I was so excited when I received Jean Feldman's new book. I went to an Early Childhood conference in January that she was presenting at and I enjoyed it. I have all of her CD's and use them in my classroom. This book is a must have for a teacher teaching preschool or Kindergarten. All of the activities in this book is easy to use and great for teaching children letters & early literacy. Several of the activities that she did at the conference were in here, which I was excited to see them. All the activities are hands on and children centered.

I use Dr. Jean's ideas to set up my preschool room following the ideas from Wonderful Rooms Where Children Can Bloom. This is a great extension for ideas to add to the classroom. I am getting excited for summer vacation to be done and my students to return to school so I can implement so many new ideas.

One of my favorite things about this book is how many ideas there are to include family involvement such as making a book about each student's favorite foods. The families will send in labels or fronts of boxes. The student will make a book using these labels. It's a great beginning reading activity.

I also can't wait to implement clipboard writing. There's a great idea of how to make inexpensive clipboards for the students to use. This is going to be such an exciting year!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellant Resource for parents too!, May 26, 2010

This review is from: I Love Letters!: More Than 200 Quick & Easy Activities to Introduce Young Children to Letters and Literacy (Paperback)
I picked this book up at the library for ideas of fun literacy activities to do with my 2 and 3.5 year old. After taking tons of notes of ideas, and not being halfway through the book, I returned it to the library. Because I am a parent and not a teacher, I often have to toss out so many book ideas that it is not worth it to own them. Not so with this one: it is very worth owning, even as a parent!
The activities are great for different ages. There are things that my (just) two year old can enjoy, things for my 3.5 year old, and things that I'll be saving for later, when he's older.
Also, it really doesn't require a lot of materials that you don't have.
My list of things I needed (and you might not, depending on the ideas you select and how you implement them) to buy from this book was:

notebooks (and I can always use more)
some larger paper or writing board (already wanted this).

I'm very excited to own this resource!

Great ideas for teachers - but also good for parents. I'm always looking for ways to help my daughter's class, and this gave me tons of ideas of items to bring in for her teacher.

I really like how the book breaks down target skills for literacy in early childhood education and then gives activities that teach those skills. A quick and easy reference guide that has great ideas to expand upon!

I purchased this book for the staff in my Pre-school. They have already added some of the activities into their lesson plans and started using a few. The book has many good ideas.
