And that's for effort,
By Angel (Hampton, VA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Snowed: A Lesson In Love (Paperback)
Snowed in my opinion should've been sent back to the author to be re-written. I really tried to get into the story, which was boring from page one, but the author failed to reel me in. Between the grade school phrases to the stupidity and the underdevelopment of the characters, every time I tried to read Snowed, I snored.I met the author at HBF and after her sales pitch of Snowed and because I like to support African American authors, I feel like she mis-represented the book. It isn't hardly as juicy as she described it. I will be donating this to my local library but that isn't to say that I won't buy another book from this author. Everybody deserves a second chance. I just hope she has it together by then.

Snowed...,
By The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers (RAWSISTAZ.com and BlackBookReviews.net) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Snowed: A Lesson In Love (Paperback)
Ever been so in love with someone that you couldn't see the truth even though it was staring you in the face? The main character in SNOWED: A LESSON IN LOVE should be the poster girl for this statement. Sasha Freeman is successful, attractive, intelligent (supposedly) and has no reason whatsoever to be a victim of being snowed. By being snowed, we mean a person who thought they had one thing, but found out that it was the exact opposite. Despite problems in the past with the "love of her life," she finds herself caught up in the same drama with him, convinced that he is the one true love that she's destined to be with. Just when she thinks things are finally well, he's divorced his wife, and he truly loves her, she gets a call to appear on a television talk show. Convinced that someone from her past wants to proclaim their love for her, she agrees, and what results is something similar to what we see daily on talk shows. Will it be a Jerry Springer/Ricki Lake fiasco, or will she truly find what she's in search of in a man? Coupled with Sasha's inability to find and keep a man are her girlfriends who are suffering with their own triumphs and then disappointments with the men in their lives. We witness a cast of dysfunctional women with relationship/men issues who just don't seem capable of moving ahead with their lives. Instead we see the "one step forward, two steps back" syndrome which quite personally annoyed the heck out of me. I felt as if I were re-reading passages when in essence it was the same cycle that was in the previous chapter and also the one before that, which left me with a been-there, done-that attitude. I felt nothing but pity towards the characters and found myself wanting to slip through the pages of the book and issue a few beatdowns. Despite the aforementioned, as well as numerous typographical and structural issues with this book, I was able to pull out the lesson of the story which basically surrounds loving yourself first and foremost. It was sad to witness such self-hate in women who took forever (if at all) to come full circle into appreciation and love for oneself. Those in love sometimes see what they want to see in relationships, but it just comes to a point when you have to know that you have indeed been snowed.

Love Thy Self,
By DeeJay "Book Lover" (Georgia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Love Me Not (Urban Renaissance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I ran across this book by accident but after reading the back cover decided I must read it. This is the first book by this author that I have read. Halfway through this one I ordered two other books by her. She's a good writer and the story was quick and flowed so easily. I only gave the book three stars because although I loved the story line I was disappointed in the story as a whole. I could not relate to any of the ladies, well maybe Lisa, but only to a certain point. Even with being in love, being hurt, starting over and trying again at love, I never lost sight of the fact that I am more important to "ME" than any man. These ladies seemed to place too much love and trust in their men, who from jump, didn't deserve either. I just could not fathom how these "Ladies" could be so snowed by the trifling ass men in this book. And the two male characters who were genuinely sincere and loved them got dogged out. It was a bit of a let down for me that they never got it together. I've been through some things, but I learned from each experience (good and bad). This book had so much potential but I found myself repeating over and over "Wake Up, Open Your Eyes, He's Playing You, Again!" I would have liked to see the story progress to the point where all the ladies found happiness, with or without a man. I did like the fact that as friends they were honest with each other even if the other friend(s) didn't want to hear it. If they had listened to each other, everyone would have had a happy ending, not just Lisa.

DECENT, not terrible nor great.,
By
This review is from: Love Me Not (Paperback)
This book was DECENT, it's about Sasha and her homegirls lives. Sasha's high school bf broke her heart, and when she was older they met again and she took him back. He still brings nothing but drama and confusion to her life but she can't stop loving him. There's other drama in this book too, but nothing sooo juicy that keeps you on the edge of your seat. At some points it was extremely boring and I felt like I had to force myself to read it. Overall DECENT read.

This review is from: Snowed: A Lesson In Love (Paperback)
I loved it! I could relate to the characters, and I swore that I was Tamieka :) I wish I had read it years ago and learned my lesson. The book had so many good points. It lets you know that we all fall short of loving ourselves first and at one time or another we lose ourselves. I think this author has alot of potential to grow and become a favorite among readers.

Sasha is off the hook!,
By Crystal (MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Snowed: A Lesson In Love (Paperback)
I found this book to be one of the most intersting books I have read this year. Sasha is without a doubt Snowed and can't seem to get herself together. She finally does though and learns her lesson in love, a valuable lesson at that we all should learn some day. I look forward to reading more from the author is the future.
