Book Description

In this irresistible romantic romp, movie fanatic Kensington Shaw is thrown into love—Hollywood-style—when her gorgeous ex presents a series of big screen challenges to win back her heart.

What girl wouldn’t want to experience the Pretty Woman shopping scene? It’s number two on the list. Or, try the lift from Dirty Dancing? It’s number five. One list, ten romantic movie moments, and a handful of shenanigans later, Kenzi has to wonder…should she marry the man her family loves, or risk everything for a love like the movies?

Editorial Reviews

Review

5 STARS! "This story was a warm hug of romance and familiarity, but it also had a ton of realistic characters and situations that were very relatable. When I was done with the book, I found myself not wanting to say goodbye to Kenzi, and to me, that's the sign of a good story. Reading Love Like The Movies was exactly what I needed and I'm telling you right now you need to read it too."

5 STARS!  "I hardly give an author five stars on their debut, so I can only imagine what Victoria Van Tiem's next will be. BIG APPLAUSE and A STANDING OVATION!

"This book is so gush worthy and I kept smiling, laughing, and even saying "whaaattt" the entire time. This book really needs to get optioned for a movie, pretty please!"

Gitte & Jenny of TotallyBooked Blog:
"This right here is your quintessential love story, this is pure romance at its basic definition; the kind that leaves you with a smile on your face, a spring in your step and your heart in a puddle on the floor." ~Gitte

"I couldn't help but indulge myself in the sweetness, the cuteness and the sheer romance of it all. And... THAT EPILOGUE!!! OMG!!! SWOOOOOOOOOOON!!!!!!" ~Jenny

5 STARS! "Van Tiem masterfully delivers a story worthy of any John Hughes directed movie."

5.0 out of 5 stars A+ rating.... February 24, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Story Overview:
I'm a sucker for a romantic comedy movie, but have to be in just the right mood to enjoy that style of book. A lot of times to me, they feel silly when reading them. I don't know if this book was just that much better than all the rest or if I was just in the perfect mood, but I LOVED THIS BOOK.

If you are a fan of romantic comedy movies, you need to read this book. The book makes reference to a TON of rom coms and I've seen every single one of them so this touched all my hot buttons. It's rare that I get all the social references in things, but I knew these movies and the scenes that they referred to. I can't imagine reading this book without that. While I think you would still enjoy it, it would lose so much of the fun.

But at the heart of this book is Kensington. The book is told entirely from her point of view. Her entire life, Kensington has been somewhat overlooked. Her family has the perfect son and his wife. She's girlfriend to a guy she works with and he normally gets all the work accolades. This has always been the case but finally it is going to be her time to shine...to be the focus...because Bradley just asked her to marry him and now they have a wedding to plan. But things are quickly derailed when her sister in law announces her pregnancy on the same night Kensi announces their engagement. She lost her moment and from that moment on, Kensington's life spins out of control...topped off by the return of her college sweetheart, Shane, who broke her heart.

When Shane broke her heart, something changed about Kensington. She lost her rose-colored view of the world she'd always envisioned through her rom com obsession. This is her journey to finding that girl again...to finding her passion for life and herself again.

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect rom-com read! February 24, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Kensington Shaw has everything a girl could want; a successful career, a close group of friends, a fiance that her parents approve of, and a sparkling engagement ring. But whenever an ex-boyfriend sends her a friend request on Facebook, Kensington's world begins to spin out of control. She's faced with accepting the life her family wants for her and the life she wants for herself.

I loved this book. With Valentine's Day nearing, I read this book, and it was the perfect fit. Usually, I am skeptical about books with a love triangle. Victoria does it flawlessly, and I identified with Kensington's struggle. I can picture this book being turned into a movie.

There are a quite a few characters, but I never felt confused on remembering who was who and how they fit into the story. Each character had their own voice and motivations. Kensington is a very fun character to read her internal monologue. And Victoria offers characters that are easy to dislike. You immediately sympathize with the protagonists struggles. The relationships that Kensington experiences are amazing. The romance in the book is not overdone and unbelievable.

I stayed up way too late with this book, and I enjoyed every minute of it. The plot flows so well that you just have to keep reading to figure out the next twist in the plot. Victoria's wit comes across at the perfect moments. I woke up my boyfriend and our cat several times laughing at this book. It's the perfect guilty pleasure read. I would suggest it to any fan of Sophie Kinsella and Jane Green.

One last note, I adored the inclusion of the timeless rom-coms. It was such a nice touch, and I felt like it tied the book together perfectly. I cannot wait to see more from Victoria Van Tiem.

**I received this book free of charge in exchange for an honest review. My thanks to the author and/or publisher!

5.0 out of 5 stars In Review: Love Like the Movies by Victoria Van Tiem February 24, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
"The magic of boy meets girl, the angst of catch and release, the serendipity of meant-to-be. It doesn't matter if a romantic comedy follows a predictable course, we respond because it's rooted in truth. In magic."

You could probably guess this based on the majority of the books I read, but did you know romantic comedies are a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine? They totally are. This book took two of my favorite things: rom com movies and books with characters you can't help but love and rolled it them into one amazingly charming package.

Kenzi's life gets interesting soon after she gets engaged to her boyfriend Bradley (yawn!). Her ex pops back up into her life via Facebook. (Always fun when that happens.) She finds out she's in danger of losing her job. She has a huge client to impress and guess what? The big client is her ex. The one that got away. He's not too impressed with the design work she proposes, he knows she has more to offer, but is willing to give her a second shot, provided she play by his rules. Shane's opening a movie theater/restaurant combination (inspired by her... them) and wants to see her love of movies (romantic comedies, of course), her personality and talent shine through in the design. To achieve this (and hopefully win himself a second chance with her), he asks that she agrees to live ten movie moments with him. She does and hilarity (and more than a little real-life drama and romance) ensues.
