Editorial Reviews

Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the latest release on their front-line label, ESOTERIC ANTENNA, dedicated to new releases by both new acts and established artists. Love and Other Mysteries by KEN HENSLEY is the result of three years spent in the studio, crafting an intensely personal album. Known by many from his days as a writer and member of URIAH HEEP, the writer of such classics as Lady in Black and July Morning has created his deepest work to date.Love and Other Mysteries sees Ken joined by guest vocalists including Glenn Hughes, Santra Salkova, Sarah Rope, Irene Forniciari & Roberto Tiranti All of whom compliment a record that is fulfilling and sincere in its message

First and foremost- I am a huge Ken Hensley,Uriah Heep fan. With that said here is my review of L&OM cd, the newest release from Ken. The cd has 10 songs, but to my ear they was just average Ken Hensley. The cd sounded like he borrowed a lot from Blood on the Highway but added a heavy dose of easy listening country twang to each song. All but 1 song(track 10) sounded the same to my ear.For me the stand out track was Romance, but again it sounded like a track fom the Blood cd(which I loved). The artwork is cool.If your expecting good ole rock n roll like Kens Faster cd or Blood cd, you might want to skip this one. But if your a completest like me, then buy the cd and enjoy......support your favorite artists......

Let me start by saying that I am a huge Uriah Heep fanatic and have been a big fan of Ken's from way back in the days when he was in Heep. I have listened to his stuff over the years and have felt that some was great, some was not so great. Just because I am a fan does not mean that I am automatically going to love anything he puts out. With that being said, I would have to say that this album just absolutely blows hard, and makes me sick really. About 90% of what you get here is commercial MOR ballad dreck. On top of the dismal songwriting, the male and female guest vocals are annoying, with Glen Hughes possibly being the most annoying (his vocal part sounds like an American Idol audition.....seriously...it's just miserable). This is possibly Hensley's worst album ever. If it really took him 3 years to come up with this formulaic crapola, then maybe he needs to either pull it back together for his next album, or go get a career playing his organ on TV commercial jingles, or something. For the love of God, please make this album go away, and shame on Esoteric for trying to make people think that this is actually good (Esoteric is usually a great label).
