Engrossing,Emotional,Informitive.........Dignified.,
This review is from: Love Never Sleeps: Living at Home with Alzheimer's (Paperback)
Mary Summer Rain & Sally's personel journey through the process of caring for Sally's terminally ill Mother at home was written with much honesty and integrity. It was a very emotional book, and I had to stop several times and cry. This book was very resourcful, and was written for caregivers of people afflicted with Alzhiemers.Although I can say from personal experience it applied to other terminal diseaces as well.Apparently not enough information was written for "caregivers"So Mary wrote about the different stages of this disease, and the various symptoms and behaviors associated with them based on examples from thier journey with Sally's Mom. This was done in a very dignified manor. With Much love and respect, yet didnt sugar coat it.People need to know the REALITY of what its like to live with and care for another with this affliction. This book is a wonderful giveaway and a gift of gold for someone living through this.

This is an excellent book. It came out right when my father was diagnosed with dementia and it has helped me SO much in dealing with him and his decline. This is one of the best books to read when you have a loved one with dementia.

Priceless Experience that can be a Great Benefit to All....,
By L. Palacio (China Grove, NC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Love Never Sleeps: Living at Home with Alzheimer's (Paperback)
Love Never Sleeps is informative, honest and written with wonderful real-life experiences from the caregiver perspective. As a caregiver myself, I've experienced very similar events while caring for my grandmother and I wish this book would have been out years ago. You can find reference books on Alzheimer's but this is one of the few that tells it like it is... and gives suggestions and ideas as to how to work with some of the issues that you may encounter. Living with Alzheimer's is unpredictable and this book shares the real-life side of some of the things you may experience. We have another family member with Alzheimer's at this time and out of all the material I've read from the onset of my grandmother's illness in 1998 to her death in 2000 as well as research to date, this is by far the most informative and helpful. Mary, Sally and Mary Belle have shared a priceless experience that can be a great benefit to all who are involved in anyway with an individual that is experiencing Alzheimer's. Wonderful toolkit and a must read for family and caregivers of Alzheimer's Patients.Kudos Mary, Sally and Mary Belle - Thank you for this enlightening work!!!

The Heart of Compassion,
This review is from: Love Never Sleeps: Living at Home with Alzheimer's (Paperback)
I found Mary Summer Rain's book a triumph. The level of perserverence and persistence evinced by Summer and Sally is astonishing. Ram Dass once said that in order to truly have compassion for living beings, we must be willing to look suffering in the face. I believe these ladies have done just that -- very nobly -- and Summer shares the experience in a very candid and articulate manner. I was surprised and impressed by the range of Summer's talent as a writer and spiritual seeker. I enjoyed all of her other books with their lush descriptions and rich analogies. This treatise was a different type of writing. The author was able to convey helpful psychological insights without sacrificing readability or the human dimension in the work. The book helped me better appreciate the struggles of those who support and care for elders who succumb to this heartbreaking condition. Summer Rain's level of tolerance taught me to put comparatively minor annoyances and hurdles into perspective. Karmically speaking, I believe Summer accumulated a lot of merit in her compassionate care of Mary Belle in the face of very trying circumstances.

a must read for all caregivers of alzheimer's victims,
This review is from: Love Never Sleeps: Living at Home with Alzheimer's (Paperback)
This should be required reading for every person who decides to care for another person diagnosed with alzheimers. I did not read it until after caring for a father-in-law with the dreaded illness, but it would have made the task much more understandable.

Great Book!!,
This review is from: Love Never Sleeps: Living at Home with Alzheimer's (Paperback)
"Love Never Sleeps" really hit the nail on the head. I feel very fortunate to have found this book early in the beginning of what I am finding will be a long journey. A lot of the signs and characteristics that Rain focuses on in this book are happening, almost word for word, right now with my grandmother. This book was a godsend to me, the resource/information person in the family, and also to another granddaughter, the in-home caregiver. Where I did feel hopeless, helpless and depressed, I now feel empowered and helpful. It is a well-written story that focuses on each characteristic of AD, and gives examples and solutions to each. Thanks to Mary Summer Rain and Mary Belle for an insightful look at what's happening now and what will happen in the future.

I'm about 1/2 way through the book. It has been quite revealing insofar as it shares much of what a family goes through with Alzheimers that the rest of us never really know or appreciate. I've learned a lot and I think this knowledge will help me deal with family members better. The only negative thing I have to say is that it seems to show a bit much that there was some resentment towards other family members regarding the care of the mother. I'm not sure that belongs in the book (jury is still out.) It is well written and flows in a natural way. I'm enjoying it.

A Must Have,

This is a must have book if you or any family member
is dealing with a loved one having Alzheimer's. Mary and Sally have shown what it is like to live and care for a loved one with Alzheimer's. I have ordered several copies for friends who are being caregivers as well as for myself. I have had so many comments on how well this book has helped them deal with issues they are facing and are going through, as well as some insights on how to deal with it. Thank you so much Mary and Sally for sharing your life experience with us through this book, and the graciousness that Sally's mother allowed to have this recorded and pulblished. Love you both.
