How do you cope when the people you care for hurt you the most? When the way you feel on the outside, smothers you on the inside. And when you are left to face your demons alone, will you learn that only you have the power to overcome them?

Charlie has never had it easy. Between the constant moving and the incessant fat comments and jokes from her father, her self-worth is nonexistent. Her reflection in the mirror shows her nothing but a plain Jane. Music is the only thing that keeps her sanity in check.

Charlie catches the eye of the town star quarterback, Maverick. With her curves, her brunette hair, and the voice of an angel, Maverick has never met anyone like her. Everything that is different about Charlie just makes Maverick like her more. Unfortunately, Charlie doesn’t see it herself.

Proving it to her may deem harder than he thinks, especially when tragedy strikes and tears them apart.

Now standing on her own two feet she may finally learn exactly who she is, what’s she’s capable of and how very un plain Jane she really is.
Love Notes is #1 in the series and has a happily ever after
Heartstrings is #2

Editorial Reviews

Review

Love Notes is a touching YA story about developing a sense of self worth that I just loved. A beautiful first effort from Gunter. 4.5 stars from Tami-Into the Night Reviews

OMG there are no words that can accurately express Love Notes by Heather Gunter. She has transcended the heart, emotions, of one girl and the lives she has touched without even knowing it.
5 stars, Lisa Markson

OMG! This book is so powerful! It made me laugh, cry, scream and yell, and even want to kick something at one point. 5 stars-Erin Danzer

Really loved this story!!
This one hit very close to home and I hope a lot of people will read this book so they will maybe understand better that it is not easy for somebody to openly communicate about verbal abuse.
5 stars-Tamara

2.0 out of 5 stars Reads like a decent fanfic. May 29, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I liked the description of the story - I really wanted to like this. I just don't think that it was properly fleshed out or explored - it reads like a halfway decent fanfic where you already know the world and the characters, hence two stars instead of one.

The main characters all had instant relationships, hardcore ones, and everyone is perfect but two people. In addition, some of the dialogue was so stilted that it actually threw me out of the story.

The author would do well to have an editor look over further books - that'd help a lot with some of the dialogue and misspelled words and strange situations.

I don't like posting negative reviews on amazon, but this book has so many 4, 5 star reviews that I felt the need to present another view.

x-posted on Goodreads.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet, sad, awesome May 4, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Love notes by Heather Gunter

I don't know how I can describe this book other than to say its amazing....The writer created a story that will make you cry, extremely pissed off, and giggly happy.

I absolutely love Charlie and Maverick's characters. Charlie has a tough life she is verbally abused by her father and ignored by her mother. Her father seems to hate her but Charlie doesn't understand why. Charlie lives a life of sadness, of self loathing, and Loneliness When a sexy guy pays her attention and calls her gorgeous and loves her she can't come to terms with it, she doesn't believe it.

Maverick is the captain of the football team, sexy as sin and wanted by every girl in the school. He has the most loving parents and has friends galore. But all he wants is Charlie. He thinks she's perfect, beautiful, sweet and amazing.

The author writes a touching story of a beautiful, caring girl who thinks the worst of herself, she thinks she's fat and ugly and never had anyone in her life to tell her different. I felt for Charlie from the beginning. I wanted to be her BFF, I wanted to tell her how beautiful and wonderful she is. I loved that Tori took her under her wing. Tori is a best friend that everyone needs. She made Charlie feel wanted, and cared for and was always there to catch her when she falls. I had a great friend in high school like that and I tell you it makes life better. I enjoyed the relationship between Charlie and Maverick , from the first hello, to the first kiss, to the I loves you then to the pushing each other away. This story has it all. This author is a amazing writer and will go far. I have to give it a 5 star but love to give it more...can't wait for book 2.....

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet May 5, 2013
By Abi
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The author did a good job telling the story from Charlie's point of view and how she grew through Maverick and friends. I was looking forward to this book but was a bit disappointed how it ended, I have to say I am a bit tired of over 90 percent of the books now having a sequel and if I know this ahead of time I do not buy them until the follow on, and the response it receives. I feel the story could have been told in one book with the sequel being about another couple. I think the author is very talented and I look forward to many more stories from her.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly inspiring! May 3, 2013
By Amanda
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I've known Heather for a very long time and was thrilled to find out she was writing a book. I could not wait for Love Notes to come out and I was really nervous for her too. Putting a story out there is completely nerve wracking and can play on your insecurities. I read LN in 6 hours and truly wanted more when I was finished. As an adult, reading YA books can go either way for me but LN had me really thinking about things.

It's a story of a girl named Charlie who has had a lifetime of being verbally abused and has left her a shell of a person. She has never had a boyfriend or even a best friend before and believed she did not deserve either. That all changes for her in her senior year of high school when she meets Maverick, the star of the school! He is an amazing guy with a lot of depth to him. She also meets Tori and between the two they help her to believe in herself and to stop believing the lies she has been fed all her life.

I love how Heather developed Charlie and I had much more respect for the book because of it.

I can't wait for the next book and to hear all about Tori :)

This book was so full of emotions for me - I laughed, cried, was disgusted with other characters, and extremely proud of Charlie. The topic of this book is so appropriate in today's society with all the bullying happening, it hurts even more when it is done by people who should love someone unconditionally. 'Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me' is so untrue and words heard over and over again can be more hurtful than physical pain. The healing of Charlie took time and between Maverick and Tori, would not have happened. This book should be read by everyone! Can't wait for book 2 with Tori and Will.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful story! May 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am not a reader...in general I dislike reading. I went to school with Heather, have been following her book writing journey through Facebook and I was curious. Once it was released I found it on Amazon and read the preview given. I read the first three chapters without putting it down and realized that I had to purchase it. I finished the entire book in just two days! The story is heartfelt, emotional, and beautiful; the characters are very relatable. Thank you for a great read and I am anxiously awaiting the next book!
