Book Description

March 15, 2010
This diverse anthology includes work by more than 80 poets, some well known and others relatively unknown, all over the age of 60. These poems speak of love in particular lives and details. Each poet in this collection writes out of her real experience, belonging to this historical time, from a vast array of loving (or nonloving) exchanges and so each reader will find individual patterns, nuances, and voices. The whole contributes to defining and refining that elusive word, love, in our time, caught in language and breathed into the poems.

5.0 out of 5 stars A unique look at love and old age, highly recommended, June 6, 2010
This review is from: Love Over 60: an anthology of women's poems (Perfect Paperback)
The body may age, but it doesn't mean the heart does. "Love over 60: An Anthology of Women's Poems" is a collection of poetry from many women over the age of sixty as they write how their desire for love never truly dies, that it starts at puberty and never goes away. "Love over 60" is a unique look at love and old age, highly recommended. "O, Champion", by Dorothy Ryan: If I'd known/It was going to be//Our last blue-ribbon/Orgasm//I'd have worked harder//Screamed louder, shuddered longer/Skimmed a bit off the top//To preserve as a trophy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Leaving the Brassy, Heading for the Banquet, March 29, 2011
By
P. Biery (Greater Seattle Area) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Love Over 60: an anthology of women's poems (Perfect Paperback)
As a collection, Love Over 60 lends itself to all manner of sensual comparison, from the nuanced formulation of perfume to the spontaneous, rich and sumptuous late-day banquet. This book is not about love as a trite, contained experience but rather as a calling to weave the finery of love into a life well-lived.

The 80 poets represented include some of California's notable voices, like Bay Area's Ellen Bass, Gail Entrekin Rudd and Kathie Isaac-Luke. Leaning toward metaphor and away from brassy proclamation, Love Over Sixty resonates with multi-layered meanings and the direct language of women who have cast away many of life's sly illusions.
