4.0 out of 5 stars Finding Love
Dana Ellison is engaged to a man she can't stand and works on a job she loathes. So how did she end up in such a miserable state? Her overbearing parents. Her father has molded her in his own image. He retired a well- respected educator in the school system in which Dana now teaches. Her mother has single handedly picked her fiance and begins to plan Dana's wedding...

3.0 out of 5 stars The hero deserves a medal
Ok it took me a while to like the heroine in the story she came across as an immature wimp. However there are some parents that are so domineering that no matter how old you are they make your knees knock. The hero Chris, not college educated works with his hands, falls in love with a middle class teacher from a family of teachers. Having lived in her parents footsteps...

Dana Ellison is engaged to a man she can't stand and works on a job she loathes. So how did she end up in such a miserable state? Her overbearing parents. Her father has molded her in his own image. He retired a well- respected educator in the school system in which Dana now teaches. Her mother has single handedly picked her fiance and begins to plan Dana's wedding. Dana has always gone along with her parents' wishes without much of a fight. Until she meets landscaper Chris Johnson who shows interest in her, her dreams and what she wants out of life, he beleives in Dana when noone else does. Her family does not approve and a strain is placed on their relationship.

Cheris F. Hodges jumps right into the action of the story. Ms. Hodges provoked my emotions as I found myself wanting to defend Dana's right to be her own woman. Dana's conflict of being torn between the love of a man and her family played out nicely and kept my interest. The romantic scenes were hot, steamy and exciting. A LOVE OF HER OWN is a well chosen title, it describes the main characters struggle perfectly.

3.0 out of 5 stars The hero deserves a medal, July 25, 2008
Ok it took me a while to like the heroine in the story she came across as an immature wimp. However there are some parents that are so domineering that no matter how old you are they make your knees knock. The hero Chris, not college educated works with his hands, falls in love with a middle class teacher from a family of teachers. Having lived in her parents footsteps she decides to live her life for herself at 29 years old. She dumps her parents hand picked fiance Andre, quits her parents handpicked job and finds true love and the career of her dreams as a caterer. Nice story but I was more interested in the romance between the secondary characters, hope they have their own book.

This is my first book by this author,im glad i took a chance to try her book. Its an easy flow, relatible book and detailed scenes. The conflict with the main character's parents was fustrating and maddening because you felt the fustration that she faced, she was beating a dead horse talking with her parents,it became very easy to resent her parents for her while reading this book. The love scenes were hot and good, this book will keep you engaged!Very good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, May 6, 2009
This review is from: A Love Of Her Own (Indigo) (Paperback)
I just finished this book two days ago and I thought it was a great story. Dana Ellison never went against her parents desires even at the cost of her own....until she met and fell in love with Chris Johnson. Together they discovered what love is and what its like to truly have someone in your corner. Her parents were snobby and flat out refused to see Dana as a woman and not their little girl. I am glad Dana held her own with her parents and in the end she got what she wanted..."A Love of Her Own" Cheris Hodges is a great writer she always delivers a great story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Her Parent's Choice? or A Love of Her Own! (4.5 stars), June 19, 2007
By
Book Description: Dana Ellison's life is not her own. For 29 years, she has lived in her parents' image, ignoring her own dreams and desires. She finds herself trapped with a fiancé she doesn't love and a career she doesn't want. Then a stranger walks into her life and changes everything. Construction worker, Chris Johnson has had his fill of loving someone else's woman. But there was something about naďve and sexy Dana Ellison that made him put his heart on the line again. He opens her up to a new world and loses himself in hers. Will Dana be able to stand up to her demanding parents and fight for A Love of Her Own?

The story of Chris Johnson & Dana Ellison is about love (or attraction) at first sight; the idea of social status and acceptable social image; parents trying to relive their lives through their adult child; pleasing your parents by accepting their choices while relinquishing your dreams; and forgoing any chance of happiness at the expense of one's soul. It is also about an unselfish, giving love; trust and believing in yourself as well as the person you love; helping the person you care about to see just how special that person is, why happiness should be theirs; and helping each other grow as your relationship develops and flourishes - even in a disagreeable, sometimes hostile, environment. This story is about Dana Ellison finding a diamond (Chris Johnson) in its natural state and then finally recognizing the treasure she's found; as well her journey to becoming a grown, competent woman, capable of choosing and having A Love of Her Own.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Love of Her Own, October 17, 2005
Cheris, I thoroughly enjoyed the characters of Dana and Chris. Often, we get caught up in what a man does for a living or what his status is. The development of their relationship was kind of fast for the real world, but I think that Dana was at a point where she wanted to be her own person and just needed someone to encourage her. I was surprised that her mother was the first to come around to Chris, I didn't expect her father to be so opposed to Chris and their relationship. The lack of drama between Chris and Rosalyn and Dana was surprising, but appreciated. I would have liked a little more information on Josh and Zariah, but perhaps that will be in the next book.
