Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

If the gods of house music are smiling on Kaskade, they are likely also bickering over who among them was the first to discover him, such is the effect of his music. The San Francisco-based producer/DJ's 2004 spellbinder Steppin' Out introduced many to his trademark sound, one that plays lush, emotive vocals off spacey, underwater guitar tones. Love Mysterious, his third album (and first on Ultra Records), translates this sound into a more expansive, big-room context, as in the anthem "Be Still," with its heavily chorused vocals and dark, churning rhythm. Also notable is the album-opening "Stars Align," which has Marcus Bentley's vocal line--recalling at times Chris Martin of Coldplay--riding on beguiling, shape-shifting accompaniment. "All You," "Fake," and "Sometimes" flirt with electro, and the closer, "4am," comes off as blissed-out version of Smashing Pumpkins' "1979." As always, much of Kaskade's music happens below the surface, in subtleties of arrangement, dynamics, and timing, and his instinct for light and shade in composition gives his work a dimension and uncontrived positivity that places it far above much of the genre's offerings. Those interested in avoiding arguments with friends over who got into Kaskade first may wish to get acquainted now, and remember that before all else his music is like a moonflower: it blooms after dark. --Brent Kallmer

Product Description

San Francisco's Kaskade is considered one of the most exciting house music DJs in the country. This is his third album, and it presents a sound of greater dimension and big-room proportions. A shimmering collection of lush house tracks infused with his trademark vocal-laden melodies and addictive guitar interludes. Epitomizing the sultry sounds of San Francisco and reflective of Kaskade's growing acclaim and international popularity, this album is destined to take him to the next level.

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely his best, October 3, 2006
I was not a fan of Kaskade's slower songs from his last two albums. I understand that coming with Om, there is a certain lounginess that must be upkept, but it wasn't a facet of his music that I enjoyed. This album is a lot more like the song "Everything", while using some new elements he found between then and now. I really like "Be Still", "Stars Align", the quirky "All You", "Sorry"...in fact, there isn't much of the album I *don't* like.

I have one quibble. I work at a record store, and our stock had some sort of error that MAY be mirrored elsewhere. The tracklisting printed on the back did not match that which was on the disc itself. I had to play "match-up" by listening to my disc, and then to the labeled tracks on iTunes. Here is the tracklisting I have.

1. Stars Align
2. All You
3. Be Still
4. Distance
5. The X
6. Fake
7. Sometimes
8. In This Life
9. Sorry
10. Never Ending
11. 4am

Just in case anyone is listening to a song they don't quite think matches the title.

All in all I give this album a big, heavy B++

5.0 out of 5 stars Blew my pants off!, October 2, 2006

Excellent album. The best song is "Sorry". "Be Still" is another great track, they should of grabbed the extended version of "Be Still" from the CD Single on placed it on the album, that version blows everything away. Sorry OM Records, you should of kept Kaskade. :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Music, July 2, 2007
After Here and Now, I became a huge fan of Kaskade. This album was one of the greatest I heard yet. The first 4 tracks caught me by my seat, its awesome music to race by booming in your care sterio system. Track 1-4,10 and 11 are my favorites. Especially track 4 had this hard yet soft drum and bass beat with the most angelic, meaningful vocal and meaningful lyrics. If you are a music lover this album is a must have.

I'm a big Kaskade fan and this CD is probably the most consistent he has done. With the deep house synths and choruses he definitely steps it up in the anthemic department, and... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing

The gorgeous album cover only hints at the beauty found inside. This is essential for anyone who loves music. It is genre-defying. Kaskade just kills it on this one.
