5.0 out of 5 stars The Album that should have made them known in your suburb
If you were to play a few albums defining American New Wave in the 1980's LOVE IS THE LAW could be the definitive one.

The cover itself is beautiful and verrry cool.

"Love Is The Law" is one of the 80's should-have-been-biggest songs. It's soo damn infectious!

3.0 out of 5 stars Burbalicious.....
I have to say that I have always enjoyed this CD....however, it was a big bummer coming off of one of the truly greatest rock CD's of the 21st century - Credit in Heaven - by the 'burbs.

This CD was the beginning of the end for the boys...It was a major label, and I can remember them backstage one day bragging to me that the producer for REO Speedwagon (or something...

"Love Is The Law" is one of the 80's should-have-been-biggest songs. It's soo damn infectious!

"Rattle My Bones" was recently re-recorded by the group for a Target ad and it's not hard to gauge why.

It's one of their catchiest numbers as well as get your attention from the beginning.

"Monster Man", "Perfect Communist" and "Rainy Day" are Ferryesque

new wave classics.

Buy this album if only for the title track, "Rainy Day" and "Perfect Communist".

The Suburbs deserve to mentioned in the same breath as The Replacements, Prince and Husker Du when mentioning

Minneapolis' finest!

Love Is The Law!!!

But if you're reading this review, you probably didn't get here by accident. Several great songs on here that you won't find on the compilations and 'best of' albums, like 'crazy job' and 'hell a'.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great MINNEAPOLIS Band, March 16, 2008

Their quirky early sytle was certainly not for everyone, and all but forgotten now, but for about a decade or so, particularilly in the Twin Cities, but also touring through out the Mid-West, the Suburns could do no wrong. This is one of their last albums and actually was accessable enough to garner air play on WXRT in Chicago in the mid-1980's. RATTLE MY BONES is a fun cut. There is a mix of wonderfully complex and full recordings of ballads and uptempo trax with beautiful orchestration by the band. LOVE IS THE LAW, the title Track, has a catchy synth-horn intro that drives the track.

Known for their legendary and lenghthy live shows, the Suburns never gyped their audience in concert. This studio record finds them at their best, IMO, capturing the stage energy in a very listenable atmosphere.

Gone but not forgotten, MUSIC FOR BOYS, indeed.

The All Music Guide deams this the album to own by the 'Burbs, rating it a full 4.5 (out of 5 stars).

4.0 out of 5 stars I saw the Suburbs back in1985..., August 6, 2005
This review is from: Love Is the Law (Audio CD)
at the student union in Iowa City, Iowa. I was in the 8th grade and it was my first concert. I have seen a lot of concerts since then, but none of them echoed so loudly as that show. 'Love is the Law' is okay. Its kind of simple stuff. But some of that simple stuff is really great. The funny thing is, the best Suburbs album was their last one that came out in '86. I can't find that one anywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars A true classic... available again!!!, March 15, 2004

Back in the early 80s, this gem found its way into the vinyl racks for about, oh..... five minutes! Then Mercury dumped the band. They made one more album and imploded. I saw the Suburbs live twice. The first time was as an opening act for Iggy Pop at a small club in Madison, Wisconsin. The second time was as they were winding their way back thru the west at a little bar in Greeley, Colorado. Both shows were fine, but what I will always remember the band for is a post-gig discussion I had with a kind and personable Blaine John Chaney, and one of the finest rock records ever recorded: LOVE IS THE LAW. Everything came together on this album. The band is hot. The tunes are great. The production is supurb. This album is easily one of the finest examples of American music in the 80s. It's a great thrill to find out it has been released on CD. I can now retire my worn out vinyl.

5.0 out of 5 stars Could it Get Any Better, October 21, 2007
This review is from: Love Is The Law (Audio CD)
I will say I am a little biased. I grew up with the Suburbs. As a teenager they directed me to a world of music I had never seen. Opening the doors to punk, grunge, and alternative music before grunge an alternative were even well know forms. But can you categorize The Suburbs as any of these or even as rock? I say no. They are there own eclectic and enthralling mix of all forms. Just check out their Chemistry Set CD - you'll get the picture. But I digress - the Love is The Law CD contains two of my favorite songs by any band ever. They are Rattle My Bones for its delicious lyrics and Love is The Law for the way it just get under your skin and stays. I could go on and on however I will just end by saying - love is still the law!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have, February 25, 2003
This review is from: Love Is the Law (Audio CD)
This album was my favorite when I was probably 5 years old. I always made my Dad listen to it. I found it on vinyl recently and gave it a listen. I remembered every song! It is one of the albums that you can listen to every song without skipping any. Very solid, and personally my favorite of all of their albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rattle My Bones Again, December 24, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Love Is the Law (Audio CD)
Loved the reunion concert. Was there on Oct 4th 2002 and cannot yet put the feeling in words. I grew up in a small-small town. In the mid 80's a friend of mine read a review of the Suburbs and bought "Love is The Law". That alblum was unlike anything I had ever heard before. It made a lonely teenage realize the world was a big place where you could find many diverse and driving forces. I serenaded my first love to "Monster Man" and bawled by brains out to "Perfect Communist" when we broke up. You guy gave me strength to make it through my final years of high school and the will to break away from my small town and go to collage. Thanks for the memories - old and new!

P.S. Yes Dream Hog!
