4.0 out of 5 stars Short but sweet, June 16, 2008
Although this book is relatively short, it is still worth the purchase for anyone interested in the Anne Boleyn and King Henry VIII affair. The letters are very touching and shed some light on how much King Henry loved Anne, thus cutting ties off with Rome and declaring himself the head of the English Church. It's almost surreal that a man could love a woman so much and go to such extremes for her, but then have her beheaded. Nevertheless, the book demonstrates his great desire for her and it is rather lovely to read.

This review is from: Love Letters of Henry VIII to Anne Boleyn (Paperback)
Thin book since the preserved letters are few, but worth a read for Tudor enthusiasts.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great addition to a Tudor enthusiast's Library, December 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Love Letter of Henry VIII to Anne Boleyn is a short collection of letters found. They have been transcribed and put in order according to the most plausible time-line. This is decribed at the conclusion of the letters. This is a great read and addition to a library for an Tudor enthusiast. They are not overly descriptive or seductive by any means, but they show Henry's true concern for her health during the time of the sweating sickness, and his interest in making her his mistress and then ultimately his wife. Once letter is included that Anne Boleyn writes to Cardinal Wolsey seeking interest in the decision made on the king's matter. The kindle addition is very cheap; however, once I purchased it I saw there was a second kindle version that was only .99, so search a bit and find that one obviously. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read, April 15, 2011

I have read a lot of histories about the Tudors over the years and they all quote these letters and I always wanted to read them. It was great to read them all in the correct order and put them into my own perspective. Whether you just started reading about the Tudors or are a seasoned campaigner in English history, this book is a must have.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's okay as far as it goes..., February 13, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
As you can tell from my profile pic, I'm a Tudor lover (a Tudorian?). I am mesmerized by Anne Boleyn and the small but significant role she played that re-shaped the Western world. The first queen executed. Elizabeth I. The Church of England replacing Catholicism. It boggles the mind to think if Anne's baby had been a robust boy or if she'd been given a second chance to have another pregnancy. (Well...ok...a third chance.)

This little book is both delightful and irritating. It's a reprint of a 1922 book and so feels old-fashioned. But in being "Digitalized by Watchmaker Publishing," according to the copyright page, page numbers couldn't be added? And if you're not into the Notes at the end of books, you'll miss the coup de gras: Anne's only known letter to Henry which the final page of this book states is included in very few biographies of Anne.

The nicest thing is that the words are legible. Some context is given in the Notes. But you'll want to be familiar with Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn to appreciate this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Great True Stories of Romantic Obsession, June 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This collection is an absolute must for anyone interested in the history of Tudor England. During Henry VIII's long courtship of Anne Boleyn, who refused all entreaties to become the King's mistress, Henry wrote several long, impassioned, poetic and sometimes desperate letters to the woman many believe was the grand passion of his life.

Although the passion sputtered out and died - as did Anne - the letters remain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tiny Gem For Tudor History Buffs!, May 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've been deeply interested in Tudor history for the past 14 years and read everything I can get my hands on, fiction and nonfiction alike. I really enjoyed this slim volume of letters. They're all fairly brief, not terribly personally revealing, and definitely (or should I say, unfortunately?) NOT salacious in the least--yet there is a certain intimacy to them. They provide an authentic, albeit tiny, window into the private lives of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. Reading the words meant for her dark eyes alone allows you be transported back in time nearly 500 years to discover firsthand his declarations of affection and constant, concerned queries regarding her health. This belongs on the bookshelf of anyone who's fascinated by Anne and Henry's tragic love story or by this period in English history.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love letters of Henry IIIV & Anne Boleyn, August 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This came from the UK so I was a bit hesitant of ordering out side the US. The book was advertised as used, it looks brand new, no markings, no folds, and it is a thin book so easily could've crumpled up. Loved it. Order was here before estimated date. I Would definatley order from this person again and plan to! Was very impressed
