Very informative and well written! I will always Love Lucy!,
By Ronald Kevin Sowell (Plano, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Love, Lucy (Paperback)
I have been a major Lucille Ball fan for many, many years now. I read this book through with great interest. This is Lucy's story as she recorded it many years ago. It details her childhood, and desires for becoming a star. It talks about most, if not every movie and television show that she did. There are some great stories about William Frawley and Vivian Vance, from I Love Lucy. It goes through her meeting Desi Arnaz, and their entire relationship. She covered the good as well as the bad. Of course, there are stories about their children as well. One of the most interesting facts that I noted when reading the book, was the fact that the names of Friends or important people from her past, were used as names of friends in I Love Lucy, the Lucy Desi Comedy Hour and I believe even some in The Lucy Show. One example is Lillian Appleby who was a former teacher, and another is Marion Strong, who was a good friend. As I read this book, I could hear Lucy's voice coming through the pages. If you are a true Lucy fan, you should read this book!

Lucy lives forever!,
This review is from: Love, Lucy (Paperback)
I loved this book! Ever since I saw my first episode of I Love Lucy, I've been fascinated with Lucille Ball. I just had to know more about her. I found "Love, Lucy" in a store one day and I begged my mom to buy it for me. Well, she did, and I loved every minute of reading it. It's like she's talking one-on-one with you in a way. In "Love, Lucy", Lucy talks about her marriages, her children, her family, and her work. Although alot of details are left out (mainly because she didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings), the descriptions of the events in her life are amazing. My mother couldn't pry me away from reading this book with a crowbar, and she still can't whenever I re-read it. I was also overcome with emotion at some points in reading this wonderful memoir. The way she talked about her love for Desi Arnaz was so touching. I've never heard anything like it before. I started to sob a little when Lucy described the day she filed for divorce from Desi, and I'm not a big crier. It was so sad that everything happened the way it did, and that they couldn't work things out. I'm glad that she found happiness in her second marriage, though. I was also stunned when I learned that Lucy had hidden this for over thirty years until her children found it in with some old files about four years ago. Imagine writing something like this that you know everyone in the world is dying to read and then putting it away! Well, in a way I respect Lucy's decision, because I wouldn't want to hurt the feelings of any loved ones that were still alive that I had talked about. And sometime soon I am going to get a copy of "A Book", by Desi Arnaz, because after all there are two sides to every story. Before I go, I want to thank Lucy's children, Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr., for letting their mother's millions of fans take a peek inside of her private world. The book could have been easily just tucked back into the files and forgotten about. Taking it out and publishing it was great idea, and I know that no matter what, I'll always love Lucy.

Finally, the comic genius in her OWN words,
This review is from: Love, Lucy (Paperback)
and not in the twisted, fabricated words of someone else. This is the ONLY autobiography Lucille Ball ever wrote, so it is a real treasure. From the minute you open the book till the time you close it, you hear Lucy's voice guiding you through her life. When you start to read it, after a few moments, your voice just sort of drowns out and Lucy's voice takes over. Relive with her her happiness and heartache, her loves and hates, her triumphs and failures. I actually felt her love for her kids and Desi. It just came shining through. The hardest part of reading this book is putting it down after you're done and realizing that that the voice you just heard is truly silent forever. But you can hear that wonderful voice anytime you please simply by just opening this heartfelt, extremely moving and touching look at Lucy's life as she saw it. She doesn't give very many details, simply for fear of hurting certain people who were still alive and whom she still cared for, but she gives enough to paint you a really good picture. I can see why Lucy would've wanted to abandon this great book, because she didn't want to hurt anyone, but I'm so glad it was finally found. Even though Lucy's body isn't here any more, you can see her in her prime whenever you feel like a laugh just by turning on the TV, and reading her own words and feelings in this book. Finally, here is a book about her without all the lies and gossip. This is the total truth, but she was never cruel or mean. She was tactful in her choice of words. This book is a must read, if not must have, for any Lucy fan.

Very moving.......Lucy lives on forever,
By Lucy's #1 fan! (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Love, Lucy (Paperback)
WOW! I have never read such a good book. I own this book, and I read almost everyday. It is one of the most moving books I have ever read. Lucy's voice comes through loud and clear; you feel as though she were talking to you personally. It is a facinating account of a legend's restless childhood in Celeron, New York, her job modeling at Hattie Carnegie's, her move to Hollywood to make her dreams come true, her tempestuous but extremely passionate marraige to Desi Arnaz, her incredible I Love Lucy success, the crumble of her marraige and their Desilu empire, and her life after I Love Lucy and after Desi. This book is so intense, I actually cried. It was obvious that even after she and Desi divorced and she married Gary Morton, he was still her one true love and they still loved eachother very much. This is the one and only memoir Lucille Ball left for her adoring fans, so if you ever get the chance to read this book, take it! It's amazing how vividly Lucy recalls her whole life up to 1964. I am so glad this book was finally found in 1996. Here is Lucy's story, the REAL story, in her own words.

A "Politically Correct" Autobiography,
By A Customer
This review is from: Love, Lucy (Paperback)
I read Lucille Ball's autobiography "Love, Lucy" and was impressed by the wealth of detail. It was so wonderful to get to finally see how Lucille Ball looked at life. And it was also inspiring to see the amount of work that Ball had to put in to attain super-stardom. But, as with many autobiographies, you need to take this work with a grain of salt. Ball obviously wasn't interested in making herself (or anyone else, for that matter,) look bad. She deliberately sidesteps issues regarding husband Desi Arnaz's marital fidelty, and she also downplays her own jealous and controlling nature. So if you want to read a very "politically correct" version of Lucy's life, I suggest you read this autobiography. But if you want to read the hard facts, I suggest you look elsewhere.

Lucy the Lady with no "splan'n to do",
By Abby E. Gale "just me" (Illinois, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Love, Lucy (Paperback)
I truly enjoyed this book, as did my 88 year old grandmother and 66 year old aunt. Lucy has always been like a favorite family member. This book makes you feel like she is speaking in her own words and we are so glad her family decided to publish it. Contrasted againsted The Book by Desi Arnez, made it even more interesting. This book gave personal insight to the struggles Lucy faced in her childhood, an endurance driven by the need to be loved, and her strong work ethic. Far less juicy and business detail oriented than The Book, it mirrors the same respect and love Lucy and Desi shared even after they divorced. Lucy was a true lady. It did not take much reading between the lines to see she was mindful of Desi's feelings and privacy while telling her story.

her voice comes through, warm and genuine,
By Karen Sampson Hudson "Karen Sampson Hudson" (Reno, NV United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Love, Lucy (Paperback)
I am delighted by "Love, Lucy", the autobiography Lucille Ball began decades ago but then abandoned, perhaps because it was too painful, perhaps because she thought it would hurt Desi. Growing up in the 50s and seeing Lucy and Desi weekly on tv, I knew they had the "real thing". Their true love came through clearly to me and reminded me of my own parents' and my close aunt and uncle's relationships. Although their marriage did not survive their cultural differences and Desi's infidelities, everyone who knew them say they loved each other to their last days.In "Love, Lucy", the beloved redhead's voice speaks in a warm, genuine fashion to makes the readers feel as if they were spending a summer afternoon by the pool with Lucille Ball. Here is the story of her early days in upstate New York, her career struggles as a young actress longing to be the romantic lead in "A" pictures, her finding a niche at last---and what a niche!--as America's most beloved female comedienne. She writes of the great joy she and Desi shared when, after long years, they were blessed with a daughter and a son. Like all of us, Lucy was only human and had her flaws, but in this book, her best side shines bright with generosity, talent, grace, and love.

One of the Best Books I have ever read,
By
This review is from: Love, Lucy (Paperback)
I am not a big reader but I love biographies of the stars. I love to see where they came from and how far they have gone. Lucy has been one of my all time favorite comedians. I have watched every I Love Lucy show up until she went off the air in the 70's and then watch in syndication. When I bought this book, I did not put it down until I was finished with it. I remember I was in New York on business when I started it and finished it that night. Then went out the next day trying to find the places she lived. Literally.... I highly recommend it for any and all Lucy lovers. It's a great book.

Love, Lucy by Your Favorite... Lucille Ball,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Love, Lucy (Paperback)
There are so many books out there that try to tell the story of Lucille Ball's life. But what book could better tell the story of Lucy's life better than Lucy herself?! This bbok is absolutely fabulous! Lucy not only gives you a journal of her life - when she made movies and shows and what they were about - but, because she is looking back on her life, she tells you what she thought of her life and how she thought it would be handled better. Kind of like her "secrets to life". Though the book goes only from her birth in 1911to around 1970, Lucy really details her life to what the public would like to know including her marriages to Desi Arnez and Gary Morton, her childhood and her life away from making the people of America (and all over the world) laugh, at her homes in Beverly Hills, Palm Springs and a ranch in Chatsworth. She also tells about her relationships to other stars and how they used to hang around each other and have fun together.
This book is truely a great book that any person remotely interested in Lucille's life will enjoy. You can believe every word of it as you can her Lucy's voice through it all! I read the book three times straight through and sometimes, when I'm board, I pick up in the middle and enjoy it for hours. You will love this book!

i luv lucy,
This review is from: Love, Lucy (Paperback)
This is one of the very best books about Lucille Ball. And why is that? Because it was written by Lucy herself! The book is very interesting and describes her career and personal life. I recommend it to anyone that enjoys reading celebrity biographies, or anyone that is a sitcom fan; after all Lucy invented the sitcom!
