Wah has built her career on "spiritual" music for many years (what music ISN'T spiritual, we may ask?) I own several of her earlier CDs, and I have always liked her tendency toward reggae and calypso-inspired rhythms and accompaniments.

This album is great! My yoga instructor uses it in class and I just had to buy it for home too. It is so energizing and relaxing at the same time. Wah makes me happy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant CD, December 3, 2008

Wah's best CD to date. Terrific if you enjoy kirtan in a smooth jazz style; terrific also for light jazz lovers who'll be amazed what kirtan brings to jazz.

Wah has built her career on "spiritual" music for many years (what music ISN'T spiritual, we may ask?) I own several of her earlier CDs, and I have always liked her tendency toward reggae and calypso-inspired rhythms and accompaniments.

Music, I believe, is truly "spiritual" when it lives and breathes from within the human being from whom it flows and resonates within the listener. What music isn't spiritual? Well, in my opinion, music that is created by electronic drum and sampling technologies seems to lack the dynamic energy of music produced as the result of human contact with living, breathing musical instruments, and the true, electronically unaltered sound of the human voice.

I'm sorry to say that this CD, which is heavily electronic, does not seem to "breathe" at all. Rather, is is driven by repetitive electronic drum patterns and sampled instrumental sounds instead of real musical instruments played by real musicians. While this may cut down significantly on production costs, it also, I think, sacrifices much more in terms of musical integrity.

So, for a chant/dance experience, this CD might work; but for a moving and uplifting experience of the human spirit (with real drums played by a master drummer and beautiful vocals), I will listen to Shantala's "Live in Love" or any of Satkirin Kaur's or Snatam Kaur's many beautiful CDs.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Age Music Meets HOUSE Music, March 28, 2009

I love this CD. I really love soulful, deep, Chicago House music that hits you right in the heart and makes you want to dance. I have outgrown my taste for going out and partying and have been looking for the spiritual-side of electronica. This Wah! CD is it! I heard track 7 & 9 on my way to work early in the morning and it got me up and going better than my two cups of coffee! Plus her voice, the mantra, the beat just made me so happy. I am sharing her music with everyone I know.

I absolutely love this CD. For yoga, to dance with, to reflect...whatever you're in the mood for. I can't listen to this CD without it bringing my day to a happier place...I especially love "Maha Deva" (both versions) So uplifting and great "chill out" tracks.

I thought this was a great CD to use in my vinyasa yoga classes - however, I did need to download it and rearrange the tracks

5.0 out of 5 stars Soul Soothing Comfort, January 17, 2009

This music moves energy! Especially Ganesha, Hanuman, Maha Deva Soulshine and more. The music is excellent and the "rap" is fun. I play this CD especially when I need a lift or on the treadmill or any time. Sometimes at work the memory of the music gets me through the day. Plenty of variety on this CD. Needless to say I totally disagree that it doesn't breathe. Thanks to Wah and company; I'm glad I bought this CD!

4.0 out of 5 stars it's got a beat and you can dance to it, November 23, 2008

I have seen Wah! live, which was a great experience. So I realize this
lp is a departure, but the drum machines work. The cuts are slinky and danceable; I dig how she "raps" on a few cuts, like "Sacred Patterns." While the drum beats can get repetitive, you could also consider this hypnotic. On the sultry cuts, Wah! recalls a spiritual Sade, but with a better voice. I have no problem with Wah! trying to take the spiritual
to a wider audience through a different musical format. Good for her.

4.0 out of 5 stars modern hindu sprititual..., December 20, 2009

Some folks seem to have no clue what this music is about and why it is structured the way it is.
And to have gall to think they know what someone else's motivations are...?

For anyone curious this music is Hindu devotional chanting (goes back several thousand years) set to modern rhythms.
The intent is repeated chanting slowly building up pace and intensity, adding rhythms and melody.

If you enjoy this you'll find Wah!'s music tempo "cooks" at times with lots of interspersed rhythms and upbeat melody.
