Book Description

October 31, 2005
Fourteen-year-old Prue and her sister Grace have been educated at home by their super-strict father all their lives. Their attempts to find out what being an ordinary teenager is like — buying nice clothes instead of wearing Mum’s odd, hand-made garments, reading teenage magazines etc. — are greeted with fury by their Dad. But when he is hospitalized with a stroke, Prue suddenly discovers what it’s like to have a little freedom.

Unable to cope, their mother enrolls them at the local comprehensive where, for the first time, they experience school life. Prue had never thought it would be so so hard to fit in. The only person she can talk to is the young Art teacher, Rax. She and Rax bond over art lessons, and soon he asks her to babysit for him and his wife. This becomes a regular “date” and Prue can’t wait for the ten minutes they have alone together when he drives her home. She wonders if Rax has the same feelings for her. But he can’t act upon them, can he?

4.0 out of 5 stars A Lesson In Love Indeed, February 1, 2006
This review is from: Love Lessons (Hardcover)
Jacqueline Wilson makes a spectacular return to form with her honeyed view of a taboo topic in her latest book, Love Lessons. The story revolves around a fourteen-year-old named Prudence who falls in love with her teacher - a story many, including myself, can relate to.

The story is beautiful and well-written, and although many reviewers have slated the unseemly romance that blossoms between Prudence and Rax - claiming it 'preposterous', I think Ms Wilson handles it with care and without judgement... for the most part. While Prue is a perfect example of a teenage girl with her first borderline obsessive crush, I think Rax could have done with an extra dose of morals - I can accept the possibility for a teacher to fall for one of his pupils, but he fails to then be a respectable character in acting upon his feelings for Prue.

Aside from that, Jacqueline Wilson has delivered one of her finest books to date, even if the reader has to stretch their realm of disbelief a wee bit to accept the essential plotline. As a girl who herself had a relationship with a teacher that went a little outside the boundaries, I know from whereof I speak.

And what is the lesson that we learn from Lessons in Love? NOT that love conquers all, certainly - but that love conquers all of us, and that we cannot choose who it is that we love.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book!, January 13, 2012
This review is from: Love Lessons (Kindle Edition)
I liked this book, even though I am sick of Jacqueline Wilson's books now after reading so many of them. I loved the main character Prudence!

3.0 out of 5 stars Love Lessons, October 16, 2010

This review is from: Love Lessons (Kindle Edition)
Pruedence and her sister Grace hate their life. They have ugly and babyish clothes and a super strict dad who home schools them.Pruedence sneeks of to a local shopping village when she is supposed to go to maths tutoring and spends the tutoring fees on herslef. Her strict dad finds out he is furious.

When her dad has to go to a hospita due to a stroke , Pruedences mother sends her and her sister to school. Grace love school and makes 2 friends but Pruedence finds it hard to fit in.She is always being teased by mean girls in her class who are always bitching about her. Prue then finds herself falling in love with her art teacher , Rax. When Rax asks her to babysit his children Prue is delighted.

Love Lessons is about Pruedence's and Rax's relationship , how Prue copes with school and how Prue copes with her family.

I think that this book should not be exposed to children under 9 because some parts of the book are inapropitet .

Personly i think that the book it a very good read because it exposes the life of a sad 14 year old girl.

I was a bit dissapionted with this book because compared to the other Jacqueline Wilson books like Double Act and My sister Jodie so thats why Love Lessons only deserved 3 stars.
