I thoroughly enjoyed this book, despite approaching it with a certain degree of trepidation, based on the publisher's description: I don't like love triangles, and as a rule I'm disappointed in characters who cheat on their significant others. The description also made it sound like Kate was all happy until a random encounter with an artist in Florida caused her to question everything. Thankfully, my assumptions could not have been further from the truth.

Kate is in a difficult relationship with a prima donna. It can be good, but is not very emotionally fulfilling. In the midst of this Kate must travel to Orlando to put the company making the props for her location shoot there in their place about sticking to the schedule. There she meets and is drawn to Dawn, a talented, driven individual who works for the prop company, and who is placed on her project in order to put things right. Her interactions with Dawn cause her to reexamine her life and priorities. Dawn is somewhat insecure about interacting with movie stars and famous producers, but can't help but feel their connection herself.

This author does a great job in creating sympathetic, human characters who have a psychology that is realistic. She really delves into their motivations, and provides a rich inner dialogue that allows the reader to follow them through their thoughts, providing for strong and consistent motivations that give the book some depth. I enjoyed the movie-production details provided, and also how the author didn't make any assumptions about what people may or may not know about the process: she gave plenty of detail to make it seem real, yet the plot didn't seem bogged down in it to me. Then again, I like books where characters are doing interesting things. And the back-drop of movie production was not just a gimmick here, used to create false drama that felt cliched, but instead used as an integral part of the plot, to place pressure and time constraints on the characters, and to move things along.

The ending is staged very well, and very dramatically, and is quite satisfying. Who doesn't love big moments in the rain? This is an excellent first novel. Not perfect, sometimes predictable, but the author has a good sense of pacing, and scene transitions, and character motivations, and I'll definitely check out her next book "Run to Me."

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, easy read, July 1, 2008
This review is from: Love on Location (Paperback)
As an earlier reviewer said, based on the publisher description, I almost didn't buy this. You know the thought process -- first novel, so-so description. However, I did and I'm glad I made the decision to do so.

It was a good, easy read. It flowed smoothly, the characters consistent, with good development of the supporting characters. There were a limited number of sex scenes, good but not exceptionally explicit.

I enjoy reading books that give me insight into a life of which I know little to nothing. The internal events of making a movie were a large part of this book. It made it even more entertaining and informative for me.

Looking forward to Ms. Girolami's next effort.

5.0 out of 5 stars A writer to watch, May 17, 2008
This review is from: Love on Location (Paperback)
The author's insider knowledge of the Hollywood film industry is evident in this romantic tale of a high-powered movie executive's journey to find true love. A sizzling debut novel with memorable characters, vivid settings, and entertaining insights into what it really takes to make a movie. A fun read, highly recommend.

I loved this book.
Kate Nyland is honorable, intense, entertaining and very lovable.
Dawn Brock is sweet, dedicated, talented and passionate.
Hannah Corrant is a bit*h.
I enjoyed looking into the author's and the character's world.
Discovering the 'behind the scenes' of building and managing movie
sets was an entertaining and educational experience.
This book is a definate winner.
The author writes extremely well and I have no doubt that this first book will be followed by many more. I will be champing at the bit until Lisa Girolami releases more of her stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Fun Fun!, June 1, 2009
This review is from: Love on Location (Paperback)
A really terrific story and characters. Not just the main characters but all of the supporting characters are lively, interesting and wonderfully fleshed out.

Kate is a high powered successful movie producer in Hollywood. She is attractive, funny and down to earth with plenty of smarts and self assurance to swim with the sharks. At age thirty-eight the only thing missing might be a lover to share it all with. Into her life comes hot new actress Hannah Courant. One year later they are no closer as a couple than when they met, while Hannah has become something of a diva. Both have separate homes and get together for Hollywood functions and sex.

Thirtysomething Dawn Brock works in Orlando Florida as a designer and production manager for a company that Kate has hired to create movie sets for her next picture. Dawn is attractive and self assured, like Kate was a year ago, Dawn is currently single and quickly smitten with Kate when they meet. For Kate, Dawn embodies all the elements she sees lacking in Hannah.

Tons of great moments fill this story along with passion and humor. This is a upbeat read that is perfect for a vacation day at the beach or at home.

If you enjoyed this novel look for the author's new book 'Run to Me'

4.0 out of 5 stars True Love Cannot Be Denied, December 10, 2008

Kate Nyland is in an unhappy relationship. In fact, some would say her relationship is just for show. She and her actress girlfriend, Hannah, look good together... very good. But looks can be deceiving.

Working on new film, Kate makes a splash at the art firm she's hiring when they mistake her for a lackey instead of her actual role as the film's producer. The only person at the firm who doesn't seem to be shaken is Dawn Brock, the head artist who will be assigned to the project.

Dawn feels an immediate attraction for Kate, but knows Kate is not available. Kate feels the same pull, but knows Hannah is at home. They continue to fight their attraction and do the `right thing,' but as every reader knows - it's only a matter of time before they give in. How they deal with Hannah is kinda fun too.

Bottom Line - I enjoyed this book and shared it with my partner. She's not as easy to please (in a literary sense) as I am, but she loved it too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Story, Not the best writing, March 18, 2011

I was quite drawn to the storyline but the writing was difficult to get through, particularly in the beginning of the book. Once the story got off the ground, though, I was very engaged. The author has tremendous upside potential. The characters were really interesting, if underdeveloped. I wanted to, for example, know much more about Hannah and what motivated her. It also wasn't clear to me why Kate, the main character, stayed with Hannah for as long as she did. In any event, I would read more from the author for sure.
