5.0 out of 5 stars A Cookbook Plus, August 31, 2009
Peggy Grose's Love and Lemon Pie: Recipes for the Body and the Soul is a cookbook plus.

In addition to recipes she has collected over forty-five years, Grose includes suggestions on nurturing relationships. These "mini-lessons" are arranged so they can be read "while you stir the oatmeal or watch the lemon meringue pie."

Drawn from her studies in interpersonal communication and her experience as a counselor, the suggestions are brief and concrete: "As often as possible, treat your children as you would your friends..."; "When you give someone 'the silent treatment,' that's emotional abuse"; "If you say you forgive, but still don't feel healed, perhaps you need more time to process the hurt. Find a good listener"; "An addiction is anything we think we have to lie about."

Although much of the advice focuses on family relationships, it is also valid for the workplace and, in fact, all the associations we humans create.

Grose's book is worth purchasing for the recipes alone: "Ted's Elegant Meat Loaf"; "Mama's Brownies"; "Mary's Good-Enough-to-Be-Junk-Food Casserole."

But the heart of the book is its advice on relationships--and the loving words that nourish the soul.

Anyone wanting new recipes; insightful and practical suggestions for improving, repairing, and maintaining relationships; or a gift idea should take a look at Love and Lemon Pie.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet recipes for living, June 30, 2008
This review is from: Love and Lemon Pie: Recipes for the Body and the Soul (Paperback)
I had the opportunity to meet the author, Peggy Grose who wrote "Love and Lemon Pie" while I was in Austin, TX recently. I was fortunate to pick up a copy of her book and have had the time to peruse through it. It was my delight to find that it is much more than just another recipe book. She has captured many of her own bits of time learned wisdom and shares them with the reader as a corollary to the many recipes she shares with you. It is unusual to find a book that serves to nourish the sole as well as the body. As I read through the bits of wisdom that the author learned, on her own through lifetime challenges, many of her ideas rang true. This book could be used as a guide for how we should interface with others for a better humanity. Now I am looking forward to trying some of her recipes soon, especially the Lemon Pork Chops on page 157.
