Some people want a book you can't put down. When I read this book, I found myself wanting to stop reading. I wasn't too interesting or exciting in any way.

Ending predictable, January 23, 2011

Pretty much from early on in the book, you know how the story will end. Its the story of a florist, Fern, turning 30 and wanting a commitment from her likeable, down to earth boyfriend. In the meantime, she meets a famous pop star and falls head over heels for him, dumping the boyfriend and going to LA to live a life of luxury and indulgence.
Its all pretty cliched - and just once, I would like the author not to take the easy option in these books, and mix it up and surprise the reader with the ending. But this book takes the route of so many other chick lit books and makes sure that the nice guy always wins.
The rock star in the story, Scottie Taylor - seems to be modelled too closely on real life pop star, Robbie Williams - I found that off putting as I felt like I was reading a made up story about Robbie. The author even used an incident of Robbie's when he signed a mega deal and declared to the press that he was filthy rich, in part of her story stating that Scottie did this. Consequently the Scottie character lacked originality and felt like a poor imitation.
I enjoy chick lit, but with so much of it on the market, you need to choose carefully to ensure you read something that has not been written before, and this is the case with this book.

If you need to take your mind off..., July 5, 2010

... and are looking for a light, more than easy read, then get this book. It has no depth whatsoever. Pure chick-lit if you like the genre. The farfetchedness and predictability of the whole story almost made me cringe but then again, my opinion is biased, I am not a great fan of this genre. Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate light reads and thought that this one could do the trick, but it just did not.
On the other hand, it should be taken for what it is: a light romantic comedy that will guarantee a rest to your brain cells for a while.
