate the Sinner sounds exactly like what you'd expect an album by a bunch of aging hair metallers (and I use this term with deepest affection) to sound like. It's upbeat, melodic in a way that only an 80's metal band can be, and rocks just like your old school Ratt or Warrant album would. Kelli serves up some great guitar riffs, the rhythm section keeps things pounding, and Jani Lane's voice is about as good as it has ever been. I know the guy has some personal issues, but they don't appear to be affecting his voice at all. Alongside upbeat melodic rockers like Dead Man's Shoes and Signs of Life is a pair of interesting covers. The first is a faithful rendition of Tom Petty's American Girl and the second is a surprisingly well executed version of the Rolling Stones' Moonlight Mile. The album closes with an uncredited song called Jimmy. There's nothing about this track in the liner notes, but it sounds an awful lot like a Thin Lizzy song, which is always a good thing.

If you still love listening to your old Warrant, Ratt, Poison and Motley Crue CDs, you'll definitely want to check out what the Saints of the Underground have to offer. Love the Sin, Hate the Sinner will have you partying like it's 1989.

Jani Lane, Bobby Blotzer, Kerri Kelli, and Robbie Crane have joined forces here and created a fun 70's influenced rock record with a modern pop metal twist. "Good Times" is one of the coolest songs I've heard this year. A must buy.

Warrant? Not really. This is a bit less edgy then dog eat dog but not much. This collection has a little of warrant's last three and equal amounts of it's own mid tempo arrangement. Very tight and well produced from the first song to the last. One repetitive song that was still musically strong enough to like. Not a lot to complain about. After hearing about Lane falling back off the wagon I was skeptical. After listening to it I'm left waiting anxiously for a follow up. I can only hope.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE THE SIN & THE SINNERS, June 2, 2008

I have not been able to quit listening to this disk if I do take it out it's not out for long. Jani sounds great his solo disk was great but this
disk blows it away and Keri's guitar sounds great as always(ck out the old Big Bang Babies)and Bobby and Robbie hold it down great. Bobby's drum
work on "American Girl" is amazing.I love "All in how you wear it" it will
make anybody that is an old "Glam Rocker" stand proud and "Jimmy" has such an old Warrant feel to it if you close your eyes you'd swear it came off of "Dirty Rotten Filthey Stinken Rich".Bottom line if you was into any of theses guys before you will love it so buy it and Love the Sin and Love the Music!

5.0 out of 5 stars SOTU, July 7, 2008
This review is from: Love the Sin Hate the Sinner (Audio CD)
One of the season's most noteworthy debuts will have you doing the "thank goodness for slick guitar riffs, smooth lyrics, and near-perfect delivery" head bang all summer long. Saints of the Underground's, "Love the Sin, Hate the Sinner" is a power-packed 10 track trip with rest stops featuring better than usual weighty grooves, hell of a ride hooks and impressive melodies.

"Love the Sin, Hate the Sinner" is the result of the flavorful combination that Jani Lane, Bobby Blotzer, Robbie Crane and Keri Kelli cooked up with a recipe destined for success. When you mix Lanes notoriety as Warrant's vocalist, coupled with Blotzer and Cranes Ratt history and Keri Kellis work with Alice Cooper you get an incomparable mix that works like an honors level chemistry lab experiment in the rock and roll hall of fame.

Vocally, Lane has never sounded better and the sound that is the amalgam of Blotzer, Crane and Kelli is a backdrop of musical perfection.

Notable tracks include are "Dead Man Shoes", "All In How You Wear It" and "Signs of Life".

Written and produced by Bobby, Keri and Lane, the cd was mixed with Andy Johns of Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin fame making the tracks do double time - giving the listener a new sound, a new kind of smooth, a sin you won't mind committing.

This is a decent surprise. The vocals could be better at times but overall it's pretty good. Has a great 80's vibe to it.
