Earlier Drebin - Hints of things to come,

This review is from: Love and Other Stories (Photo Bks.) (Hardcover)
David Drebin published this punchy book of color photographs in 2007 when he was already on his way to making an impression on the world of fashion and celebrity photography. This year he published THE MORING AFTER, a book already setting records of sale of photographic monographs. But now largely due to his exhibition in the Galerie de Bellefeuille in Montreal, Canada by the same name of this book - LOVE AND OTHER STORIES - there is a resurgence of interest in this collection. As the artist states, 'Is there really any other story but love, the search, the longing, the waiting, the nostalgia, the heartbreak?' What he delivers in this generous collection is a suspension bridge between architecture, citiscapes, glamorous lighting, and very stunning models - all of which we can peruse in a fantasy of our own creation. One of the aspects of Drebin's work is the vastness of his imagery. Not only can he capture panoramas of views from hotel rooms and other buildings, or from cliffs overlooking the ocean, but he also has the capacity for giving the same illusion of space within the confines of a room, space that adds considerable drama and isolation that the lone lover, whether involved in passion or in retrospect. David Drebin makes photographs art that celebrates ordinary life, making it extraordinary- and the public is loving it! Grady Harp, March 11 |
