Everyone has the right to Love, Liberty, and a little disco!,

Wow, the title of this one really scared me when i first heard of it. Being the avid Newsboys fan i am, I've seen the newsboys go from the Dry, 80's aussie rock style in "Read all about it" and "Hell is for wimps", To a bit of rapping and almost dance in "Boys will be boys". After that they released 3 similar albums each one better than the preceding one, "Not ashamed", "Going public" and "Take me to your leader". These were mostly mondern rock with some pop. Then came "Step up to the microphone", a hip, rock/pop album with some real hot tracks and i loved itm the Newsboys really know their ear-candy But i have to be honest, when the first few seconds of "Love Liberty Disco" met my ears i was surpirsed, "this is the newsboys?" i asked myself. I wasn't sure i could ever really get into this sorta style, but hey it's been 2 weeks since i bought it and i have yet to go a day without listening to the entire cd! it really grows on you! Of course, my fav album will always be "Going public" because of "Shine".

A Fun Change, With Real Soul,
By "silverladder" (Phoenix, Az.) - See all my reviews

I don't see what everyone's problem is with this album. NO good band will EVER make the same album twice. Expecting the Newboys to make "Take Me To Your Leader" part 2 or another "Going Public" is like expecting U2 to make another "Joshua Tree." I use U2 fans as an example, because a lot of them flipped out when the band recorded the different, but incredible, "Achtung Baby." People who have knocked "Love Liberty Disco" are afraid of change, plain and simple. I have all of the band's albums from "Not Ashamed" to "Disco," and I think "Disco" is one of the Newsboys top three efforts (alongside TMTYL and Step Up). The title track is fun and beautiful, "Beautiful Sound" is simply amazing, and "Forever Man" gives me chills. "Good Stuff" is fun, funky, and danceable, and "Break" shows more soul-music influence than any other Newsboys song ever. Two words for this album: "A Classic." (http://www.silverladder.com)

Don't think I don't love this CD! Newsboys get 10 stars!,

First of all I will say that I am one of those major "#1" fans of the Newsboys. Ever since I got "Step Up" in '98, I've been hooked. I'm giving a review of "Love Liberty Disco" because I want to be able to compare all of their 4 most recent albums, starting with the latest. "LLD" is great, but with a lowercase g. The song "Love, Liberty, Disco" is fun, but not the best one on the CD. Don't be fooled into thinking the whole thing is pure disco. My personal favorite- "Forever Man." I love the keyboarding and the riveting beat on this song. My other favorites - "Say You Need Love" & "Break." Both fantastic songs in two different ways. If some of the other songs were more like this, I would have definitely rated "LLD" with 5 stars. Also I am rating this CD in relation to their previous albums which I think are somewhat better. Of all their CD's (in case you're wondering which one to start out with) my vote for best album would be "Step Up to the Microphone." It has the greatest amount of songs that can be listened to over and over again. This was my first CD of theirs and I still LOVE it. It's my favorite CD of all time. The best songs: "Step Up", "Entertaining Angels", "Hallelujah", and "Always." Going back in time... "Take Me to Your Leader" is a definite crowd pleaser. I love "Take Me to Your Leader", "Reality", "Breakfast" & "It's All Who You Know." "Cup O Tea" is the closest you'll get to hard rock with the newsboys. "Going Public." This is the one that really woke people up to the Newsboys. "Shine" is absolutely fantastic and if you never heard it. . .well you've got to. "Shine" along with "Real Good Thing" and "Truth & Consequences" make this CD great. If you've heard the Newsboys before you probably already noticed this, but do take into account that I'm not really that into the slow songs but some of them really are good. "The Tide" from "Step Up", "Be Still" from "Going Public" as well as "Breathe" & "Let it Go" from "TMTYL" are really wonderful ballads with inspirational lyrics if your not in the mood for dancing. To bring this all to an end, I'd say all these CDs are fantastic. You have to at least listen to each of them if not own all of them. To pick one, "Step Up to the Microphone" is their best in my eyes. I can't wait for a new album next year. With the Newsboys I don't even have to listen to a CD, I just go and buy it! P.S. If you ever get the chance to see these guys in concert, take it. They are just fantastic the way they use their music to praise God.

Newsboys are changing,

Don't expect the same sound you heard from Take Me To Your Leader. They have continued in the same direction they headed with Step Up To The Microphone. After listening through it a couple of times, I have become addicted. If you're willing to deal with change, get this one. (Number 9 is the best!)

No one will lie to you and say this album is similar to any other Newsboys album! But whether you like it or not really depends on your music preferences. The sound is more muted and instrumental, less raw, and the album jacket (while slickly made) is almost unreadable. The songs themselves range from nice to almost overtly Christian. When I first listened to it they all sound the same, but the more I listen, the more I can pick out different songs and the more I like them. If you're really into their "Take Me To Your Leader"-style hard rock, you may not like this, but I happen to.

I Still Don't Understand Why They Say it's Bad,
By Vanilla Bean (Mount Vernon, OH USA) - See all my reviews

I don't care what all those album reviewers say, this album is a piece of art. In order to fully appreciate the beauty of the songs on this album, you must try to understand. Probably the two greatest songs ever written, Beautiful Sound and Forever Man, are on this album. Do very many see them that way? No. Why? Because people don't appreciate the precious faith in God these songs show. Just listen to me, buy this CD, but don't expect all disco, but buy it because it has words in it that define life in a whole new perspective. The best songs other than Beautiful Sound and Forever Man are Love Liberty Disco, Good Stuff, Say You Need Love, Break, Fall On You. Why that's almost all of them! Who says this is bad?

Not up to par...,

For a band I considered to be one of the last bastions of good Christian rock, this album is surprisingly... disappointing. The step they took from _Take Me To Your Leader_ to _Step Up to the Microphone_ was something of a shock -- I remember a band that proudly boasted in the liner notes that their album (TMTYL) contained no loops or sequencing. _Step Up_ contained it's fair share of programming, with each song having a very electronic, synthesized tinge. The new album takes matters a step further, relegating the prominent guitar of _TMTYL_ to the background in order to make way in many cases for the Nashville String Machine, arranged for the most part (and arranged well, in many cases) by keyboardist Jeff Frankenstein. Overall, the album has a very funky feel -- one could guess the band has been listening to a little Saturday Night Fever for inspiration. Not a bad idea, but it doesn't work in every case. The songwriting in general is definitely not up to the level set by the last two albums -- lyrically the songs don't have the same edge that the previous albums had, that knack for putting words together. Musically, it seemes the band is running out of good ideas, so they settled for some mediocre ones. The album is not *all* bad: there are ten songs contained -- I found three to be pretty good ("Beautiful Sound," "Good Stuff," and "Say You Need Love"). "Say You Need Love" is really the only memorable track -- the others, while all having some hints of real quality, are simply forgettable. None of them has the hard edge featured on songs such as "Lost the Plot" (TMTYL) or "Truth Be Known" (Step Up). Fortunately, the band hasn't lost their faith: the lyrics do contain the message of the gospel, at times somewhat ambiguously, and at other times quoting almost verbatim from Scripture. The verdict: hardcore fans will buy it no matter what the reviews say, but those of you who are thinking about spending your fifteen bucks on something else might just want to do so -- meaning, your chances are about fifty-fifty (optimisticly) of *really* liking it.

This one of the best albumns ever! Many people may be disturbed at the title (love liberty disco) or the fact that some of the boys are wearing make-up but you shouldn't judge a CD by it's cover! The lyrics are solid and the music is smashing! Beautiful Sound is really neat a really great intro track. The title track Love Liberty Disco is funkier but it's alot of fun! Another one of my favorites is Say You Need Love. It's an extremely encouraging song. This CD definitley deserves 5 stars! Keep up the good work boys!

WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO, Love Liberty Disco was an awesome album, the 4th GOLD Newsboys album actually... This band has been Grammy nominated for Best Rock CD of the Year 3 times.. (Paul Reisers of the music world) - It would be politically incorrect if a CHRISTIAN band actually won in the ROCK area...anyway. I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the next Newsboys album which is scheduled to release in Fall 2000, and please please please PLEASE get "Shine - The Hits" which comes out Oct, 24, 2000.... it will be well worth your while.... it has all the best songs, and some new ones!!!

Fun foray into power pop and disco kitsch,

The Newsboys are no longer the high energy "boy band" they were way back in the 1980s, having established a durable career with many sonic highlights. With LOVE LIBERTY DISCO, the Newsboys continue their impressive winning streak that began with NOT ASHAMED. In fact, this may be their strongest release ever, other than TAKE ME TO YOUR LEADER. The sound throughout is vintage pop. "Beautiful Sound," "Forever Man," "Everyone's Someone," "I Would Give Everything," and "Say You Need Love" sound like the Electric Light Orchestra meets the Cars, with a dash of Blondie and the Beach Boys thrown in. (Those under 25 may reference Tal Bachman or Collective Soul.) The title cut and "Good Stuff" are more dance and hip hop oriented. The album ends with two "vertically-directed" songs, "Surrender All" and "Fall on You" that remind us that the Newsboys still have a strong focal point to all of their work. It's been a long journey since "Kingdom Man." As one who has watched the Newsboys through the years, it's been quite a ride. LOVE LIBERTY DISCO lets us know that the best days for the band...and their fans...are not behind us. There have been many highlights since, but few have encapsulated the pure joy of this stellar release.
