5.0 out of 5 stars A screw-ball comedy about Lucy's trip to California., August 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: I Love Lucy's Zany Road Trip - California Here We Come! (Part 1 of 2: 3 Tapes)[VHS] (VHS Tape)
These three tapes are filled with excitement and laughs. In these videos you get to watch Lucy and Ricky Ricardo take a road trip to California. Before the Ricardos leave they have many things to consider, like whether they should take the bus, train, or plane and other major details. While they are thinking about these issues Ethel and Fred get invinted to join them on this trip. While they are on the road they have many adventures going through Tennessee and New Mexico. Then, the group finally reaches Los Angeles. When they reach L.A. the funny experiences keep on coming. I have watched these tapes a million times over and I know any fan of the I Love Lucy show will enjoy watching these fourteen episodes.

These three videos are filled with lots of laughs, seeing Lucy and Ricky Ricardo travel with their good friends Ethel and Fred to California. There are many funny stops along the way. They even get arrested on the way there. When the group finally reaches California the trip of laughs does not stop until the video tape stops rolling.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Box Set I Have !, December 1, 2000
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: I Love Lucy's Zany Road Trip - California Here We Come! (Part 1 of 2: 3 Tapes)[VHS] (VHS Tape)
Being 42 years old I have had my dose of I Love Lucy on tv while growing up. This set is about the Ricardos' and Mertzs' complete trip together to Hollywood where Ricky is on contract to do a film. There are special appearances of John Wayne, William Holden, Harpo Marx, and others. A great episode where Lucy masterminds a bungled attempt to safely bring back to New York, John Waynes' shoe imprint slab from the walk of stars. This has John Wayne starring in this episode and Lucy caught red handed. The clarity of the episodes are excellent quality. Hats-off! to Twentieth Century Fox and CBS for their quality attention in producing such a clear set, and of course thanks to the late Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Vivian Vance, and William Frawley. I noticed that this set is now discontinued from production. This set is part one of a two part set for the entire road trip. I encourage the set to be produced again on video to give others the opportunity to enjoy it. And of course buy Part 2 if these sets are available again. I highly recommend these two sets. Clean family comedy at its best. You will watch it time after time. It is like being with a second family.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE FIRST HALF OF THE BEST EPISODES OF TELEVISION HISTORY, April 19, 2000

This review is from: I Love Lucy's Zany Road Trip - California Here We Come! (Part 1 of 2: 3 Tapes)[VHS] (VHS Tape)
I Love Lucy is arguably the best sitcom ever created. It's timeless. Kids today watch it on Nick at Nite as do people who grew up with it. My personal favorite group of episodes is Lucy's Zany Road Trip : California, Here We Come. I have been obsessed with Hollywood and the movie bussness for a long time. In these episodes, Lucy, Ricki, Fred, and Ethel travel to Hollywood, California. It all starts when Ricki gets his contract, they get the car, Lucy tries to drive it, and at last, they leave. They go to Ethel's home town, to a run-down diner, and to a horrible cabin to stay in. Lucy spills soup on William Holden at the Brown Derby, and is in a fasion show in Hollywood. As I've said, this stuff is timeless! I Love Lucy defines great T.V. JUST REMEMBER: You can't get this collection without part two!

5.0 out of 5 stars The California Episodes = The Best I Love Lucy Season!, October 17, 2003
By
David Von Pein (Mooresville, Indiana; USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Love Lucy's Zany Road Trip - California Here We Come! (Part 1 of 2: 3 Tapes)[VHS] (VHS Tape)
This three-tape set is Part 1 (of 2) of "I Love Lucy's Zany Road Trip" to California (1954-1955).

This '54-'55 season of I Love Lucy is by far my favorite. Many funny moments await Lucy and Company in sunny southern California, as well as on the road en route to the Golden State.

This collection includes 14 episodes, beginning with the gang still in New York, in "Ricky's Contract". Many all-time Lucy Classics are contained in this three-cassette package, such as the hysterical episode with William Holden ("L.A. At Last"), which originally aired on network television on February 7, 1955.

There's also the episode where Fred buys the ancient Cadillac, which sparks some of the funniest moments of the whole series. "Lucy Gets In Pictures", "The Hedda Hopper Story", and "Tennessee Bound" are also among the episodes included here.

And perhaps the funniest of the lot is "First Stop". That episode has the clan spending a brutal night at a rickety motel on their way out west. The "bed that moves by itself" as the train approaches is a riot!

The video quality of this set (as well as the follow-up set) is excellent, especially when factoring in the age of these programs and the fact they're on the VHS format here. Very clear picture throughout all these episodes. Good sound too. The back of the packaging indicates: "Pristine film-to-tape transfers from the original 35mm prints". Good enough for me!

If you're able to still locate this fast-disappearing set of I Love Lucy videos, grab onto it with both hands and don't let go! (Then go hunt for "Part 2".) :)

5.0 out of 5 stars CLASSIC FUN, January 19, 2000
This review is from: I Love Lucy's Zany Road Trip - California Here We Come! (Part 1 of 2: 3 Tapes)[VHS] (VHS Tape)
If you love Lucy like I do, you'll be absolutely delighted with this terrific three video set! FIRST STOP is a seemingly "sleeper" episode in which the gang gets stuck staying in a run-down hovel which is practically on the railroad! The scene in the diner is priceless and I love the scene where Ethel explains her routine of fixing the "hole in the mattress" in order for her and Fred to sleep without falling into one another; she did it every night for 25 years! (as a kid vacationing in Crater Lake, Oregon, my parents (my brother and I had a bunk) had an identical situation in a run-down cabin - I used this episode as a reference for my parents problem - and it actually worked!!) Ethel also cracks me up when she emerges from the bathroom after the train has passed with her face smeared with toothpaste; this explains just PART of ONE episode! These classic shows are simply terrific fun for anyone to enjoy from the ages of 5 to 105!
