Book Description

December 18, 2007
Have you ever loved somone so much that no force on earth could change what you felt? Sasha Freeman thought she found that type of love, only to realize she had been snowed. Sasha lives in a perfect world, where her career, finances and social life are in order. But, something is missing, she is missing love. When she finally rekindles what she thought she had with Montel, it seems her luck has finally changed. Unfortunately, it hasn't, and she finds herself wrapped up in a web of deceit, lies and pain. As her life begins to crumble before her eyes, she wonders if she will find her way back, or be lost forever.

Snowed is a tale of good and not so good relationships, and what happens when you let a sometimes misleading heart control everything you sense. To be snowed you have to have put your whole heart into someone else and dispel the insecure and uncertain feelings because you are in love. That Person has you under their spell, and what you think is unconditional love is misguided and misdirected. Snowed is unreciprocated love, that can lead to self-destruction.

Will Sasha stay forever snowed and continue to make the same mistakes over and over again, when it comes to relationships or has she finally learned her lesson?

About the Author

Nishawnda Ellis was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. After, graduating from Boston Latin Academy with honors, she attended Hampton University in Hampton Virginia. There, she earned a bachelors of Science degree and went on to practice as a Registered Nurse. She left her "home by the sea" in Virginia and returned to Boston in May of 2000. Nonetheless, Nishawnda’s passion and imagination lead her to pursue another dream, writing. Juggling a full-time and part-time job, Nishawnda financed her life long goal of becoming a published author. Her debut novel, Snowed, A Lesson In Love, was inspired by a love letter written to herself, after reuniting with a past love, encouraging her to love herself more before she could love anyone else. Little did she know that letter would lead to the birth of her first, long awaited novel. Hence Snowed blossomed into a story of love, betrayal and finding one’s self-worth to love again. Nishawnda began writing Snowed, in the summer of 1999 while working full-time at Fidelity Investments as a customer service representative. After graduating from Hampton University, she finished the novel in the winter of 2000, and began to work as a Registered Nurse. With little experience in the publishing world and after submitting Snowed to one publisher with no reply, Nishawnda decided to self-publish. Creating her own publishing company, Kindle Eyes Books, Nishawnda finally accomplished her goal. Nishawnda currently resides in Quincy and continues to work as a Registered Nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital, caring for postpartum and newborn patients. She is also working on two upcoming novels, Wives and Girlfriends and Street Anthem and plans to attend graduate school to study journalism in the fall of 2004.

1.0 out of 5 stars And that's for effort, November 2, 2004

Snowed in my opinion should've been sent back to the author to be re-written. I really tried to get into the story, which was boring from page one, but the author failed to reel me in. Between the grade school phrases to the stupidity and the underdevelopment of the characters, every time I tried to read Snowed, I snored.

I met the author at HBF and after her sales pitch of Snowed and because I like to support African American authors, I feel like she mis-represented the book. It isn't hardly as juicy as she described it. I will be donating this to my local library but that isn't to say that I won't buy another book from this author. Everybody deserves a second chance. I just hope she has it together by then.

2.0 out of 5 stars Snowed..., June 26, 2004

Ever been so in love with someone that you couldn't see the truth even though it was staring you in the face? The main character in SNOWED: A LESSON IN LOVE should be the poster girl for this statement. Sasha Freeman is successful, attractive, intelligent (supposedly) and has no reason whatsoever to be a victim of being snowed. By being snowed, we mean a person who thought they had one thing, but found out that it was the exact opposite.

Despite problems in the past with the "love of her life," she finds herself caught up in the same drama with him, convinced that he is the one true love that she's destined to be with. Just when she thinks things are finally well, he's divorced his wife, and he truly loves her, she gets a call to appear on a television talk show. Convinced that someone from her past wants to proclaim their love for her, she agrees, and what results is something similar to what we see daily on talk shows. Will it be a Jerry Springer/Ricki Lake fiasco, or will she truly find what she's in search of in a man?

Coupled with Sasha's inability to find and keep a man are her girlfriends who are suffering with their own triumphs and then disappointments with the men in their lives. We witness a cast of dysfunctional women with relationship/men issues who just don't seem capable of moving ahead with their lives. Instead we see the "one step forward, two steps back" syndrome which quite personally annoyed the heck out of me. I felt as if I were re-reading passages when in essence it was the same cycle that was in the previous chapter and also the one before that, which left me with a been-there, done-that attitude. I felt nothing but pity towards the characters and found myself wanting to slip through the pages of the book and issue a few beatdowns.

Despite the aforementioned, as well as numerous typographical and structural issues with this book, I was able to pull out the lesson of the story which basically surrounds loving yourself first and foremost. It was sad to witness such self-hate in women who took forever (if at all) to come full circle into appreciation and love for oneself.

Those in love sometimes see what they want to see in relationships, but it just comes to a point when you have to know that you have indeed been snowed.

I thought the book was extremely well written and realistic. I was able to relate to a lot of the characters and situations. Very deep and emotional plots. Much success and love to Ms. Ellis. Can't wait for the next novel!!!
