Blue Suede Shoes

Once upon a time, in a magic kingdom, there lived a handsome prince. Prince Charming, he was called by one and all. And to this land came a gentle princess, you could say she was Cinderella.

Magic kingdom? Okay, if you're going to be a stickler for accuracy, in this fairy tale the kingdom is Manhattan. But there's magic in the Big Apple, isn't there?

Prince Charming? Oh, Boy! You've heard the rumors, I suppose. So, he's Prince Not-So-Charming on occasion. So he drive an orange pick-up truck, not a pumpkin coach. Big deal! He is handsome.

A gentle princess? Picky, picky, picky! Who says a woman has to be so soft and fluffy all the time? Haven't you ever heard of a royal case of PMS?

Cinderella? Well, maybe she does wear blue suede shoes instead of glass slippers, but she looking for happily-ever after just the same. And I'm going to make sure she gets her prince and her castle, not some hound dog and Heartbreak Hotel.

—Elmer Presley, fairy godfather

Editorial Reviews

Review

Sandra Hill wants to reintroduce you to your childhood fairy tales, mainly Cinderella. This "Cindy", however, has a very modern turn. In fact, let's just say that you'll not only be reintroduced, but "Cindy" has a new image, a new "do", and a whole pile of 1990's hang-ups that will simply leave you gasping for air...with laughter, that is. Cynthia Sullivan, the lovely shark of Wall Street, is sporting a new fashion look. Unfortunately, this look won't be causing the stir that makes the magazine covers. It all started with that pair of blue suede heels she splurged for on her birthday. A corn of terrible proportions has claimed her life! Cynthia has lost her job, cannot make her exorbitant apartment payments, and her perfectly controlled world is now threatening to go down the tube. The object of her anger? Prince Perico Tomas de la Ferrama, the owner of the company that made the offensive shoe that is destroying her career. Of course, P.T. - as the Prince wants to be called by all his friends - is nothing if not amused by Cynthia's predicament. That is, until he hears the she wants part of his company as a settlement in her impending lawsuit against it. With the pressure on to make a good showing only a month prior to going public with Ferrama stock, P.T. is facing certain ruin if he allows her to move forward with her threat. Enter P.T.'s overbearing stepsisters and one very strange Elvis impersonator claiming to be Cindy and P.T.'s fairy godfather. Add a plot to kidnap Cynthia until her toes are all well and the evidence all gone. Mix in an additional marriage plot to prevent Cindy's treachery. Bake until the passion is so hot it does more than bounce back! The outcome is one rib-tickling, all-out madcap romance! Just up Sandra Hill's alley! Look out for those sensual non-touches and role-playing stage vamps. Sandra's wit goes into overdrive with Love Me Tender, and you'll never listen to another Elvis song quite the same way again. Cinderella on the New York stage with a Vegas twist. Hilariously provoking! Love Me Tender will blow you away with outrageous fantasy and delicious passion! Sandra Hill rocks! She rolls! Elvis is probably turning in his grave with laughter! Karen Ellington -- Copyright © 110198 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved -- From Literary Times

3.0 out of 5 stars Elvis meet Cinderella, August 6, 2002
This review is from: Love Me Tender (Leisure Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Sandra Hill has done it again. She has created some of the most memorible characters. Her books are never boring. They always have action, passion, heated arguments, and humor. I would recommend any and all of her books to everyone.

This one starts off when we meet, Prince"Charming" Perico Tomas de la Ferrama, aka P.T. as he is getting into character for his Princely role of owner of Ferrama Shoes. He has, with the help of his two best friends, created a highly sucessful company that is about to go public. He has taken his step-fathers old shoe company and turned into a multi-million dollar business. He spots a possible problem though in the body of a long legged beauty holding picket signs using crutches. He is breahless at the sight of her but when they actually meet he finds him self breathless from the punch she throws him. Cynthia Sullivan is known on Wallstreet as the Shark and when she is injured wearing Ferrama shoes she threatens a lawsuit unless they settle on her terms. Cynthia will not admit to anyone that P.T. has knoced her for a loop. She stands her ground which is the cause for her downfall. P.T. has two step-sisters that need the money that going public will give them and they are not about to let her interfear with those plans. They kidnapp her along with a Elvis wanna be named Elmer Presly. P.T. goes after her and finds hims self kidnapped as well. Soon Elmer, who claims to be thier fairy god-father, works his magic on the two of them and they can't keep thier hands of each other. The passion is so hot that they almost burn up. But below the surface of the passion lies love that both are fighting. Its a struggle to see who will win love or thier stubborn natures.

The secondary stories and secondary characters of this tale are fab and make this all the more enjoyable to read. You've don it again Sandra! Way to Go!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not her best, April 29, 2000
This review is from: Love Me Tender (Leisure Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
In some ways, this book was the Hill I know and love - humorous dialogue, sexy hero, sharp-tongued heroine. But in one very important way it was not Hill at all - the plot was too unbelievable.

Okay, okay, it's supposed to be a fairy tale. I could have bought that if she'd left it at that, but she went from unbelievable to ludicrous with some of the sideshow characters she threw in. (Elmer Prestley as a fairy godfather?) Yikes, Sandra, what were you thinking!

Sandra Hill is a hilarious writer. If you've never read her before, skip this one and start with another. Try "The Love Potion" for a contemporary, "The Last Viking" for a time travel, or "The Tarnished Lady" for a historical.

5.0 out of 5 stars barrels of laughs, December 31, 1998

Cynthia, "The Shark" meets P.T. "The Prince of Toad." A very handsome toad, mind you. Together they are combustible and hilarious. Sandra Hill has a way with words. Where did she get such talent? I say, more! More! If you are looking for a book that does not require you to think and analyze, then this is the book for you. Just sit back, relax and prepare to laugh you head off. And oh, make sure you have an apron handy....
