The Love of Cooking: 4th of July (Love of Cooking Holiday Series) cookbook was a joy to read as the book is neatly formatted with a linkable table of contents. Also, the writing and recipes are excellent and I look forward to reading and using this cookbook. Adding to the book's ambiance is helpful Mag's Fav flag telling of the author's favorites recipes.

Some of the recipes you will find in this cookbook include:

Easy Pulled Pork Mag's Fav
Aunt Sharon's Mac and Cheese
Stuffed Burgers
Candy Filled Brownies

Recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a Star-Spangled Cookbook! June 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This 4th of July cookbook is great for the holiday weekend and great for entertaining all summer long. I'm tired of making the same old recipes & that's I love this Love of Cooking series - classic foods with fresh recipes! Love the recipes for sparklers and can't wait to try out the broccoli and raisin salad - so different and sounds really yummy! This star-spangled cookbook is a keeper!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Spiced Tea Punch was fantastic! June 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
A 4th of July party in a book! If you are planning a 4th of July get-together with family and friends (or Canada Day for us Canadians!), this cookbook has the menu all planned out for you. I tried the Spiced Tea Punch last weekend, and it was really good. As it simmered on the stove, my house smelled fantastic! Lots of interesting ideas in this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat underwhelming. June 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There is a total of 25 recipes including Snacks & Drinks, Salads & Sides, Main Dishes and Desserts. The formatting is nice - I especially like the "return to table of contents" link on each recipe. SCORE! Unfortunately, most of the recipes are pretty simple, high in sugar, low on spices.

The Zesty Grilled Chicken is simply boneless, skinless chicken breasts and a bottle of Italian Dressing. The recipe has been featured in Kraft advertising for at least 20 years.

The Kickin' Party Mix sounds horrid. Oyster crackers, Cheez-Its, roasted peanuts and pretzels mixed with two packages of ranch dressing mix and two cups of canola oil, then left to soak up the oil for two and a half hours.

Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies calls for margarine, as do Candy-Filled Brownies. Apparently they didn't get the memo about the margarine.

The Easy Pulled Pork and the Joann's Brisket sound interesting. I'm pretty picky about both of those things, and I smoke them which is a very time-consuming job. However, the authors make the point that both of these dishes can be cooked ahead of time, the pork in a slow-cooker and the brisket in the oven, and won't take up room on the grill when it is needed for other things. I can see how helpful that would be for a large gathering.

The Peach Cobbler recipe called for two cups of fresh peaches, and a total of two cups of sugar. To me that sounds like an awful lot of sugar for that dessert.

The Spiced Tea Punch sounds pretty good, and the Red, White & Bleu Chip Dip sounds delicious.

There are no pictures and no nutritional information but most of the recipes have reasonably clear instructions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Recipes for the 4th of July June 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Maggie Brooks has done it again. These recipes are just awesome. I happen to live in Canada where we celebrate our national day on July 1st, so I'll be preparing them then instead of the 4th, but it makes no difference what day you use these recipes on, they are all excellent for any day of the week.

I have already made the Broccoli and Raisin Salad and it was delicious. I was looking for a good recipe to use broccoli in salad and this one is simple, easy and best of all it tastes great. I will certainly be making it again, not just for July 1st!

Then I spotted a recipe for peach cobbler and realized I hadn't made one of those for years so decided to try out Maggie's version. It was superb. My husband thought he'd died and gone to heaven eating it. And he reminded me that I shouldn't wait so long before making one again. I can highly recommend that recipe for sure.

All Maggie's recipes are excellent. She puts such care into developing her books and recipes and I have tried many of them and they have all been great recpies. They are easy to make and delicious to eat...now that's a winning combination.

If you want to have a great 4th of July celebration, get this book. If you just like good recipes then it's a great book to own.

With lots of cookbooks in the store, I wondered what is new that I would get from Magies book. Well, I was up for a suprise. I kuick scan through the book revealed that I was in possession of a book that is filled with dozens of mouth watering recipes. So I had to sit down and give the book the time it deserves.

The recipes are well presented in a well formatted and structured format. Today I just tried out three of the recipes and the whole table was full of praises for my cooking. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to read this book and prepare a great diet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Holiday Recipes June 23, 2012

Every time Maggie Brooks publishes a new book, I grab it. The reason I grab it is because her recipes are not the same old same old ones that you find in a lot of cookbooks. They are refreshingly original and I know that my family will be wowed by the results when I try something new. Stuffed Burgers are on the menu for this weekend and I know we'll love them.
