Good single, even better B-side!, November 28, 2004
This review is from: Love Machine 2 (Audio CD)
Girls Aloud have been on a roll this year. Earlier this year, the electro-pop "The Show" captivated (or at least got the attention of) nonfans, and fans alike. Months later, they released "Love Machine" a concoction of retro, 60's style music blended with a pop sensibility.
Unlike their previous single, "The Show", which sounds like pop music from the future, "Love Machine" seems to have went back in time. With it's retro-60's style music, "Love Machine" is a catchy and infectious tune that can easily be stuck in people's heads.
That is not to say however, that it's for everybody. If you're looking for modern pop music with a sleek sound, then "Love Machine" isn't for you. However, it is for those who are looking for good pop music, that sounds like it went back in time. Or if you're looking for good pop music in general.
Gravitas' remixes haven't really impressed me. "Love Machine" is no exception. It takes a new twist on the song into a "disco" style, however, it doesn't do the song justice. It's not a club stomper however, the remix does give the song a different style after hearing the original so many times.
The real gem of the single is surprisingly, the b-side "Androgynous Girls." It has the sleek sensibility of "The Show" however, it still sounds retro and "groovy" like "Love Machine." It's catchy, infectious, and has warranted more plays than "Love Machine."
Included are the video, and the karaoke video in which you can sing along with the video on your PC.
Overall, it's a good single, and it's worth it mainly because of "Androgynous Girls" and this b-side isn't included on their full length album that is released on November 29th.

Love Machine is brilliant!, March 21, 2008
This review is from: Love Machine 2 (Audio CD)
For sure, "Love Machine" is my favourite Girls Aloud single. I mean, how can you not love it? The whole 60's rockabilly feel hadn't been done for awhile so the song sounded fresh and exciting.
This is CD2 of the single and it has one of the best single covers I've ever seen. How inventive and creative!
Rundown:
01. Love Machine [Album Version]
Ah, "Love Machine." How I love you. This is such a great song - fun, funky, upbeat with great guitar and a 60s feel. With vocals from all the girls (bar Sarah, she only gets two lines), this song is fast paced and fun. It only has two choruses and catchy "oh" bits in it. Absolutely weird lyrics, but it works. Absolutely great. (5/5)
02. Love Machine [Gravitas Disco Mix]
I don't like Gravitas mixes. I think out of all of GA's remixes, theirs are usually the weakest. They don't seem to add anything extra to the songs to make them special. It's just a dance remix - not disco at all, I don't think. But it's not bad really and isn't that hard to sit through. (3/5)
03. Androgynous Girls
GA are renowned for having great b-sides, sometimes better then their album tracks. This is no exception. Continuning on in the quirky 60s pop sound, "Androgynous Girls" is another song about nothing in particular. It has really strange lyrics but is still really catchy. This is a favourite of GA's fans and could have easily gone on the WWTNS? album. (5/5)
04. Love Machine [Video]
Of course, the CD2 features the video. "Love Machine" is one of my fave GA videos, it's so colourful and fun. The girls go to a club named 'The Eskimo Club' wearinbg different coloured dresses and just have some fun. There's loads of good close up shots of the girls and they do the famous Love Machine dance routine in the second chorus. I love it. (5/5)
Also featured is the karaoke video of "Love Machine" - just the music so you can sing along and a game.
Overall, this is a good value single with two fantastic songs. 5 stars.
