Book Description

September 28, 2010

New York Times bestselling author Jenny McCarthy gave you the unfiltered ups and downs of pregnancy, motherhood, and marriage in Belly Laughs, Baby Laughs, and Life Laughs. Now the inveterate truth teller gets to the down-and-(sometimes) dirty essence of every man/woman relationship: love and sex.

Meet Tony, Jenny’s first love, the boy of her teenage dreams, and Tubby, her dirty, sexy stuffed teddy bear. Follow Jenny on a whirlwind tour of the world of aphrodisiacs and fetishes, as she explains the importance of playing doctor and other nice and naughty fantasies. Jenny is at her hilarious, no-holds-barred best in Love, Lust & Faking It, sharing stories of her outrageous true exploits—from Playboy centerfold to nightmarish bargain boob job to meeting Brad Pitt—all the while reminding us to always aim higher, be kind to ourselves, believe in true love...and to have lots of fun and sex, without faking it.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Comedienne McCarthy, who has written more serious books on raising a child with autism in recent years, returns to lighter fare in this fun and funny guide to dating and relationships. McCarthy tackles everything from first loves to STDs, boob jobs to bootie calls, masturbation to abusive relationships. Some chapters are just for laughs, like when McCarthy recounts suiting up in a trash bag to help a roommate confirm she has come down with crabs, while others are more serious in tone, such as when McCarthy interviews author Byron Katie about living a fulfilling life or details the warning signs of an abusive relationship. She shares some personal anecdotes as well, from her experience the first time she posed for Playboy to dating a man who reminded her of a Teletubby because she thought he’d treat her well. Even those who wouldn’t usually pick up a relationship-advice book will find plenty to enjoy in this laugh-out-loud guide to the pitfalls of modern dating. --Kristine Huntley

1.0 out of 5 stars I want my money back October 6, 2010
By Andrea

As a fan of Jenny McCarthy, I'm sorry to say that this book is awful. I have read her other books and enjoyed them, but this one felt like she was just trying to get anything on paper to get a paycheck. It is completely random, from astrology to an entire chapter that ends "just kidding, that never happened". It was seriously bad and I wish I didn't buy it on my Kindle so that I could get my money back. Not funny, not entertaining, not worth 11.99 for sure!! I only finished the book (because I couldn't return it mainly, but also) in the hope that it was going to get better and I was left disappointed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Oh Jenny.... October 12, 2010
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
As a fan of Jenny's other books, I absolutely couldn not WAIT for this one to come out. Reading her other "Naked Truth About...." books were seriously like having a conversation with your best friend. They made me laugh (hard and often) and made me cry because during that time, it was nice to know someone else had experienced what I was experiencing. I felt like she personally wrote those books for me! Not so with "Love, Lust and Faking It". Several chapters were boring 'interviews' with people she though were relevent to whatever she was talking about which Im STILL not sure that was. One WHOLE chapter was astrological signs that she got from a website. I also noticed she said "some websites say this" or "I read this on a website". I was also annoyed with the name dropping. There were some sections that sounded like advertisments for the people she was speaking to or about. ANNOYING. I finished the book in a little under two hours mostly because I skipped these filler chapters, hoping for something funnier and insightful like her previous books. The entire book felt to me like she was just throwing stuff together and hoping people bought it. I am so SO disappointed with this book and I'm sorry I spent money on it. Hopfully your next one is better, Jenny.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as expected October 6, 2010
By Kellie
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am having a hard time understanding the few 5 star reviews. At first I was enjoying the book. The first few chapters were kinda funny but then the entire book became fact sheet from the internet. It is nothing but chapter after chapter of "Interviews" facts and stats from websites. There is a whole "Chapter" taken from the internet on "Astrological Signs". Next there is a entire section deticated to "Sex facts" Again, info she took from another source to fill paper. Then there is a entire section for "Songs to do the nasty too". There is no funny banter about the songs, just lists of song titles. There is very little to read in this book and I was so sad. I was sucked in by all the Hype and the fact that I think Jenny is very smart and funny. But this book was neither. Jenny did very little talking or story telling of any kind. If you think you are going to learned about her and Jims break up, your wrong. If you think your going to learn almost anything funny about Jenny, your wrong. Chelsea Handler only raves about this book because they are friends. And the clip from the back of the book says it all..." Even though this book is not as funny as mine, you should still buy it" Chelsea Handler.

She is right, the book is no where enar as funny as Chelsea Handler's. Save your money. Buy it used.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun read
A light, fun read that isn't too pretentious or serious. Jenny is a breath of fresh air in an otherwise uptight world.
