A cozy romance with a dash intrigue, November 21, 2005
This review is from: To Love and Honor (Ever After Love Inspired Collection) (Mass Market Paperback)
Irene Brand weaves a nicely-paced story of honoring love in all its varieties, that between mother and daughter, child to grandfather and of course, woman to man. There's more to this tale than just finding romantic love, though; fans of cozy mysteries and family dramas will like the ride, and those who really connect with a classic romance will especially enjoy the journey. And the price makes this a great stocking stuffer or hospital-stay gift.

Full of twists and turns, September 11, 2011
This review is from: To Love and Honor (Ever After Love Inspired Collection) (Mass Market Paperback)
Roger's story is pretty normal. He was widowed when his children were young. They had been through so much that he just didn't feel adding a step-mom to the mix was a good idea. Working as a cup and a youth minister in his church kept him busy with his two now teenage children. His best friend, Violet, also went to his church and he was beginning to see her as more than a friend, but...
Violet's story is pretty sad. She was raised by her aunt and uncle. Her aunt was her mother's sister. Her father, who died when Violet was only three, was from a secretavie family - one that Violet didn't know...The secrets were locked deep in her family, and those holding the keys were reluctant to unlock the door to the secrets.
Violet was also dating Larry. Larry was the principle at the school where Violet taught. Larry's family was quiet rich and prissy, and Violet always knew Larry's mother didn't approve of her, and would surely put the brakes on the relationship if she ever knew her dark family secrets...
Then one evening, Roger comes to Violet's house with a key that could unlock the mysteries of her family. The secrets Violet is carrying are suddenly about to be exposed for everyone to see, and the key to those mysteries surrounding her family are soon exposed as well...After making a heart-wrenching decision, she suddenly feels abandoned by her boyfriend and others in school. It seems that she has so many hard decisions to make, and ever-faithful Roger is right there beside her falling in love with her and helping her through the hard times.
Small spoiler below:
The romance in this story was wonderful. We soon find the couple in love with each other and engaged to be married before the book is half over, so you know this isn't just a book about romance...There is a mystery and a whole bunch of trials that Violet has to face with and without Roger at her side. This book is surprising and full of twists and turns. Sometimes I'd read and say, OHHHHH I know what's going to happen next! Then realize what I thought was going to happen didn't happen...
The biggest shock of all was when her beloved Roger refused to help her with one of her problems. My mouth flew open and I called him a JERK out loud! I was in such shock I couldn't believe it. Oh, how I ached for Violet like she was aching - feeling alone at the moment...And though Roger and she quickly made up, I don't think I ever quite recovered from roger's refusal to help her when she needed him the most...
This was a great story full of romance, mystery, and healing. There are plenty of scriptures that would help anyone in situations. I found the scriptures uplifting and inspiring...I loved how the couple prayed together at every opportunity, and how the four - Roger and his two kids with Violet - joined hands together and prayed over their new house before they united as a family. That was a sweet story!!!
Oh, and did I mention that Roger was quite a bit older than her? I'm guessing he was probably 40 compared to her 28. His son, Jason, was 19...
GREAT STORY!!!!!!!!!!!!
