A wonderful document of a great band and an innocent time,

This was a double album, half studio and half live. The Chambers Brothers were still flying on the success of "Time (Has Come Today)" as a hit single when this was recorded, and they were having FUN when they made this-- the harmonies are tight and the enthusiasm is infectious. Worth owning and enjoying again and again-- the 16 minute+ version of the title track, live, is a psychedelic masterpiece that works its way up to a rousing climax. Nice to see this one back in print.

Chambers Brothers at Their Best,

Orignially a two ablum set, half studio and half live. The live portion was recorded live at the Filmore in 1968. LOVE, PEACE & HAPPINESS is a classic. There are no bad tracks on this album. If you like a fusion of funk and soul this is a Must for the collection.

My very first piece of music that I have owned. EVER! My father gave this record to me when I was 4! Damn, I'm getting old! I actually still have the double album, along with the other Chambers Brothers ALBUMS (not cd's. You know, with the jiffy popcorn and the nickle on the needle! STOP PLAYIN'!). My personal favorite song is the title track, Love Peace and Happiness. Nice and long, harmony at the end. And the guitar and bass finishing off. Classic piece of music.

My top choice for Chambers Brothers,

This CD is worth it for the title track alone! The long version of this song goes through a mind trip to the moon and back, what a great anthem for then (and now!) The rest of the album (showing my age?) is also awesome. Buy it and rip it!

Not the very best sound quality, but the best that is available!,

I agree that the sound quality on this recording could be better, but I was saddened to learn that the master tapes were "lost" some time ago, so this mastering was undoubtably taken from a second or third generation source. If anyone can locate the master tapes, PLEASE reissue this on CD again!

I have always had trouble accepting the fact that The Chamber's Brothers were NOT a proto heavy metal band.
Not that you would know from "Time Has Come Today." That 1968 track from Time Has Come, with its heavy guitars, acid pendulum melt and echoing vocals was one of the most inventive songs to come from the era, and a staple on infant FM progressive radio. You may be surprised, if you collect The Chambers Brothers, to find that "Time Has Come Today" is the track that least represents their sound. The fact--and it is good--is that the Chambers were a fantastic soul vocal band, and if you want to get a taste, this double album is a good way to do it. There is one live and one studio album here. "To Love Somebody," "Wake Up," and the title track all demonstrate what a great vocal unit they were, as does the live album--where "Time Has Come Today" is notably absent. As a music writer, I try never to throw a hissy when I think an apple is really an orange. But if you listen here, the guitars still have that jangle sound, and this music could have been recorded, audio wise, in 1965. I wonder what would have happened if Sly Stone or even Jimi Hendrix had produced this wonderful band. That never happened, and even if the Chambers Brothers never did another great loud progressive acid track like "Time Has Come Today," the work they did do is work I can live with for a long long time

The sound on this recording is like hearing the band through a old tape player. Don't waste your money on this CD. It wasn't worth the original list price.... forget $99.00. Wait for a better recording or buy the LP of this great moment in time!
