About the Author

Raised in a Newark, NJ housing project, Michael B. Jackson was introduced to a life of crime and heroin addiction at an early age. At 18, he made his first trip to prison, and for the next 10 years was in an out of prison for parole violations and new offenses. Like so many inmates, he became more comfortable behind bars than in the outside world.

One day Jackson finally "got it" and made a commitment to change his life for the better. Channeling his anger and resentment for positive purposes, he began to put back the pieces of his self-esteem and character. In 1979, after spending several months in a halfway house, he was paroled and never again returned to prison. Within 10 months of his release, Jackson gained custody of his son who at eight years of age had become involved in petty crimes.

Today, Jackson is an author, motivational speaker, entrepreneur, and the founder of a website devoted to helping convicts and their families find success during and after prison. Employed by a state parole agency, Jackson conducts seminars and training sessions on topics related to success after prison. He has appeared on many radio and TV shows including The Iyanla Show and Dayside with Linda Vester.

I really enjoyed this book. It was very helpful with dealing with my boyfriend whose was just released. He is on parole for three years. I really feel that reading this book will keep him from going back. I am trying to be a strong black woman and stick by him; but it is a difficult process. The system has changed him so much. It is like he is a different person after five years. I really need more advice. Thank you.

I would recommend this book to anyone trying to love and inspire a man after prison. I liked this book because it contains real life situations and stories. There are no "pretty" pictures painted for you, just the facts. A very easy read.

This is the only book I could find that helped me understand what I needed to do to get ready to help my husband when he was paroled last week. This book helped me so much. Thank you Mr. Jackson
