Product Description

When young soldier Dalton Joiner (Austin Stowell, The Secret Life of the American Teenager) finds out that his girlfriend Jane (Aimee Teegarden, Friday Night Lights) back home has dumped him, he vows to sneak out of Vietnam during his one-week leave to win her back. His best friend Mickey Wright (Liam Hemsworth, The Hunger Games) will do anything to help his buddy out as long as there might be a few girls along the way. In just seven days they must get to the States, change Jane s mind and make it back to the war without getting caught. But when they arrive stateside they find Jane and her beautiful, committed activist friend Candace (Teresa Palmer, Warm Bodies) at the heart of the anti-war movement. Now the young soldiers must make some life changing decisions as they spend a week learning the truth about love, honor and commitment. Set against the backdrop of the landmark summer of 1969, LOVE AND HONOR is a heartwarming romantic drama featuring a passionate young cast.

The melodrama "Love and Honor" is not terribly dissimilar to a lightweight period romance that you might catch on a television network such as the Hallmark Channel. There's nothing particularly wrong with that. With an attractive cast, the movie might be appealing to the younger demographic or those that aren't concerned with any amount of dramatic realism. With its modern sensibilities and contemporary styling, the movie plays with the "let's put on a show" exuberance that contradicts the potential seriousness of the subject matter. Never for a minute can you believe that this accurately reflects the tumultuous period that it pretends to depict. Instead, it is a group of modern (albeit appealing) actors going though the cliches that signify Vietnam era concerns. Shot through a gauzy filter, the movie looks lovely enough and many of the performances are earnest. But the movie lacks bite and realness. At best, it's a tepid tweener romance portrayed by a nice slate of up-and-coming actors. At worst, it is riddled with painful platitudes and (despite being well meaning) ends up being so contrived and corny as to be almost unbearable.

The film begins, improbably enough, in the jungles of Vietnam. We're introduced a group of well scrubbed soldiers who banter affectionately amidst the surrounding dangers. You won't believe it for a minute. When on furlough, a soldier (Austin Stowell) wants to return to the states to proclaim his enduring love for the girl he left behind (Aimee Teegarden). Much to his surprise, she has changed her name and become a part of the anti-war movement. His best buddy (Liam Hemsworth) has accompanied him and the two must fend off the requisite disdain of this peace loving group of hippies. You won't believe a minute of this environment either.

This movie was a great romantic story and really gave insight to what the boys went through in Nam and how the same aged kids reacted in America. Great learning experience for everyone. Very touching. Highly recommend it.

Loved it! Great war themed romance. Good depiction of the extreme differences of a soldier's life and those protesting the war back home. I also enjoyed that it was mostly a romance that took place back home in the states, without the horror, blood and guts of war.

A vehicle for Liam's gorgeousness but acting and script falls flat. I put a fiance and a high school friend on the plane from Houston to California where they shipped out to Viet Nam. I remember the gut-wrenching separation to this day. They were barely out of boyhood, drafted out of college, and sent to a place they had never known existed for reasons they accepted as handed down by our country's leadership. They did it because they thought you answered when your country calls. While they left home, suspended their dreams, and risked everything, we went on with our lives and embraced an era of protests, hippie culture and Harvard snobs who ran for Canada when their draft number came up. It was a shameful, horrific time and this movie did not begin to capture that. What it did say is that the girl back home really was all those boys lived for and died for.
And we are still sending boys to far off places......at least they have the choice to go or not. There is no draft anymore.

This is a good movie that should be shown to all H.S. kids maybe even junior HS kids to help explain the Vietnam War and the 1960's to youngsters. This movie emphasizes that we should not blame soldiers for wars but the politicians who start them instead. More over this movie shows that many of the people who protested the War were at least well meaning. And that it was a dangerous obnoxious minority that were the criminal bomb throwers and radicals that often give the anti war movement its bad name.

The Vietnam experience was not black and white, not go or no go. A realistic look at this war's experience state side. You don't have to agree with some of the politics in this movie but anyone who served can identify with the emotional conflict, the comradeship and the dichotomy. This movie is well the viewer's time, especially if you've been there.

I thought this movie was going to be a typical like most military love movies but it was pretty good & nothing turned out how I thought it would be at the end. I also loved how this movie kept my full attention and my full interest all the way through til the end.
