Still trying to get her "stride" at Arista, Aretha's second release for the company is in many ways similar to the first. It is a 60/40 composition with overly-produced tracks that do not serve the artist as well as the simpler accompaniment of her Atlantic years. But, that withstanding, there are still some winners here.

The first track, a ballad with George Benson, is sensitive and the two artists do well together. There are three covers (Sam & Dave's "Hold On, I'm Comin', The Rolling Stones' "You Can't Always Get Want You Want," and Diana Ross's "It's My Turn") which goes to show that Aretha, like Luther Vandross, can take another's song and make it uniquely hers. "Living the Streets" and "There's a Star for Everyone" are also two noteworthy selections.

After years of so-so albums, Aretha Franklin released one of her best albums with two breathtaking gospel flavored covers, «Hold on I'm comin'» and «You can't always get what you want».

I always thought the title track of this album was recorded for George Benson's "Best Of" compilation.This was a small revelation to me,since I thought I owned all the Arif Mardin productions from '71 thru the present.I guess I'm a sucker for this sound(Phillinganes,Foster,Buchanan,Porcaro-can't beat it),and Aretha sounds incredible as usual."There's A Star For Everyone" is a fave!

There is some filler on this album, but there are two very different and equally superb tracks that alone make it important - the title track "Love All the Hurt Away", a mellow duet with George Benson with unusual melody, harmony and meter that set it apart, and Aretha's version of "It's My Turn". Diana Ross's version sounded like the petulant pout of an annoyed diva (I loved it, but it was hard to take her seriously). Aretha's is an anthem for every woman - more than 5 minutes long, with each repetitive phrase folding out as something new, and a true gospel feel to Aretha's singing. I think this is one her best tracks of all time, and stands up well to much of her classic '60's and early '70's stuff. The singing, the way she builds up and lets go, the back-up singers, everything is classic Aretha. On both tracks, one has that feeling of awe that Aretha's best singing produces, the realization that no one in the world has ever sung like that, before or after. "Hold On, I'm Coming" is overproduced, but fun, and again great singing by Aretha. The other songs may not be among her greats, but several are quite good, and that makes this among my favorite Ree albums. If you do nothing else, at least download "It's My Turn" from iTunes, and glory in the vocal powers of the Queen of Soul. Amazing stuff.

Aretha Franklin's Love All The Hurt Away bridged the gap between her R&B releases and her Pop-Rock releases.This was after the Aretha 1980 Album but before her comeback Album Jump To It in 1982.There's Love All The Hurt Away with George Benson,The remake of Sam&Dave's Hold On I'm Coming,Live In The Streets,There's A Star For Everyone,The remake of You Get What You Need,The remake of Diana Ross's It's My Turn,Truth And Honesty,Search On,A Whole Lot Of Me,and My Kind Of Man.She definitely was on the verge of a major Career Comeback.

I had the vinyl and now i own the cd. i have always enjoyed hearing Aretha sing "Its My turn". After she recorded it, Diana Ross left it alone although she sang it first. "Search On' is the best cut along with the George Benson duet.

Great songs from a great singer. the rest of the album lacks something.....but it is still better than most of today's popular music.

Aretha seemed to be vacillating between R&B and MOR-pop on this, her second Arista release. The title track duet with George Benson remains one of her smoothest and classiest hits and helped spur the album's sales. "It's My Turn", "Hold On, I'm Coming" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" were also very good but the rest of the album (while very classy) is merely passable.

Aretha Franklin Hit Her Hey day on Atlantic in the mid to late 60's through the Mid to late 70's before going over to Arista Records.I like the title track She did with George Benson but after that it's a few Covers&Some Tracks that are signs of what was to come during Her 80's Arista Days til Now which has been Material that is Hit&Miss at Best to me overall.still there are some Soulful Performances here.
