Sheryl Crow's "Love is Free" has a distinctly Polynesian sound. It's as if Crow were playing a ukelele on Maui. "Love is Free" is an easygoing song about finding love in difficult times (one wonders if it's a Hurricane Katrina reference, with its mention of natural disasters) Crow sings "People are making love, since love is free." Crow's almost anachronistic in speaking of "making love" instead of "having sex" (or cruder terms)

"Love is Free" is laidback guitar music. It's perfect for mint juleps on a hot summer afternoon.

The past few years have been difficult for Sheryl Crow. After the battles with losing her fiance Lance Armstrong, and her personal war with Breast Cancer, she has maintained a new found sense of purpose as a songwriter and a new mother by adopting a little baby. That feel good sense is well-displayed on her song Love Is Free, the second single from her latest album Detours. the song doesn't completely feel like it is anything new in the style we've heard from Sheryl. Instead, the song goes back to the peppy-styled songs we've all known to love from her from her beginnings that feel similar to All I Wanna Do and Soak Up The Sun. While the song isn't going to bring in new listeners who seem to be more interested in Britney Spears or Beyonce', it still is a delight for die hard Sheryl Crow fans young and old.

I'm writing this review as I am now purchasing this song for the third time. Unfortunately this is one of those songs that didn't seem to want to transfer from the Detours Album from Itunes to Amazon Cloud. This particular song tells a story about Katrina in a very interesting and caring way. Love is Free optimizes and epitomizes Sheryl's positive attitude and ability to find good even in bad times. A good song for all times!
