Best pure rock & roll records in years. Simply put, Wendy Case writes great, catchy songs and the band rocks them into the ground. This is a massively great album that would induce the Pope to jump around like a fool playing air guitar. If you like three chords, attitude, hooks and guitar solos, get this - you won't be disappointed. Amazing!

Straight-banging rock and roll! Every song on this album gets right to heart of what rock and roll is all about. Driving guitars and the best rock vocals anywhere. The Paybacks are the anti-rock opera. Songs about unrequited love and love lost seem fresh and vital when spun by Wendy Case and crew. If sythesizer and layered harmonies are your thing don't buy this album. But if you want rock and roll stipped to its basic elements, this is the record for you. A truly great rock and roll album.

THe PAYBACKS cd LOVE NOT REASON, touches on the real elements of rock and roll - RAW..LOUD..but most of all..REAL...Some of the best music I've heard in A LONG TIME .!

The Paybacks new album rocks from beginning to end but also shows a greater musical sophistication than their brilliant second album Harder And Harder. There are a couple of softer songs and longer guitar solos than on previous albums but with no letdown on the heartfelt emotion. Wendy Case's songwriting and whiskey soaked voice just keep getting better. If you like emotional, raw guitar driven rock and bloody roll then you'll love this album. Wendy and her men have done it again.

In a just world..the Paybacks would be massive stars! The real thing has always come from Detroit..and the Paybacks carry the torch quite nicely! Wendy Case sings with one of those "gargling with broken glass" voices that just "fits"...and Danny Methric (who does double duty with his Bluesrock band the Muggs) blasts out the catchy riffs as only a true Detroiter could. An air tight rhythm section and much improved songwriting make this a 5 star disc you must own! Play it loud!

I recently discovered this album and was blown away. Lead singer Wendy Case has an iconic voice, and the guitars rock without sounding over-produced. Why is Vampire Weekend more famous than The Paybacks? I don't know, but The Paybacks are much better than a lot of other bands out there.
